Leonard was understandably groggy when he woke up the next day.

He had spent the whole night wondering how he would fare on the frontlines and about the morality of taking a human life.

With a lazy yawn, he stretched his body and got up earlier than he was supposed to.

The 2,000 Merit Points he had earned during the Monster Wave suppression weighed heavily in his bank balance. Without any hesitation, he headed toward the market for a shopping spree.

"At the moment, Titanic Oath is more than enough, so I won’t need any more weapons. Additionally, I still have two mana points that I have yet to use. However, my leather armor is sadly becoming unbearably outdated. It doesn’t provide enough protection for my body, and if we are really about to be plunged into a war, I will need all the protection I can get."

Due to his upbringing, he had grown up with the mindset of saving money and avoiding unnecessary spending whenever possible. Yet when it came to his safety, he couldn’t afford to cheap out. His life was the most expensive thing he had.

Moving from stall to stall, his eyes darted quickly as he searched for the most suitable option.

But Leonard learned pretty quickly that he was out of his depth when it came to equipment.

Some armor sets were too heavy, restricting his movements, while others offered little to no protection.

There was also the matter of their materials. Depending on the type of metal used to forge them, they might break more easily and be harder to repair.

To make matters worse, he encountered several scammers who tried to swindle him out of his Merit Points.

"Here I thought that since the market is on the academy grounds, the prices and items would be regulated for the scholars’ benefit... It seems I was wrong. Could they have intentionally left the unregulated market flourishing in order to teach us the true value of money?" He pondered.

Still deep in thought, he wasn’t looking where he was going. Accidentally, he bumped into a girl who had her back turned toward him.

"Ah!" She yelled in surprise, falling to the ground.

"I—I’m sorry. I wasn’t looking where I was going." Leonard apologized, extending his hand to help her up.

"You! Watch where you’re going..." Harley was about to scold him until her eyes landed on him, her fury disappearing in an instant. "Leonard?"

"Harley?" He blinked in surprise, helping her back up.

She stood up quickly, fixing her hair as her eyes narrowed at him.

"What are you doing here so early?" Harley asked, her eyes scanning the surroundings to see if he had come here alone.

"I need a new piece of armor." Leonard heaved a deep sigh as he tapped at his leather armor. "It’s time to retire this one."

Harley pouted adorably and crossed her arms.

"So rather than coming to me for help, you decided it was smarter to wander around clueless?" She said, sounding slightly irritated.

Her mother was the owner of the Velmura brand, which, besides fashion, also specialized in creating battle attire. A part of her felt hurt that he hadn’t come to seek advice.

Leonard stood quiet for a moment, letting the silence settle between them.

"I didn’t want to bother you... Not after our engagement was broken off. Relying on your family would be awkward and in poor taste, after how easily they wrote me off. We’re not fiancés anymore, so I have nothing to do with Velmura."

A faint trace of regret washed over Harley’s face. For a second, she wished she could go back in time and try harder to convince her mother not to break off their engagement, but alas.

Still, she wasn’t willing to give up. A faint smirk formed across her lips as she reached out and grasped his hand.

"Here, you are wrong!" She declared, pulling him toward her.

"Both of us are in the Elite grade. Additionally, we are also part of the same party. You are, by all accounts, my teammate, and ensuring that you are in top condition doesn’t just benefit you but me as well!"

Without waiting for a reply, she dragged him forward, eager to find the best armor.

"Besides, we in Velmura are professionals. The past doesn’t matter. As long as you have the funds, your gear will be top-notch!"

Leonard stared at her enthusiastic nature and chuckled.

"Alright." He decided to follow her along.

’So what if Elizabeth and Arabella met him inside the forest?! Now I have him all to myself!’ Harley beamed in delight, puffing out her chest with pride.

Slowly, her cheeks flushed red as the realization settled over her.

"Wait... Just the two of us? Isn’t that... basically a date?" She whispered to herself, throwing a side glance toward Leonard, who remained oblivious.

Unable to hold her gaze for too long, she averted her eyes.

Harley hesitated for a fraction of a second, keeping her gaze away before subtly moving closer and wrapping her arms around his.

"Is something wrong?" Leonard asked. Harley’s close proximity made him think that somebody was trailing them and was about to attack.

"No..." She replied timidly and cleared her throat. "Early morning is a bit too cold for my liking... Do you mind?"

He arched an eyebrow, wondering if it really was that cold.

"Suit yourself." Leonard answered with a nonchalant shrug.

A faint smile spread across Harley’s face as she curled her blonde hair with her free hand.

Eventually, the two went into the main building of Velmura, where all kinds of attire were being sold.

Because the place was open around the clock, it was always bustling with customers. The fashion section consisted mostly of women.

"Look at these two. Aren’t they cute?" One whispered.

"Totally! How long do you think they’ve been dating?" Another replied.

Feeling her face grow redder by the minute, Harley hurriedly moved toward the armor section.

"Here we are. We have all kinds of armor on display, with the option to even get one tailored to fit your needs!" She boasted about the extent of their operations.

Just a second later, her demeanor shattered, and her body tensed to the limit, her eyes locking onto a figure in the distance.

It was Harley’s mother, who was in the middle of touring the place to check up on how the business was going.

Before Harley could hide Leonard, her mother’s gaze fixed upon them, noticing the pair from afar.

"Oh no!"
