Only I Can Use Every Power System

Chapter 8: Cha.8 First Mission (2)

"First, please come inside so we can talk."

The team walked through the village. The people seemed scared and distant.

After a few minutes, they arrived at the mayor’s house, where he invited them inside.

"It all started when some of our hunters found the dead corpse of a goblin, which was already strange since our village is far from any goblin territory."

"But it only got more bizarre when the corpse started moving even after death and bit one of the hunters on the hand..."

The mayor paused for a second before continuing with a frightened expression.

"And since that day, the poor hunter slowly started rotting from the inside out and eventually died."

"But then..."

"He turned into a living, mindless corpse and infected more hunters."

"And not just them. Normal people got infected too."

"Animals were infected."

"Even normal monsters became infected."

"Right now, we’re certain there are over fifty-nine infected."

"Ten hunters."

"Thirty-four farm animals."

"Five villagers."

"And ten forest beasts hiding in the woods."

"Please... help us."

Qasim felt both saddened and intrigued by what was happening.

It reminded him of a popular concept back on Earth called a zombie apocalypse.

Of course, this situation was nowhere near an apocalypse yet.

But if these monsters were truly like zombies...

Then this mission was a far bigger deal than he had first imagined.

They couldn’t afford to fail.

That thought only made him more nervous.

...

After the team left the mayor’s house, Valen gathered everyone and started assigning roles.

"Doran, you’ll go with Yasmin and search for the monsters. But you’re not allowed to fight them yet."

"As for Levia and Qasim, investigate the edge of the forest and search for anything unusual."

"Our main objective isn’t simply killing the monsters."

"It’s to determine the source of the infection..."

"And destroy it."

"As for me..."

"I’ll be investigating the village."

"So if any of you find something..."

"You know where to find me~"

...

Watching Qasim and Levia wander through the forest, it quickly became clear that finding anything related to the monsters wouldn’t be easy.

But eventually, Levia found something.

"Teacher, what did you find?"

Qasim walked over beside her.

Levia was holding a strange-looking flower.

It was tall, with a bright yellow blossom, while its stem and leaves were completely black.

"This is a unique flower known for both its beauty and its highly deadly pollen."

"One sniff, and you’ll spend the next three days fighting for your life in bed."

"It doesn’t have a high death rate since the antidote is usually affordable."

"But the problem is..."

She looked at Qasim while still holding the flower.

"It shouldn’t be here."

"It normally doesn’t grow under these conditions."

"So why is it here...?"

"Unless it has something to do with our case."

"What do you think, Qasim?"

The question honestly stunned him for a second.

She actually valued his opinion.

That made him just a little happy.

"Well..."

"As far as I can see, there are quite a few more growing along the path."

"So I think we should follow them."

"Yes."

"I was thinking the same thing."

"Let’s go."

Qasim and Levia followed the trail of flowers until they eventually reached a small pink lake.

Qasim asked Levia if she knew why the water was that color.

She simply shook her head.

They decided to test it by throwing a rock into the lake.

Nothing happened.

Then they tossed one of the flowers into the water.

Immediately...

The lake reacted.

Bubbles appeared as though the water were boiling.

Strange smoke slowly rose from the surface.

"Any theories, teacher?"

"Not yet..."

"I’ll need to test it on a living creature."

Suddenly...

A cold chill ran down Qasim’s spine.

The next moment, a knife came flying toward him.

He barely dodged, receiving only a small wound on his arm.

His eyes widened as he searched for whoever had attacked him.

Levia immediately noticed Qasim being targeted.

She tightened her grip on her staff and ordered him,

"Back to back."

The two stood together, waiting for the next attack.

It didn’t take long.

Another knife shot toward Levia.

She quickly created a water bubble around them, stopping the blade.

But the very next second...

A rain of knives came flying from every direction.

The relentless assault pressured Levia until the bubble finally shattered.

Immediately afterward, a hooded figure appeared beside her, ready to strike.

Fortunately...

Qasim instinctively cast Fire Torch.

The sudden flames made the attacker retreat, mistaking it for a Fireball spell.

The moment the hooded figure realized Qasim was merely a beginner, they stopped holding back.

They leaped forward again, attempting to trick Levia with another feint.

Qasim saw Levia switch to another Mana Engine.

She traced a square through the air.

An earth pillar erupted from beneath the attacker, launching them into the air before smashing them back onto the ground.

The hooded figure collapsed onto one knee.

Levia prepared another spell to finish the fight.

Then...

She suddenly felt something strange.

Looking down at her leg, she discovered a tiny cut.

The knife that had caused it rested on the ground nearby.

"When did..."

She immediately realized what had happened.

The attacker had willingly taken her spell just to guarantee she would be poisoned.

Moments later, her body grew heavy.

Her vision blurred.

The knife had been coated with poison.

"Levia! What’s wrong?!"

Qasim rushed to catch her before she fell.

But another knife struck him as well.

He looked toward the attacker...

Then back at the paralyzed Levia.

He clenched his teeth in pain before collapsing beside her.

The hooded figure slowly approached them.

A deep masculine voice echoed from beneath the hood.

"The woman was troublesome."

"Thankfully..."

"She lowered her guard."

"But what’s truly interesting..."

"...is the boy."

The hooded man stared at Qasim.

"He doesn’t seem strong enough to handle two full doses of the poison."

"Is his body naturally resistant?"

"Whatever I’ll find out once I take him back to the lab."

He then turned toward Levia.

"But first...I need to make sure this woman dies."

The hooded man slowly raised his knife. Ready to strike.
