On the way back home, Valen was staring out the window, his eyes slowly following a bird flying through the sky. He wasn’t zoning out, not by any means.
*Just a little bit more...*
He was lost in thought when he suddenly felt something touching his hand.
He turned around and saw Qasim looking at him.
"I was talking to you. Please, Valen, answer me..."
Valen stayed quiet for a second before simply replying,
"Sorry, I was zoning out."
Qasim narrowed his eyes before speaking again.
"I asked you about the Royal Library."
"Right... The Royal Library is where everything that has happened in the kingdom is registered. But don’t compare it to an archive. No, it’s literally a library. That means if you have the right to enter, you have the right to borrow any document, no matter how sensitive or secret it is."
Qasim raised an eyebrow.
"And why is that so important?"
"Well, each document has only one copy, so technically, you can change its contents and no one can tell the difference."
"The king himself doesn’t remember what’s inside every document, and he has prohibited anyone from seeing or memorizing them either."
Qasim’s face went pale as he finally understood why Team One and Team Three had reacted that way during the meeting.
He then asked quietly,
"Doesn’t that mean you can show something false to the public, and no one can deny it?"
Valen narrowed his eyes and answered in a serious, cold tone.
"Exactly. And it gets even worse. You can start a civil war with the right document and the right lie."
Qasim stayed quiet for a moment before asking,
"Valen... What are you going to do with it?"
Valen didn’t answer. He simply winked at the boy before looking back out the window.
Qasim stared at him for a few seconds before sighing and turning toward the window as well.
But in that moment, he noticed someone covering their face and running down the street while a child cried for help.
*Kidnapper? In the middle of the day while I’m around?*
Qasim looked at Valen, but before he could say anything, the blond man cut him off.
"No. We’re heading home. I need to teach you a lot of things today since tomorrow is going to be a busy day for me."
Qasim’s eyes widened.
He looked back at the kidnapper and saw him enter a dark street with the child.
Qasim looked back at Valen and narrowed his eyes.
Then he pulled out a gold coin and threw it at the driver.
"Stop here!"
The driver’s eyes widened when he saw the gold coin. Tears of joy began forming in his eyes as he immediately stopped the carriage.
Qasim gave Valen one final disappointed look before rushing out to help.
Valen simply sat there for a second before wiping his face with a shaking hand.
He looked at his hand for another moment before following the boy.
Qasim, with his insane speed, caught up with the kidnappers just as they entered a building.
He looked behind him and saw Valen following, so he gave him a warm smile before focusing on the building again.
He kicked the door open.
Inside, he saw around thirty children sitting on the ground, making a white powder.
Their faces were pale, dark circles surrounded their small eyes, and their hands were red from leftover blood. They were all shaking.
Qasim saw the scene and became furious.
He looked around and spotted a man staring at him.
The man’s eyes widened when he realized Qasim was looking at him.
He immediately turned around and started running.
"Run! Run! Run!"
Qasim jumped from his position and landed on top of the man, pinning him to the ground.
*Just a normal human...*
He quickly searched for the others and soon found two more men covering their faces and running away.
He rushed toward one of them and knocked him out with a single kick before turning to face the other.
"D-Destroy the whole thing!"
The man shouted while pulling out a knife, but Qasim knocked him down with a punch before looking ahead.
There was another man near an exit, holding a lever down.
Qasim suddenly sensed the building shaking.
Then, in the next moment, part of the ceiling began collapsing.
Qasim looked up and created a wind barrier to protect the children.
But then he noticed several children hiding in the far corner of the building.
His eyes widened when he saw a huge chunk of the ceiling falling directly toward them.
"No!"
Qasim screamed as he tried to expand the barrier.
But it was too late.
The rubble crashed down.
Luckily, in the final moment, Qasim saw Valen rushing toward the children.
He decided to focus on the kidnapper again.
He created a fireball and burned the man without killing him before increasing the power of his barrier to cover the entire building.
Qasim then rushed toward Valen, hoping he had managed to save those children.
To his relief, the children began crawling out from beneath the rubble, unharmed, while Valen stood there holding the debris.
...
After a couple of minutes, the police arrived and took care of the kidnappers and the children while thanking Valen and Qasim for their help.
"Thank you so much, Sir Valen. We’ve been preparing to raid this place and rescue the children, but seeing that these guys had such a crazy escape plan, I’m so glad that you two helped us!"
The police officer bowed respectfully, while Valen simply waved his hand.
"Yeah, yeah, no problem. Thanks to my colleague there for his wonderful sense of justice."
"Well, I had the best lead—"
Qasim was about to tap Valen on the shoulder while praising him, but then he felt something was wrong.
Valen’s shoulder was freezing.
More importantly, it was injured.
Yet there was no blood coming from it.
Instead, some strange, foul-smelling flesh was exposed.
"Yeah, Valen, this..."
Qasim was about to ask him about it, but Valen turned to face him.
"We’re done here. Let’s leave now."
He immediately started walking.
Qasim stood there for a moment before following him.
