Doran let out a quiet sigh before leaning against the wall.

"Alright. Since you won’t stop bothering me until I teach you, listen carefully."

Qasim immediately sat up straight.

"Nahr’keth was discovered by the vampire race during the Fourth Century."

"Vampires are... prideful."

"’Prideful’ is putting it nicely," Doran corrected himself. "Most of them genuinely believe every other race exists beneath them."

"When humans created Alchemy and later Magic, the vampires couldn’t accept the idea that another race had surpassed them."

"So they began searching for a power of their own."

"For decades they searched."

"And eventually, they found something."

Doran paused.

"There are ancient runes hidden beneath reality itself."

"They’re woven into the world."

"Rain falls because a rune allows it."

"Light shines because a rune exists for it."

"Life, death, decay, darkness, sickness."

"And much more."

"Every one of those concepts is governed by ancient runes."

Qasim listened without blinking.

"The original runes are impossible for ordinary people to reach. Their locations are one of the vampires’ greatest secrets."

"But..."

"The vampires managed to uncover fragments of the language those runes were written in."

"They discovered that certain words... carry power."

"When spoken correctly...Reality listens."

Qasim felt goosebumps run across his arms.

"So that’s what Nahr’keth is..."

Doran nodded.

"We whisper those words."

"We borrow a tiny fraction of the world’s authority."

"But unlike Magic or Alchemy..."

"You cannot use Nahr’keth before becoming Mahik."

"Why?"

"Because every Nahr’keth user must establish a connection with their Egoistical Layer."

Qasim slowly nodded.

"So after awakening... anyone can learn it?"

"No."

Doran shook his head.

"There are prices to pay."

"The whispers place tremendous pressure on both the body and the mind."

"And every time you use them..."

"...They consume a little of your life."

Qasim’s expression stiffened.

"They shorten your lifespan?"

"Exactly."

"That isn’t much of a problem for vampires."

"They naturally live for thousands of years."

"We humans don’t."

Silence settled between them.

Doran crossed his arms.

"Now that you know this, do you still want to learn it?"

Qasim answered almost instantly.

"If it isn’t impossible, then yes."

"...Good."

"The first step is finding your True Name."

"My... True Name?"

"It isn’t the name your parents gave you."

"It’s the name your Egoistical Layer recognizes."

"It is your existence."

"It’s the name the world uses to refer to you."

"The foundation of every Nahr’keth user."

Doran pointed toward the floor.

"Sit."

Qasim obeyed.

"Close your eyes."

"Think about your past."

"Think about who you are."

"And who you’ll become."

Qasim slowly focused.

Earth.

His father.

The endless smell of medicine.

The nights staring through the window.

His death.

...

Minutes passed.

Nothing.

Not even the slightest feeling.

"...Why?"

A thought quietly crossed his mind.

*...Is it because this body isn’t originally mine?*

Doran noticed the frustration on his face.

"Can’t find it?"

Qasim opened one eye before shaking his head.

"There is another way."

Doran pointed toward the black cracks covering the back of Qasim’s hand.

"That tattoo."

"It was born from your Egoistical Layer."

"It is an extension of it."

"Focus on it."

"Keep staring, and sooner or later..."

"You’ll reach your true name."

Qasim lowered his gaze toward the cracked tattoo.

He focused.

And focused.

...

Suddenly...

The world disappeared.

Endless darkness.

"So... this is my consciousness I guess?"

He looked around.

Nothing.

No walls.

No sky.

No ground.

Only blackness stretching forever.

Then he wanted to see his body shape, but before he could do it, he heard a faint scream.

Qasim froze.

Another.

Then another.

Soon dozens echoed through the darkness.

Hundreds.

Thousands.

Each one filled with pain.

Agony.

Despair.

Then...

Silence.

Complete silence.

Qasim slowly exhaled.

"...It’s over?"

A scream suddenly exploded directly behind him.

His entire body froze.

Cold.

His instincts screamed.

**Don’t turn around.**

No matter what...

**Don’t look back.**

His heart pounded violently.

The screams multiplied again.

Closer.

Closer.

Something brushed against his shoulder.

Another touched the back of his neck.

He ran.

He didn’t know where.

He simply ran.

But no matter how fast he moved...

The screams remained right behind him.

"What is happening?!"

"This..."

"...This is just like that emotional test!"

His breathing became frantic.

Then...

Among all the screaming...

Something whispered.

He couldn’t understand why...

But that single word engraved itself into his mind.

Suddenly—

His vision shattered.

...

Qasim collapsed onto the wooden floor of the base.

He gasped for air, his clothes completely soaked with sweat.

Doran knelt beside him, one hand still resting on the boy’s shoulder.

"For God’s sake, kid!"

"What happened in there?"

"I had to forcefully break your connection!"

Qasim stared blankly at the ceiling.

Then—

An unbearable pain exploded inside his head.

"Ghh...!"

Fragments flashed before his eyes.

Children dressed in white.

Running.

Laughing.

Playing.

Their faces...

Blurry.

Their voices...

Unclear.

The visions disappeared as quickly as they came.

The pain slowly faded.

Doran frowned.

"...You alright?"

Qasim slowly nodded.

Then his eyes widened.

"I know it."

"What?"

"My True Name."

"It’s..."

Doran’s expression immediately turned serious.

"Don’t!"

"Never say your true name to anyone."

Qasim blinked.

"If anyone knows about your true name they can use it against you.... Even when you are alone you must NOT speak it out loud."

"Why?"

"The same reason we always whisper our phrases... Because you don’t know who or what might be listening."

Qasim instinctively looked around the room.

Doran scratched the back of his head.

"At least..."

"That’s what the man who taught me Nahr’keth always said."

"I don’t know if it’s true."

"But I’m not stupid enough to test it."

Qasim silently nodded.

"Good."

"That’s enough for today."

Qasim looked up.

"What?"

"No, I can still continue."

"No, we’ll continue tomorrow."

"...Why?"

A small grin appeared on Doran’s face.

"Because tomorrow you’ll start learning a new language."

Qasim blinked.

"...Language?"

Doran nodded.

"Nahr’keth isn’t just the name of the power system."

"It’s the name of the language we whisper."
