Chapter 168: Chapter

Wenzhe shifted his body, turning his broad back completely toward where Xiao Chen lay sleeping. His tall frame blocked any possible view of the two of them.

"You did not answer me," Wenzhe whispered against her lips, his voice dropping into a low, quiet growl.

Before Yueqing could answer, he gently lowered her down onto the soft fur blanket on the ground, hovering right over her to shield her from the cold air.

His hands pushed aside the soft layers of her inner robe. He leaned down, his lips brushing past her jaw and down her neck until his mouth closed warm and soft around her sensitive pink nipple.

A sharp wave of heat shot through Yueqing’s body. She bit her lip hard, but as he gently suckled her peak, soft, helpless noises slipped right past her teeth.

When he finally pulled his mouth away, Wenzhe did not stop there.

His large, warm hand slid further down her body, moving past her waist and slipping beneath her inner clothes. Yueqing gasped softly as his fingers found her warm, wet center. He began to touch and stroke the slick, sensitive spot between her thighs with slow, deliberate rhythm.

Yueqing’s eyes widened in sheer shock. Her face burned hot, and her heart pounded wildly against her ribs. She threw her arms around his neck, burying her face into his shoulder and biting into his skin to keep from letting out a loud moan that would echo across the cave.

She tried to push him away, but Wenzhe was like a mountain; he stayed completely still above her, his fingers continuing to play with her wet warmth until her whole body shivered in his arms.

[This crazy, possessive block of wood!] Yueqing panicked frantically in her head, her breath coming in fast, heavy hitches. [He has completely lost his mind!]

Wenzhe heard her frantic thoughts echoing loud and clear in his mind. A quiet, deep laugh vibrated in his chest against her chest. Loving how warm, wet, and responsive she was for him, he slowed his hand down, letting her ride out the sweet, intense wave of heat.

Finally, he pulled his hand back, sliding her robes back into place and pulling the thick fur blanket tightly around her trembling body. He pulled her close into his chest, holding her tight so she wouldn’t freeze.

"Now stop thinking about other men," Wenzhe whispered softly near her ear, his warm breath tickling her neck. "Close your eyes, Yueqing."

Yueqing buried her red face deep into his shoulder, her heart still beating fast and her body completely weak.

[Fine... goodnight, you crazy block of wood,] she thought lazily, too embarrassed and tired to fight him anymore.

Wenzhe smiled in the dark as her thought reached his mind, holding her safe and warm as the fire slowly burned low.

Morning came quickly. The storm outside had finally stopped, and pale sunlight crept into the mouth of the cave.

Yueqing woke up feeling warm, wrapped tightly in Wenzhe’s arms. But as soon as she opened her eyes, she heard quick movement nearby.

Across the cave, Xiao Chen stood up, adjusting his robes with a cold, sharp gaze. His face darkened the moment he saw Yueqing pressed right against Wenzhe’s chest.

"What is the meaning of this?" Xiao Chen asked, his voice low, firm, and strict. "Xi Wenzhe, why are you holding Lady Sue like that?"

Wenzhe didn’t even flinch. He slowly opened his dark eyes, looking back at the prince with complete calm. Without rushing, he pulled the fur blanket tighter over Yueqing’s shoulders before sitting up slowly, his clothes already neatly covering his fresh bandages.

"She is my wife," Wenzhe replied coolly, his voice flat. "I can hold her however I wish."

Xiao Chen’s eyes narrowed into a dangerous glare. "She is injured and weak. Have some restraint."

Before the tension between the two men could break into a fight, Yueqing let out a long sigh. She rolled her eyes, placed her hands against Wenzhe’s chest, and pushed him away so she could stand up herself.

"Both of you, stop," Yueqing muttered, smoothing down her wrinkled robes.

[These two are going to give me a headache before breakfast,] she thought, her mind rolling its eyes even harder.

Wenzhe heard her thought clearly and reached out to steady her elbow as she stood. But before Xiao Chen could speak again, heavy footsteps crunched through the snow outside.

"General Wenzhe! Madam!" a woman’s voice cried out.

Dong Li and Lu Yue rushed into the cave.

The moment Lu Yue spotted her mistress, her eyes flooded with tears. "Madam!" she cried, completely ignoring the heavy tension in the room as she ran past the men straight to Yueqing’s side, grabbing her hands to check her for injuries. "Thank the heavens you are alive! Are you hurt?"

"I’m fine, Lu Yue," Yueqing said softly, patting her maid’s arm to calm her down.

Meanwhile, Dong Li stood at the entrance, bowing respectfully toward Xiao Chen and Wenzhe. His sharp gaze quickly drifted between the icy expression on Prince Xiao Chen’s face and Wenzhe, who was standing possessively right behind Yueqing.

Xiao Chen straightened his shoulders, turning to Dong Li with a cold tone. "The storm has cleared. Prepare the horses immediately. Lady Sue needs proper medical care back at the camp."

"She rides with me," Wenzhe interjected smoothly, taking a step forward to place a firm hand on Yueqing’s shoulder.

Xiao Chen’s jaw tightened, his sharp eyes clashing with Wenzhe’s dark glare in silence.

[Great,] Yueqing thought, stepping out from under Wenzhe’s heavy grip to head toward the cave entrance with Lu Yue. [The blizzard outside is over, but the war between these two isn’t .]

Wenzhe’s lips twitched with a tiny, hidden smile as her thought echoed in his mind, and he followed right behind her into the crisp morning air.

As they moved out of the woods, they reached the carriage from the night before. Miraculously, the carriage was still in good condition and ready to move.

Since Yueqing was still injured and sore from her fall, she climbed inside to prepare for the ride back to camp. But as Wenzhe moved to enter the carriage along with her, Xiao Chen stepped forward, intending to climb inside as well.

Wenzhe blocked the prince’s path immediately, his arm extending like an iron bar. "This carriage is for my wife. You should take a horse and return to your palace."

Xiao Chen’s eyes narrowed dangerously. "I am the Third Prince of this empire. I go where I please. Are you daring to disobey the imperial family, General?"

"Both of you, shut up!" Yueqing’s sharp voice cut through the air from inside the carriage. She leaned out, looking thoroughly pissed off. "Neither of you is entering. Get out, both of you! I am riding alone."

Wenzhe turned to her, his dark eyes softening into a look of slight offense. "Really, Yueqing? I am injured. Do you want me to ride a horse in this freezing cold when my wound is fresh?" He turned his back slightly, showing the slight shift in his posture so she would remember the bandage under his robes.

Yueqing rolled her eyes so hard it hurt. "You rode all the way here in just a few days through a storm without properly treating your back," she shouted back, completely unbothered by his guilt trip. "If you could do that, you can ride a little bit more back to camp by yourself! Nobody else is getting inside. Only Lu Yue!"

She pushed both men back from the door frame and slammed the curtain shut.

Lu Yue hesitated at the steps, looking nervously at Wenzhe, then at Prince Xiao Chen, feeling a huge wave of awkward guilt. But seeing her mistress’s glare, she quickly scampered inside the carriage and pulled the door shut behind her.

Left outside, Wenzhe and Xiao Chen exchanged one final, deadly glare before mounting their respective horses. As the carriage began to move, Xiao Chen pulled his reins to head toward his royal residence, while Wenzhe rode alongside Yueqing’s carriage, keeping a steady guard all the way to camp.

Inside the quiet carriage, Lu Yue immediately set to work. She brought out a clean, fresh set of robes, a thick fur blanket, and a small box of warm pastries and tea to help her mistress recover from the long, exhausting night.

"Madam," Lu Yue whispered softly, handing her a warm cup of tea. "Are you truly going to make the General ride in the cold with his back injured?"

Yueqing took a sip of the tea, letting out a satisfied sigh as the warmth spread through her chest.

[That block of wood survived a month-long battle and a blizzard without flinching,] Yueqing thought, leaning back against the soft cushions. [A short ride to camp on a horse will not kill him.]

Outside on his horse, Wenzhe heard her thought loud and clear. The corner of his mouth twitched into a quiet, amused smile as he rode silently through the snow.
