Only I Can Use Every Power System

Chapter 42: Cha.42 A Much Needed Break

The three kids sat inside a small coffee shop.

Qasim had already told Melissa what happened.

Not everything, of course he left out Black Seed, his abilities, or who causes the attack.

But he told her about the monsters, the deaths, and how they barely escaped the academy alive.

Melissa listened in silence and when Qasim finally finished, she stayed quiet for a few seconds.

"You’ve been through a lot..."

Her eyes moved toward Kevin.

"Both of you have."

Kevin lowered his head slightly.

Then Melissa suddenly smiled.

"Well... What about taking a break?"

"We can go rest at the park, go eat or..."

"Maybe we go play?"

Qasim and Kevin looked at each other.

Then back at her.

"I don’t think it’s the right ti—"

"That actually a good idea Qasim, we should accept..."

Qasim felt it’s wrong to play after the funeral but he accepted anyway.

Kevin always knew what’s best for them after all.

---

A few minutes later, the three were standing in a large area filled with children.

Some were playing hide-and-seek.

Others were playing tag.

A group of boys were pretending to be heroes fighting an evil monster, swinging wooden sticks at each other while screaming.

Qasim stared at them.

Something warm passed through his heart.

This scene...

It felt familiar.

He didn’t know why.

He had spent most of his previous life sick and never really got to do things like this.

Maybe it was just an illusion.

He had read somewhere that when someone wanted to experience something so much, their mind could create a strange feeling of familiarity or ’Deja Vue’.

"Well, boys?"

Melissa’s voice pulled him back.

"What do you want to play?"

Qasim quickly hid his feelings.

"I’m too old for this. We’re basically playing like little kids."

"Hmm? Really?"

Melissa tilted her head.

"How old are you?"

Qasim opened his mouth.

Then remembered something.

This body looked young, ten or maybe eleven at most.

He quickly adjusted his answer and said his mental age.

"Thirteen."

"I’m fourteen," Kevin said.

Melissa smiled.

"Oh, so I’m the youngest then! I’m twelve."

Before Qasim could say anything, several children ran toward Melissa.

"Melissa! Come here! Come play with us again!"

Qasim looked at them.

They weren’t dressed like nobles.

Their clothes were ordinary, and they looked nothing like the rich children he had seen around Melissa’s family.

"Yup! And today I brought two guests with me!"

Kevin placed a hand on Qasim’s shoulder and smiled.

"Come on. We won’t stay kids forever, right? Let’s enjoy a little silliness."

Qasim looked at him for a moment.

Then smiled.

"Fine."

---

Hours passed.

They played.

They ran.

They laughed.

For the first time in a long while, Qasim wasn’t thinking about power system, monsters, missions, or death.

When the sun began to set, the children said their goodbyes and left.

The three remained sitting together for a while.

"Oh, by the way," Melissa said, looking at Kevin. "You said you don’t have a home anymore since the academy was destroyed. Where do you live now?"

"Oh, I live with him."

He pointed at Qasim.

"Really?"

Melissa looked at Qasim.

"I thought you had a hard time making new friends."

She was obviously teasing him, but Qasim took it seriously.

His eyes widened.

"Wait... we’re friends?"

Kevin looked surprised for a second.

"For me? We’ve been friends since you helped me that first time."

He paused.

"I guess it was the same for Zerni too."

Qasim became quiet.

His mind returned to that moment.

*It was an honor, friends.*

A small smile appeared on his face.

"Yeah... I guess so."

Melissa suddenly stood up and pointed at Kevin.

"You’re so lucky! You just went through a death experience to become his friend, nothing too crazy. Meanwhile, I basically had to take this boy on a date just to become his friend!"

Qasim burst out laughing.

"Wait! Don’t say it like that! That’s not what happened!"

"Oh, it’s so true! It was our first date, and you even let me pay. Tsk tsk... not very gentlemanly of you."

Qasim laughed even harder.

Kevin soon joined him.

Melissa watched the two of them laughing before she started laughing as well.

It was a beautiful day.

---

Another month passed in the blink of an eye.

There were no major missions for Team Four.

Valen, however, kept Qasim updated about the academy incident and the Savoir case, which was the reason Qasim had gone to the academy in the first place.

The good news was that the king himself would meet Qasim once he was free.

And apparently, that would be soon.

During that month, Qasim truly lived like a kid.

He woke up late.

Ate breakfast with Kevin.

And watched as the strange members of Team Four slowly accepted the new boy.

At first, Kevin had been confused by the huge man who constantly stared at him with an annoyed expression, as if he wanted to kick him.

Then there was the strange woman with long hair who was so shy she could barely speak properly.

And the young girl who wasn’t much older than him but always looked cold and distant.

And then there was Valen.

The same man who had looked like a brilliant hero during the academy incident was now mostly lazy, making stupid jokes and barely acting like a boss.

Kevin didn’t understand these people.

Even their company looked wierd, TaskJam.

But he loved this place.

And as the days passed, it started feeling more and more like home.

His relationship with Qasim and Melissa also grew closer.

The three met almost every day.

They played together.

Explored the city.

Visited neighboring cities.

They even visited Melissa’s house, which looked exactly like what Qasim expected from a noble girl.

It was a peaceful month.

A much-needed break.

Then, after another week, Valen finally delivered the news.

"The king will meet you in three days."

Qasim felt nervous at first.

But that nervousness quickly turned into excitement.

*This is it.*

*Just like those novels where the main character meets the king and gets all the good stuff.*

Around the same time, the public was finally informed about the academy’s future.

The academy was officially closed.

No one was willing to take the position of principal, and many families refused to send their children back after what had happened.

Qasim was honestly surprised.

The public discussion about the academy itself was far smaller than he expected.

Instead, most of the attention was focused on what would happen next.

It felt almost deliberate.

As if someone was trying to make the disaster look smaller than it really was.

Qasim found that infuriating.

But it also taught him something.

Power truly ruled this world.

...

Three days passed.

And finally, the day came.

Qasim stood beside Valen, preparing to meet the king.

"There will be some powerful people there," Valen said.

"Some may be friendly."

"Some may not."

Valen smiled.

"So you need to be ready, my precious boy."

Qasim swallowed.

This meeting was going to be important.
