The newcomers were a man and a young woman, Malik and Camila. Both were dressed in light armor, just as Daisy had requested. They stood close together as Daisy explained what they needed to do, neither of them looking particularly confident about the plan.
The three of them eventually joined hands, and Daisy immediately began concentrating. Her Dormant Ability spread through their bodies, slowly stripping away their weight until their feet left the ground.
The three of them rose first, followed by Andrea and Yuri. The sensation was strange for Malik and Camila, their bodies becoming lighter and lighter until they could no longer feel the ground beneath them. Within moments, they were several meters above the battlefield, then several dozen, and soon the entire human army below began shrinking into the distance.
The cold wind became stronger as they climbed, but Daisy maintained her position at the forefront while Andrea and Yuri followed behind her. Malik and Camila remained at the very back of the formation, holding on until Daisy was confident that all of them had been properly affected by her ability.
Soon, they passed through the clouds.
The battlefield disappeared beneath a thick layer of white, leaving only the open sky around them. Daisy finally slowed their ascent before looking back at the others.
"Alright, you can let go now."
One by one, they released each other’s hands.
Daisy remained at the forefront, followed by Andrea and Yuri, while Camila and Malik stayed at the very back. None of them had any idea how long Daisy could maintain the effect on their bodies, so there was little point in wasting time.
Malik looked down and he immediately regretted it.
There was nothing beneath them except clouds, and the battlefield itself was completely hidden somewhere far below.
"Do you think it’s gonna work?" Malik suddenly asked.
Camila turned towards him.
For several seconds, she was completely speechless.
"It took you till we were a thousand feet into the sky before you pointed that out?"
Malik shrugged.
"I didn’t want to seem like the coward of the group."
Camila shook her head.
"Malik, this is the Tower of Mysteries. Everyone is a coward. We’re just pretending because we have no choice."
Malik looked at her for a moment before glancing down again.
"That’s... actually not very reassuring."
Camila ignored him.
Neither of them could see the ground anymore, but they could still feel the faint movement of the air beneath them. The realization that they were relying entirely on Daisy’s ability to remain alive was difficult to ignore.
Still, there was no turning back now.
...
Far below the clouds, the Eidolon Chief stood tall with his back facing the army. He watched calmly as the two human forces advanced across the frozen wasteland.
The humans continued advancing until they reached attacking range. Then their pace changed.
The organized march gradually became a run, and within moments both human formations were charging aggressively towards the Eidolon army.
The Chief remained perfectly calm.
A faint grin appeared across his face.
He turned away from the approaching humans and looked towards the Eidolons standing behind him. His gaze moved across the army for several seconds before eventually stopping on one of them.
The Chief raised his hand and pointed.
"You. Step forward, lowly slave. My grace is upon you."
The selected Eidolon froze.
Its body trembled as it slowly stepped out from the formation. It was clearly terrified, but it didn’t dare disobey the Chief.
The Chief watched it approach with a faint smile.
He needed someone to replace the Divine Priest, the moment the Divine Priest consumed the scale of the Storm Blizzard God, his Dormant Ability, Dominion, had lost its effects.
The Chief had tolerated the Divine Priest’s arrogance because Dominion had made him useful. Without it, the creature was nothing more than another lowly slave that had grown far too proud of itself.
And now the Chief needed another slave to take his place.
The Chief approached the chosen Eidolon and placed one finger against its forehead. The creature froze as a strange pressure spread through its body, and the Chief’s eyes narrowed as he activated Dominion.
A moment later, the Eidolon collapsed onto its knees.
Its breathing became heavier as its eyes widened, its mind suddenly filling with thoughts and awareness it had never possessed before. It stared at the ground for several seconds before lowering its head in complete submission.
"This lowly slave has received a grace far beyond my station. I am ever grateful."
The Chief smirked coldly.
"Just like the waste over there, I have granted you the skill of advanced intelligence. Use it to serve me wisely."
The new Eidolon Priest bowed even lower.
"Yes, Chief."
It immediately got to work.
The newly awakened intelligence allowed it to understand the battlefield in a way the other Eidolons couldn’t. It began barking orders, reorganizing the formations and directing the massive army towards the approaching humans. Groups of Eidolons moved into position while others spread across the battlefield, preparing to receive the two advancing forces.
The Chief watched for a moment before turning his attention towards the Divine Priest.
"I will give you another opportunity to redeem yourself."
The Divine Priest hurriedly stepped forward and fell to the ground in submission.
"I am here to serve."
The Chief clicked his tongue in annoyance.
"Find the Wretched King, and kill him for me."
The Divine Priest’s entire body trembled with joy.
His hatred for Damien had never disappeared. Back when he was still under the previous Priest, Damien had repelled their attacks over and over again. The Wretched King had used methods that made no sense to the Divine Priest, constantly finding ways to survive situations where he should have died.
Worse, he had killed dozens of Eidolons while doing it.
The Divine Priest hated Damien almost as much as he hated the Chief.
But at least Damien was someone he believed he could kill.
He slowly raised his head, his eyes burning with excitement as he finally received permission to pursue the one creature he had wanted to tear apart for so long.
"Yes, Chief."
The Divine Priest immediately turned towards the battlefield.
This time, he wouldn’t make the mistake of underestimating the Wretched King.
