My Ultimate OP System: Summoning All Dragons, Gods, Heroes & Villains
Chapter 366: A Difficult PositionAt Stark Industries...
A streak of lightning shot through the office before collapsing into Ethan’s figure as he landed neatly on the chair behind his desk.
The chair spun around before gradually coming to a stop as he let out a weary sigh.
Isabella sat across the desk, and looked up from the paperwork she had been reviewing.
She had made it a habit of occupying her husband’s chair whenever she came to work, mostly because Ethan was always at the workshop with Lucy. Besides, she liked how comfortable his seat was.
"Babe, one of these days you’re going to overload the company’s power grid." Isabella said with a helpless sigh.
She was referring to his habit of moving through the building’s electrical currents whenever he used the Aspect of Charge to travel.
Ethan gave a tired chuckle but said nothing.
She immediately noticed the expression on his face and stopped writing. She slipped off her glasses and set them on the table.
Bella wore them mostly because she liked the look, insisting they made her appear more "work-serious."
"What happened?" she asked softly. "You left so suddenly after that call."
Ethan leaned back into the chair. "Ishtar got into a fight."
Bella’s expression immediately changed. "With who?"
"That Hero I told you about the other day..." Ethan replied. "The one dressed in black."
He paused before adding, "And another demon."
Bella’s eyes widened as she asked how exactly that happened.
And like that, Ethan went on to explain everything that had unfolded at Belsorth Academy.
"That doesn’t sound good." She said, now looking more concerned.
"Nope." Ethan shook his head. "It doesn’t."
He let out another sigh. "I should probably go and speak with your father. At the very least, he needs to know what happened before Norman gets to him."
Just then, his phone began vibrating.
Ethan pulled it out, glanced at the screen then laughed a bit. "Speak of the devil."
He turned the phone toward Isabella, showing her that the King was calling.
—
About an hour later...
The doors of the Throne Room slowly opened as Ethan walked in, with Ishtar following behind.
She kept her face turned away, unwilling to look toward the end of the room where the King and the others were gathered.
There was Dark Nova whose expression remained as cold as ever.
Several chains of red lightning extended from his hand, tightly binding Demon Glen.
After Ethan had knocked the demon unconscious, the Hero brought it here. Now, it remained on its knees, every attempt to move only causing the lightning wrapped around its body to tighten further.
King Carson sat upon the throne, while General Iroh and a hooded member of the Verity Order stood on either side of him.
Ethan had specifically been instructed to bring Ishtar along when he came.
The moment Ishtar’s eyes finally settled upon the bound demon, a twisted grin spread across its grotesque face as rows of sharp teeth became visible.
Ishtar slowly clenched into fists as disbelief, anger, and betrayal all surfaced on her facial expression at once.
However, she said or did nothing
Ethan continued forward without sparing Dark Nova so much as a glance.
Likewise, the Hero in Black remained silent.
When Ethan finally arrived before the throne, he gave a respectful nod. "Your Majesty."
Ishtar lowered her head. "Your Majesty."
King Carson’s stern gaze moved between the two of them for a second before he began. "I’ve heard what happened at Belsorth Academy."
Then his eyes settled on Ethan. "Explain exactly what is going on, and why your ward was trying to stop the Hero from capturing this demon."
Ethan let out a sigh. "I understand how everything appears, Your Majesty. But I believe this was a misunderstanding."
He proceeded to recount everything that had taken place inside the academy, explaining that Ishtar had no idea the boy she knew as Glen had already been possessed by a demon.
"It looked as though she was defending a demon." Ethan continued. "But the truth is... she believed she was protecting her friend."
He looked directly at the King. "I also share responsibility for what happened."
"I never informed her beforehand that Norman would be conducting an investigation of this nature, nor that he would be searching for demons within the city."
He shook his head slightly. "So I believe what happened today was the result of a misunderstanding... nothing more."
The King looked between Ethan and Ishtar for a moment after Ethan finished speaking.
Following a brief silence, he asked, "Will she be able to verify everything you’ve just said under the Verity Order’s spell?"
"I believe so," Ethan replied.
The King gave a small nod before motioning toward the hooded figure to his left.
Ethan turned slightly toward Ishtar. In a much gentler tone, he said, "Don’t try to resist it. Just let the spell take effect."
She looked at him for a moment before giving a nod and stepping forward.
The hooded figure extended his hand and a white magic circle immediately spread beneath Ishtar’s feet.
Without delay, the Verity Order mage began asking his questions, carefully confirming whether she had knowingly aided the demon or had any involvement with its actions.
Ishtar answered every question honestly.
Under the influence of the Verity Order’s spell, there was no deception within her words and everything she spoke was the truth.
When the questioning came to an end, the white magic circle faded away.
The Verity Order member stepped back before inclining his head toward the throne.
"Your Majesty," he said. "She has spoken truthfully. Everything she has told us is all that she knows."
Ishtar quietly stepped back to Ethan’s side.
Only then did Dark Nova speak. "I’ll leave the rest to you."
The red lightning chain binding Demon Glen remained firmly wrapped around the possessed body despite Dark Nova releasing his grip on it.
He turned away from the throne.
"There is something fundamentally wrong with this country," he said coldly. "It’s disappointing to see that even those entrusted with its affairs can be bent so easily."
The King’s eyes settled on the Hero’s back, but he remained silent.
Dark Nova took a few more steps before stopping.
Without turning around, he spoke once more. "The next time you, or your ward get in the way again, it will be the last."
With that, he continued walking toward the exit.
Ethan sighed and rolled his eyes.
When the doors of the throne room closed behind the hero, King Carson let out a long sigh before looking toward his son-in-law.
"Ethan..." he said, rubbing his temple. "You’re putting me in a rather difficult position."
A faint smile crossed Ethan’s face. "My apologies, Your Majesty."
