Melissa and Qasim entered the shop again and placed a piece of paper.
"This is a request from our VIP here~"
Doran looked down at the request form.
His expression didn’t change.
He simply placed it back on the counter.
"Denied."
Qasim blinked.
"...Already?"
"This shop sells relics and artifacts."
"It does not sell lessons."
"Oh..."
Qasim lowered his head in disappointment thinking that the plan has field.
But Melissa, however, simply smiled since it was all still a part of her plan.
"I see."
"Well it’s getting late so I need to go home... Good by uncle Doran."
"Yes lady Melissa, have a safe trip back home."
Melissa drags Qasim out the shop and tell him to meet her again tomorrow here.
---
The next morning...
Doran had just finished arranging a shelf when someone entered the shop.
He immediately stood straight.
"Welcome back, Madam."
A graceful woman in her late thirties walked inside.
She shared Melissa’s blue eyes, though her expression carried the elegance expected from the owner of one of the kingdom’s most famous relic shops.
"Good morning, Doran."
She smiled gently before looking through today’s papers.
"Hm?"
"What’s this?"
She picked up a request form.
**Requested Service: Training Lessons.**
"...Interesting."
"My daughter insisted on me to come and see something interesting."
Doran cleared his throat.
"I already rejected that request."
"Why?"
"Because that isn’t a service we provide."
The woman nodded thoughtfully.
"A reasonable answer."
Doran secretly relaxed.
"But..."
She looked at the golden VIP seal stamped at the bottom of the paper.
"This customer is VIP."
"..."
Doran suddenly had a very bad feeling.
She closed the paper.
"As you know..."
"Our VIP customers receive special treatment."
She smiled warmly.
"The customer is always right."
She paused.
"And VIP customers..."
Doran lowered his head and completed the sentence.
"...are extra right."
Melissa, who had been hiding behind a shelf, proudly gave Qasim a thumbs-up.
Qasim slowly returned one, still not understanding what was happening.
Doran looked at the ceiling.
"I’ve lost."
---
"Great!"
Melissa clapped happily.
"Since Uncle Doran won’t finish work until evening..."
She grabbed Qasim’s wrist.
"I’ll show you around!"
Before he could even answer...
She dragged him outside.
---
For the next several hours...
The two children wandered through the noble district.
Melissa knew almost every street.
"This bakery makes the best cookies!"
"This old man always feeds the pigeons!"
"Oh! Look!"
"There are musicians today!"
Qasim simply followed behind, looking around with sparkling eyes.
Everything felt...
Normal.
Children running around.
Families shopping together.
Street performers.
Laughter.
It almost didn’t feel like the same world filled with monsters and secret organizations.
Melissa suddenly bought two small pastries.
She handed one to him.
"For you."
Qasim stared at it.
"...How much was this?"
"Three copper coins."
"Never mind...I don’t want to know."
Melissa burst into laughter.
"You always ask about the price first!"
"Of course!"
"What if it’s expensive?"
"So what?"
"What if I can’t pay you back?"
She tilted her head.
"...Who said you had to?"
Qasim stayed quiet.
He had never really thought about someone buying him something just because they wanted to.
The only person who had ever give Qasim without expecting something in return was his dad.
---
A little later...
The two sat on a fountain while eating.
Melissa suddenly asked,
"So..."
"What did you usually do with your friends?"
Qasim froze.
"..."
Friends?
He thought for a long moment.
Then...
"I... didn’t have friends."
Melissa blinked.
"..."
She didn’t ask why.
"You know, Qasim... Can I be honest with you?"
"I don’t really see my friends as... my friends. Does that make any sense?"
"It’s like I don’t think the way they do, and I don’t act the way they do."
"My mom built her own wealth from nothing. She fought and worked really hard... especially after my father died when I was five."
"And all my other friends’ families are like that too. They fought for their place in this world."
"But us?"
"We were just born into it."
"We took the easy path."
"My other friends don’t seem bothered by that. They don’t even think about it."
"But me?"
"I can’t stop wondering what my value would be if I hadn’t been raised in a wealthy family."
"That’s why I tend to see people as investments."
"If someone is worthy... I invest in them."
She looked at Qasim.
"And that’s exactly what I’ve been doing with you."
"I’ve been investing in you."
She smiled.
"But that doesn’t mean we can’t be friends."
She hopped down from the fountain.
"I am Melissa Fauger, daughter of Rahil Fauger."
"I want you to become my most valuable investment."
"So you’ll have to work hard and become someone truly great."
She paused for a moment before extending her hand toward him.
"But before that happens..."
"I want you to be my first real friend."
She said it so naturally that it almost sounded obvious.
Qasim remained seated for a few seconds, simply looking at her.
"...Friends..."
A small smile slowly appeared on his face before he reached out and took her hand.
---
Evening finally arrived.
The two returned to the relic shop.
Doran had just finished closing the last display cabinet.
The moment he saw Qasim...
"..."
He turned around.
Qasim followed.
He walked toward the changing room.
Qasim followed.
He walked toward the bathroom.
Qasim followed.
Doran finally stopped walking.
Without even turning around, he spoke.
"If I train you..."
"You’ll leave me alone."
Qasim answered without a second of hesitation.
"Deal!"
Doran slowly walked away, muttering to himself.
"...What an annoying brat."
