Primordial Red Goblin

Chapter 58: How Do We Do This?

"Orcs." She replied.

"Which direction?" I asked.

She told me the direction and how far they were.

"Okay, you girls stay here and wait for me to return." I said.

"Alright. Everyone get up in the trees." Sarah said.

They climbed up into the trees and sat on the branches. After everyone was safely hidden I ran in the direction Lyra told me. After ten minutes I found them. I began quietly picking them off before entering their cave. After forty-five minutes I had killed them all and found their hoard. I put the hoard in my ring and counted it. Along with the jewelry there was ninety-three gold, two hundred fourty-six silver, and one thousand seven hundred eighteen bronze. I now had one hundred sixty-three gold, two hundred seventy-four silver, and two thousand sixty-seven bronze coins. There were also four more storage rings on the floor. After checking the new rings I added another thirty-two silver and eighty-one bronze to my total.

"Pretty good haul." I mumbled to myself.

I left the cave and returned to the girls who jumped down from the trees when they saw me.

"So? Was it good?" Sarah asked.

I told them how much I found and how much I now have total and Sarah smiled. I also gave each of them one of the storage rings so now they all had one for each hand. I still have five on my fingers.

"At this rate we’ll have what we need in a few weeks." Sarah said.

"I still can’t believe it’s this easy to get filthy rich." I said.

"It’s only easy for you because you are a big bad red goblin that was forced to become an awesome warrior surviving alone in the forest. I already explained this to you." Sarah said.

"Still. The humans should be able to do this too." I said.

"Humans aren’t born in the wilderness and forced to fight for their lives everyday. Humans are soft compared to you." She said.

"If you say so." I sighed.

We returned to our journey and continued for the next three days until an hour after midday we found the goblin cave.

"Alright here is the plan. Amber is the lowest level person here so I will bring the goblins and Amber will kill them until she catches up to Sarah. Then Sarah and Amber will take turns. If they catch up with Lyra she will join in too." I said.

The girls all nodded and got into position. I spent the next two hours bringing the goblins one at a time. Amber slowly leveled up until she caught up to Sarah at level four but by then there were no more goblins for Sarah to get a turn. Amber collected her arrows and the girls began removing the right ear from all the goblins to give to the guild as proof they completed the mission. After they were finished we began heading back.

"How about we take the long way back to see if we can find another orc cave? I told the sisters we would be back after a week or two so we have a few days to spare." I said.

"Okay, that’ll help us reach our goal faster if we do find another one." Sarah said.

We turned to make a wide route back to the city that would add three days to our journey. We continued our journey and over the remaining days of the trip we found another goblin cave. After bringing the goblins to the girls one by one Amber and Sarah made it to level six. Lyra was still level seven. We didn’t find another orc cave. We returned to the city thirteen days after leaving. I took the girls to the guild and Amber went inside to register as a member of the team. They came back out and divided the payment among each other after I refused it when Sarah offered it to me. They were paid a total of ten silver.

"This is why it’s so hard for new adventurers to afford decent gear. A party of four level one adventurers being paid ten silver per mission. That is two silver fifty for each person. A full set of steel armor can cost around fifty silver so they would be forced to buy it one piece at a time." Sarah explained.

"That’s rough." I said.

We then went to a jewelry store and sold the jewelry from the orc hoard for seventy silver.

"Let’s get this over with. Time to go to the orphanage." I said.

We walked to the orphanage and saw work crews working on different parts of the ground floor. We entered and spoke to the sisters.

"So have the five of you thought about me becoming this orphanage’s sponsor?" I asked.

"Yes mister Red.’ Sister Lilly answered.

"I want to hear it from each of you. Do you all consent to this?" I asked.

All five sisters nodded their heads.

"Yes sir." They answered.

"Why?" I asked.

"Because the children deserve more than what we’ve been able to give them." Sister Alice replied.

"Because you are their best hope to do something with their lives." Sister Lisa answered.

"Because of you the children no longer have to wonder if we will have something to feed them when they wake up in the morning." Answered sister Sandy.

"Because of you the children have new beds and warm blankets and clothes that aren’t more patches than actual clothes. They have warm blankets and full stomachs." Answered sister Nyx.

"I already know your decision." I said to Sister Lilly.

She nodded and smiled.

"So how do we do this?" I asked.

She pulled out a sheet of paper.

"We have to to go the Goddess’ temple and show that you have the funds listed on this paper and you must sign the sponsorship contract with the church." Sister Lilly said.

I took the paper from her and read through it.
