After they saved the children, Qasim wanted to ask Valen about his injury, but Valen simply laughed it off, saying it was nothing.
"If you say so..."
Qasim didn’t push any further. He simply sat in silence.
...
Back at the base, Valen asked Qasim to wait for him before starting his lessons. The boy agreed.
Time passed, and Qasim slowly started to get bored.
*What’s taking him so long...?*
He eventually decided to go check on him. Maybe Valen needed help with something.
Valen wasn’t in the meeting room.
He wasn’t in the kitchen.
He wasn’t in the restroom either.
*Might be in his office...*
Qasim headed there next.
He knocked on the door.
No response.
He knocked again.
Still nothing.
Qasim opened the door, but Valen wasn’t inside.
*Where the hell is he?*
He stepped into the office and looked around.
*Come to think of it, this is my first time in here...*
His eyes wandered around the room before suddenly catching something on the desk.
A thick notebook.
*I never saw this one before...*
Qasim was puzzled. Valen had never shown him this notebook before.
As he glanced around, he noticed something else.
There was an extra drawer built into the desk.
Qasim’s eyes narrowed.
*Is this maybe some secret notebook?*
A mocking smile slowly appeared on his face.
*Valen, Valen... What kind of secrets does a person like you have?*
He picked up the notebook.
*Is it about love? Or some embarrassing secrets? Oh boy, this is gonna be funny~*
Qasim laughed quietly as he imagined the embarrassed look on Valen’s face once he discovered that his precious secrets weren’t secrets anymore.
But his smile quickly faded as he opened the notebook and read the first page.

Experiment 1
1226/01/01
The strings of fate are undetectable. No matter how hard or how long I try, they never become visible to me, even after I start bleeding from my eyes.
Experiment 2
1226/02/01
I took over a frog and changed his mind to believe that he was a dog. The result was disappointing, as the frog died because it couldn’t breathe like a dog...
At least, it’s promising.
Experiment 3
1226/03/01
We captured five scientists during our last mission. I handed four over to the Black Seed and kept one to try and change his memories.
For some reason, I failed, and he committed suicide.
But I don’t think it was because of my approach. Rather, I think there’s something about them.
Experiment 4
...
Qasim was stunned by what he was reading.
He decided to skip a few pages.
...
Experiment 32
1228/05/01
My new team member told me about a beastkin’s head exploding, and that gave me an idea.
To make a person’s memories explode without hurting their physical body.
I took a rat and trained it to dance whenever it heard a bell.
Then I tried to remove that memory.
I failed.
In the end, I think it’s better not to try to get anything from Yorness and instead search for the answers myself.
...
Qasim raised an eyebrow.
He was confused.
This entry was only five months old.
He wrote this on the same day I told him about Serbi’s death...
Qasim continued reading.
He soon noticed something.
The amount of writing increased with each experiment.
...
Experiment 42
1228/07/22
I started to get some ideas on how to control the dead, but it doesn’t work as intended.
It’s still not reliable and has many problems, such as memory loss and uncontrollable tweaking.
Experiment 48
1228/09/09
After returning from the dungeon mission, I now realize why the scientists can’t be manipulated.
But I don’t care about that anymore.
The most important thing is that I now have an idea...
If I can revive that person, then everything will be solved.
Experiment 52
1228/10/01
I made it!
I managed to create a prototype of the revival method!
I still haven’t tried it yet, but theoretically, it should revive him within my body.
That way, we can share the same body!
Experiment 53
1228/10/25
Something went wrong...
The revival didn’t work properly.
...
Qasim’s heart dropped as he read the last line.
There was one more page.
He reached for it.
But before he could read it, a voice suddenly called out behind him.
"Boy, what are you doing here?"
Valen entered the office.
His eyes widened the moment he saw what Qasim was holding.
"Fuck..." he muttered with a sigh. "I thought I hid it before leaving."
"Who are you...?" Qasim asked carefully, raising his hand.
"Boy, don’t get the wrong idea. It’s me, Valen."
Qasim glanced at him suspiciously.
"Is this some sort of joke, then? If you’re the Valen I know, then what did you mean by ’something went wrong’ while trying to..."
He shook his head, unable to find the right words.
"I don’t know... Something related to summoning someone else to live inside your body!"
Valen gave him a tired look.
For a moment, neither of them moved.
Neither spoke.
Then Valen took a deep breath and closed his eyes.
"By that, I meant the revival didn’t happen the way I wanted it to. The conditions I created weren’t fully executed properly, and suddenly..."
He paused.
"It didn’t revive the person I was looking for."
Valen lowered his head.
"It revived someone else..."
Qasim was still confused.
"That doesn’t make sense. If you are the Valen I know, and you’re telling me that the revival failed and, instead of the person you were looking for, it revived someone else..."
His voice became quieter.
"But you were with us the whole month. When did..."
Qasim’s eyes widened.
A possibility suddenly flashed through his mind.
His heart began beating faster.
His breathing became heavier.
Valen noticed the sudden change.
"Boy, I’ll tell you everything, okay?" he said calmly. "But I need you to sit down first and calm down."
Despite Valen’s words, Qasim felt a sharp pain in his chest.
He clutched it tightly, overwhelmed by a dark thought he desperately didn’t want to believe.
He looked at Valen.
Then he screamed.
It wasn’t an angry scream.
It wasn’t a question.
It was a desperate plea.
Tears began forming in the corners of his eyes.
"Tell me you’re fine! Tell me that everything is going to be okay and that I don’t need to worry about you!... Please, tell me—"
"Boy!"
Valen cut him off.
His expression was serious.
He slowly walked toward Qasim and placed a hand on his shoulder, gently pushing him down into the chair.
Qasim stared at him.
His eyes glistened with tears.
And beneath those tears was a small, desperate spark of hope.
Valen looked at him for a moment.
Then he spoke.
"I am dead, my boy..."
His voice was quiet.
"Valen is dead."
