Rei took a look at Karn.

’No wonder he told us to watch the woods. He already knew they were there.’ Rei realized.

----------

Zhao Long was watching the caravan carefully with his trusted aides in the forest. Zhao Long’s Tier One cultivation was proof of his talent. It had earned him a place as the White Dragon Lord’s personal disciple before the age of twenty-five.

His trusted aides were beside him keeping tabs on the activities on the carriage.

"The White Dragon Lord only asked for the ear with the birthmark, correct?" The first aide looked towards Zhao Long as his tongue licked his lips before looking at the carriage.

"I’m not a big fan of doing assassination work but master told me to do it personally." Zhao Long sighed instead of replying. He was more of a direct person who fought with honor not in the shadows.

They had received intelligence that the Fourth Young Master would be leaving the sect grounds, along with his planned route.

They were waiting for the young master to leave the village before they made their move.

They were surprised to see an old man invited into the luxurious carriage prepared for the Fourth Young Master.

"That old man finally came out." The second aide said as he watched the carriage door open.

Zhao Long came up to the front and looked at the carriage and the old man who had come out.

"Looks like the old man is talking to his grandkids." Zhao Long scoffed.

A chill suddenly crawled up Zhao Long’s spine.

Years of fighting on the brink of death had honed an instinct he trusted more than his eyes.

His gaze sharpened and the old man who had been speaking to what looked like his grandchildren slowly turned his head.

The old man’s eyes remained closed but Zhao Long knew.

That old man was looking directly at him.

Zhao Long’s body moved before his mind could react, retreating several steps.

"We must leave! That old man already noticed us!" Zhao Long shouted.

"Haha stop joking around. You’re overreacting. He’s just a blind old—" The aide turned toward the carriage.

The old man was gone.

"C-Caption where did he go?" The second aide asked Zhao Long.

"Shit! We need to kill the young master right now." The old man had definitely somehow seen them. Zhao Long ordered the group to attack immediately.

But before the group could move their feet a voice rang out behind them.

"Koko, leaving this old man already? I just arrived to welcome our guests."

Karn stood on a tree branch with his hands behind his back. His smile was like a grandfather watching children argue over something miniscule.

Zhao Long frowned.

’What is this feeling...?’ Every instinct in his body screamed that the old man before him was someone who should not be offended.

One assassin instinctively took half a step back. Another lowered his weapon without realizing it.

’...Did they become more cautious because I’m old?’ Karn thought.

Passive Effect Detected.

Charm (30)

Your presence naturally influences the emotions of those around you.

Lower-minded individuals become hesitant.

Allies are more inclined to trust you.

Words spoken by you carry greater weight.

’...So that’s what Charm does. Quite useful.’ Karn realized.

Silence remained until it was broken by Karn.

"You youngsters truly have no manners. If you’re going to kill someone you should at least make sure you don’t get caught in the act." Karn said in a playful manner. It was not as if they had a chance to hide from him anyways.

"Senior, this matter concerns only the Dragon Meteor Sect!" Zhao Long gave a fist-and-palm salute in response.

"Koko. You came to murder my friend. That sounds like my quarrel." Karn Laughed in reply.

Zhao Long’s eyes narrowed.

’So the Fourth Young Master has been hiding such a trump card...’ He thought.

"I’ll give you one chance. Leave and return to your master. Tell him he should come himself if he wants to kill the young master." Karn spoke curtly.

One of Zhao Long’s aides scoffed in arrogance.

"You dare!? I’ll kill you right now old bastard!" The first aide said as he rushed towards Karn.

The aide’s nails became longer and sharper until each finger became as lethal as the sharpest knife created by a blacksmith.

The aide used his full strength from the get-go. His body shot out with immense speed.

As the aide’s body neared Karn, the aide sliced at the old man’s throat.

’Old fool.’ The aide thought in a mocking smile.

As the nails scraped against Karn’s neck...

Clang

The sound of steel striking stone echoed through the forest.

The assassin stared. His claws had failed to break the old man’s skin. A flash of silver moved much faster than himself and his vision spun.

Only then did he realize his head was no longer attached to his body.

"Koko... that’s one."

"A Tier Two Warrior. Better than those bandits, at least." Karn glanced at the severed head.

Then he looked towards the second Aide of Zhao Long.

Karn’s figure dissolved into a drifting mist.

The second aide realizing the danger he was in used his martial art. A pair of wings made out of fire blazed from behind his back.

The second aide quickly took flight to get away from the old monster after him.

He looked over at his allies and the third aide laid there beheaded. Karn stood in front of his body while looking towards second aide.

He had assumed Karn was pursuing him but by the time he realized otherwise, his fellow assassin was already dead. Karn’s body disappeared in a mist once again.

The second aide looked everywhere trying to determine where the old man was. He couldn’t find even a trace of the old man. His mind raced trying to find the old man before deciding to flap his fire wings as quickly as possible.

The waves of distorted heat swept through the forest, just then a human silhouette appeared within the distortion.

Karn stood only three paces behind him.
