A smile bloomed on Karn’s face. He did not know if it was possible to teach a skill to one of his disciples but he considered it to be possible. The skill ’God’s Eye’ was an upgraded skill from the original ’Night’s Eyes’. The original skill only heightened his senses to a point that his brain could construct a mental image without the need of his eyes.
Karn had hypothesized that such a skill could be replicated without the need of a system if a person’s senses were heightened to the same point. The image created with such heightened senses was called the transparent world by Karn. Many cultivators who had done the same or achieved similar results must have different names for such an ability.
He had heard many blind people in his previous life could also build spatial maps just like him using their senses and the skill had provided such an experience.
His experiment was a success, he had induced such a skill in his disciple without the system.
Shin on the other hand was in complete ecstasy. He stared into the darkness beneath his blindfold while his heart pounded.
’I did it..!!! I dodged master’s pebble!’ He could not see the pebble but he knew where it was.
As Shin punched his fist out in excitement another pebble flew into Shin’s stomach.
"Ouch!" Shin yelped in pain.
"Koko, you just got lucky. Let’s see if you can dodge this." Karn smirked as he threw another pebble towards his disciple with increasing speed.
Rei had seen her little brother dodge Karn’s pebble and became anxious.
’Why am I the only one who doesn’t get it...’ Rei thought to herself.
She had done everything she could to try to steal a single pebble from Karn. She had even pretended to be exhausted several times, hoping Karn would lower his guard. Yet every time she made her move, his body reacted before she could reach him. Rei knew it was not a matter of speed. It felt like she had been read before she even made the move. It felt like every time Karn had dodged out of complete instinct.
She was proud of her thievery skills, in fact no one other than her master had ever been able to detect them. But now, she felt like her skills were just subpar in front of Karn.
Rei’s grip tightened around the wooden sword and she stepped forward.
In response Karn shifted his body causing Rei to change her angle of attack.
Karn moved again in response as the wooden sword came towards him.
Rei, seeing this, dropped her sword halfway through the attack and reached for the pebble pouch at his waist. Karn’s hand caught her wrist before her fingers could even touch it.
"Again." Karn smiled and spoke.
Rei gritted her teeth and attacked.
Karn dodged her attacks non-stop but not once did he retaliate. Not once did he even appear to be taking her seriously and yet every movement she made was stopped before it could reach its conclusion.
"How?" Finally, Rei stepped back, breathing heavily.
"How what?" Karn tilted his head.
"How do you know?" Rei pointed her wooden sword toward him.
"Every time I try something different, you already know what I’m going to do." In response Karn smiled.
"Because you have been trying to deceive me." Karn said with a slight smile.
"That’s what a thief does!" Rei replied. How else was she supposed to complete her training?
"No. Good thieves don’t deceive their targets." Rei’s eyes widened slightly.
"They deceive their targets into deceiving themselves..." Karn tossed a pebble into the air and caught it.
"...You keep thinking about what I should see. Instead, make me see what you want me to see." Karn opened the palm that had caught the pebble. There was nothing in his hand. Karn then opened his other hand and a pebble appeared.
"How—!!" Rei said in surprise.
"You have to deceive my expectations, not my sight." Karn said with a smile.
Rei thought about Karn’s words for a moment before her eyes resolved themselves. Rei charged once again towards Karn. Instead of her focus being on his waist where the pouch of pebbles were hidden she instead stared at the hand that held the pebble.
Karn smiled at the change of focus.
Rei’s wooden sword made its way towards Karn’s wrist that held the pebble.
In response Karn moved his arm back. At that instant the wooden sword suddenly dropped out of Rei’s hand. She twisted her body in an almost unnatural manner, surprising Karn. Rei’s hand approached the pouch of pebbles at Karn’s waist.
Karn responded by grabbing her wrist. Just like he had done many times before. Except this time, the wrist dissolved into mist.
"Koko.." Karn laughed.
The wooden sword that had been falling was caught in the time his focus had diverted. Rei’s true body moved at lightspeed, attacking Karn’s wrist.
The hand opened for just long enough that Rei’s slippery hand snatched the pebble out of Karn’s hand.
The pebble had been snatched. At this, a satisfied smile appeared on Karn’s face. Both of his disciples had exceeded his expectations.
"I... actually did it." Rei stared at the pebble between her fingers before a wide smile spread across her face.
"Koko... both of you have done a great job." Karn spoke to both of his disciples as he ruffled Rei’s head.
"You did it, Rei!" Shin excitedly spoke for Rei.
Just as the both of them had completed their training tasks, a disciple of the Dragon Meteor had come running over on a horse to the entrance of the courtyard where the guards stood.
"Is Honorable Elder Karn present? The Martial Hall has requested his presence tomorrow. Several elders will be overseeing the monthly disciples’ martial exchange, and Elder Mo has requested that he preside over the proceedings as an elder for the Fourth Young Master’s faction." The disciple told the guards.
At this moment Karn suddenly had his Master’s appraisal skill activated.
