The next morning I woke up and continued on my journey through the forest in the same direction as before. Not even ten minutes after I began walking I heard distant voices in the forest, so I snuck over to see who it was. When I got closer I could see two human men walking and one of them was carrying a woman over his shoulder. Her feet were tied together at the ankles and her hands were tied together behind her back.

"Can we stop now? We’ve been walking all night." Said the man carrying the woman.

"Sure, we should be far enough that nobody can find us. And we’re deep enough in the forest that nobody will hear her cries for help as we enjoy our new toy." Said the second man. The first man dropped the girl on the ground at his feet.

"Good, since I carried her all night i get the first turn with her." He said grinning while standing over the girl.

When he dropped the girl she hit the ground with a thud and looked up at the men wide eyed after hearing their plans for her. I climbed a tree and moved through the branches until I was directly above them.

’These thugs don’t seem like the type of people that would be missed by others if I killed them.’ I thought as I summoned my new sword from the storage ring. The second man began working on building a fire while the first man stood over the girl and began undressing himself. I positioned myself above him and stepped off of the branch. My feet landed squarely on his shoulders and the force of my fall combined with my weight caused his body to collapse in on itself resulting in at least a dozen shattered bones. He lay there screaming in pain as I then turned on the other man and ran my sword through his stomach and ripped it sideways until it tore through and out of his side. He fell to the ground and quickly died as I turned toward the first man, ending his screaming by putting my sword through his skull.

I went through their belongings and found a decent one handed bearded axe, a couple of daggers, and some food. One of them had a gambeson that fit me pretty well so I took it too. I then turned toward the woman who was staring at me.

"If I take that cloth out of your mouth will you stay quiet? His screaming probably already alerted nearby goblins of our presence." I said slowly approaching her and reaching for the cloth between her teeth that was tied behind her head. She flinched away from me when I got closer to her. I stopped and held my hands up.

"I promise I won’t hurt you, but if I take that out of your mouth you need to be quiet. Okay?" I said. She looked at me for a second before nodding her head. I slowly reached out my hands and carefully untied the cloth behind her head and gently took it out of her mouth.

"There, is that better?" I asked. She slowly nodded.

"Can you tell me what happened?" I asked.

She looked over at the bodies of the men who had been carrying her for a minute before turning back to me.

"They attacked our wagon on the road and killed my parents, then they tied me up and carried me into the forest." She said as she looked down at her lap.

"That is just terrible, if I untied you could you make it home on your own?" I asked. She looked up at me and shook her head.

"No, I fell asleep last night while they carried me so I don’t know what direction to go in. And even if I found a road it’s dangerous to travel alone, goblins tend to watch the roads and attack people they find traveling on the roads." She said.

"Yeah, this forest is infested with those vermin. I’ve killed too many goblins to count in the last several days." I said.

"Do you know how to find the road?" She asked.

"No, I have actually never seen a road. I have been wandering around this forest killing goblins and orcs." I said.

"Oh." She said as she looked back down at her lap.

"Are you hungry? I can untie your hands so you can eat if you want." I said. She nodded her head so I stepped behind her and untied her hands. Then I took some dried meat out of my ring and handed it to her and sat on the other side of the fire facing her while she ate.

"Can I ask a question, if you don’t mind?" She asked.

"Sure." I said.

"Umm, what are you. You are definitely not a human, and I don’t think you are a beast-kin. You are not an elf, and you are definitely too tall to be a dwarf." She said.

"You are right, I am neither of those. Actually, I am probably the rarest race in this world. I am a red goblin." I said. Her eyes went wide in fear when she heard the word "goblin".

"Don’t worry. I am not like the green goblins. I will not harm you unless you try to harm me." I said. She continued to eat the food I gave her as she stared at me.

"I have never heard of a red goblin." She said between bites.

"No one has. That is because I am the first and only red goblin. I don’t have a family, and I don’t have a clan. The green goblins are natural enemies of my race and since I am the only one if I am killed that is the end of my race." I said as I watched her eat.
