Chapter 189: Chapter
Yueqing went quiet for a moment, her face still burning from his teasing. Then, slowly lowering her hands, she looked up with a dangerous glint in her eyes.
"Nine," she muttered, her voice dropping into a deadpan, serious tone. "I want to drink. Get me wine."
Nine raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms tighter over his chest. "Host, it is late, you have a massive political minefield of a banquet to prepare for, and drinking your feelings usually leads to terrible life choices."
"I don’t care," Yueqing snapped, grabbing another pillow and glaring at him. "My husband hates me and my first ex-target-turned-hookup is sitting on a throne waiting to judge me. I need alcohol, and I need it right now. If you don’t get me wine, I swear I’m going to start throwing things again, starting with your face."
Nine chuckled softly, shaking his head. "Alright, alright. Point taken. Consider the wine delivery underway."
Nine slipped back out into the dimly lit hallway where Lu Yue was pacing anxiously. Spotting a sleepy-looking maid standing nearby, Nine smoothly ordered her to fetch a few jars of the household’s strongest plum wine.
Within minutes, the first jug arrived, and then another, and another.
Every time Nine stepped out to demand yet another bottle, Lu Yue would get angrier, her face flushing red with fury as she intercepted him in the corridor.
"Are you out of your mind?!" Lu Yue hissed, glaring daggers at him and jabbing a finger into his chest. "Stop feeding the Young Madame wine! She’s drowning her sorrows, and you’re just helping her! Make her sleep already!"
Nine didn’t even blink. He smoothly stepped around her, his expression utterly unbothered by her scolding.
"Whatever the Young Madame wants, she gets," Nine replied casually, flashing her a infuriatingly calm smirk before pushing past her. "Move."
Inside the room, empty wine jugs piled up on the floor. Su Yueqing sat cross-legged on the bed, her cheeks bright red, holding a cup in her hand. Across from her, sitting messily on the floor, was Nine. Even though he was her system, he looked dizzy and drunk.
Yueqing squinted at him through a blurry, wine-soaked haze. She leaned forward with a silly grin, reached out, and gave him a clumsy smack right on top of his head. Thump.
"Hey... robot man," Yueqing hiccuped, giggling as she poked his forehead. "How does a robot even get drunk? You do not have a liver! Are you cheating?"
Nine blinked slowly, his usual sharp look gone, replaced by a goofy smile. He rubbed his head and let out a soft laugh.
"Not cheating, Host," Nine mumbled, slurring his words a little as he leaned back against the desk. "They added full human senses. They made sure I could taste everything you taste and feel everything you feel... including a terrible digital hangover."
Yueqing squinted down at him, her eyebrows scrunching together as her drunken brain tried to puzzle that logic out.
"Wait..." she mumbled, leaning in so close her nose almost bumped his. She poked him in the chest again, letting out a suspicious huff. "If you can taste and feel... yet you can’t bleed?"
Nine tried to open his mouth to explain, but his eyes suddenly rolled back, his head bobbing forward. Without another word, he pitched sideways and passed out completely on the floor, dead to the world.
Yueqing blinked down at him, waving a hand in front of his face.
"Hey. Robot man. Wake up," Yueqing slurred, giving his shoulder a drunken kick. "Wake up and get me more wine..."
When he didn’t even twitch, she let out a loud, frustrated groan and shoved herself up from the bed. Swaying heavily on her feet, she stumbled toward the door. Outside, Lu Yue wasn’t there to stop her, and the hallway was entirely empty.
Muttering to herself, Yueqing wandered aimlessly through the quiet estate, her feet carrying her in a very uncoordinated, zig-zagging line until she finally bumped straight into a familiar set of doors.
Wenzhe’s courtyard.
Her eyes lit up with tipsy, righteous fury. She threw her hands up into the air and kicked at the heavy wooden door with all the strength her buzzed legs could muster.
"Hey! Bastard, you in there?!" Yueqing shouted, her voice echoing loudly in the night air. "You kicked me out, huh?! Open up! I’m going to teach you a lesson!"
The heavy wooden doors creaked open as Yueqing stumbled inside, shuffling forward like a clumsy, zombie-like creature in the dark.
Wenzhe had just been closing his eyes, trying his best to fall asleep despite the stinging pain of his treated wounds. When he heard the door push open, he assumed it was just his assistant.
"Dong Li, what is it?" Wenzhe asked flatly without turning his head.
When he finally looked up, his breath hitched. In the dim candlelight, the sight of Yueqing swaying back and forth with a blank, glazed look on her face made him freeze. For a split second, his mind genuinely flashed to the horrifying thought that a ghost had materialized in his bedroom.
As she zombie-walked closer, his shock quickly turned into sheer disgust. He pulled a face like he had just swallowed a rotten plum.
"Are you completely out of your mind? Are you drunk at this hour of the night?!" Wenzhe snapped, glaring up at her in disbelief. "Where is Lu Yue? Did she just let you wander around like this—"
Before he could finish shouting for his guard, Yueqing lunged forward. She slammed her hand straight over his mouth to cut him off, hoisting herself up and scrambling right onto the bed. Straddling his abdomen, she pinned him down and immediately started raining uncoordinated, drunken punches down on his face and chest.
"Take that, you giant jerk!" Yueqing hiccuped angrily, throwing wild punches that lacked actual force but made up for it in pure chaotic spite.
Wenzhe let out a sharp gasp as her weight landed right on his freshly treated abdomen, sending a brutal spike of pain straight through his scarred torso.
"Ugh—!" Wenzhe hissed, his eyes widening in pure shock as he grabbed her wrists to stop her fists.
Even in her drunken rage, the moment her hands brushed against his bare, injured chest, she felt the hot, damp stickiness of fresh blood seeping through his bandages. Her wild punches instantly stopped.
Yueqing blinked down at him, her hazy brain finally trying to process what she was touching. Her fingers smeared against his chest, coming away stained with red.
"Oh..." Yueqing mumbled, her angry scowl instantly melting into a look of tipsy realization. She leaned in dangerously close, her boozy breath puffing right against his face as she stared down at him with wide, glassy eyes. "Oops... did I break you again, giant jerk?"
