Raising Yanderes to save the world
Chapter 233: Ch 232: Burning the Elf TreeThe burning of the elf tree was visible to everyone outside. Even those who had no interest in any of this looked shocked to see the great elf tree meet its end.
But no one was more terrified than Kana. She looked at the burned tree as if it had taken away all her hopes and dreams with it.
"Don’t do this...My precious tree...don’t take it away..."
She spoke softly, unwilling to believe that the elf tree had met its end. Her sister had given her life for that tree, and now it was gone.
"Lady Kana, what should we do now?"
One of her subordinates asked in a tense voice. He looked just as shocked as she felt, and his wide eyes only made Kana feel even worse. She let out a chuckle before slamming her fists into the wall, her enhanced strength shattering it.
Her anger was clear, and the elves around her reflected that anger just as fiercely.
"What else can we do? We are going to avenge our fallen elf tree at all costs. Everyone, get ready. It’s time for us to fight against our oppressors."
She called out, and everyone prepared to storm into the elf tree’s protected sanctuary.
The scene inside was even worse than the one outside. There were burn marks everywhere, and the corruption lingering in the air showed that their elf tree had fought against the flames. But it had been too much.
In the center of this devastation stood Seraphina, Leon, and Kael. But they looked unharmed for the most part.
Just looking at them made Kana’s blood boil. Kael was especially loathsome since he had already gotten Selene killed. This only added insult to injury.
"What did you do? Do you think you will be forgiven for daring to destroy the elf race? We will never forgive you—"
"I don’t expect you to. But since you all decided to walk in here on your own, I might as well begin the next step of this purification."
Kael sighed as he spoke and snapped his fingers. Within seconds, holy fire began to wrap itself around their bodies, trying to pull them deeper into the abyss.
"W-What is going on?"
"I’m on fire! Someone, save me!"
"Mommy, I’m scared—!"
The elves cried out around Kana as the fire spread. She could feel the heat on her skin as well as the flames trying to tear her apart.
It hurt. She felt like she was dying. Her skin was melting, and her very essence was being burned by the holy fire.
"You...won’t...get away...with this..."
She tried to threaten him, but her voice sounded weak and strained. Her mind was no longer working properly, making Kana feel as though she were suspended between life and death.
Kael sighed as he looked at her with pity in his eyes. He also shook his head, though his gaze remained cold.
"Lady Kana, this pain will only be temporary. If you endure it and cling to life, then you and all the elves will be given a second chance. Don’t you think that’s a worthwhile bargain?"
Kael asked in a calm voice, but his words only irritated Kana further. She refused to believe that Kael genuinely wanted to help her and her people.
"Go fuck yourself! Do you think I’ll believe your excuses after you set us on fire like this?"
Kana asked in a hoarse voice, and Kael could only sigh at her response.
"It’s such a pity. I was sure we could have become great friends if not for everything that happened here. Don’t you think so too, Lady Kana?"
But the high elf did not give an answer Kael could understand. Her words became increasingly slurred as her consciousness began to fade.
She could feel a part of herself being stripped away, crying out to her as it reached toward her. She tried to reach back, but the fire blocked her path.
"Don’t worry so much about what you are losing and what you are gaining. Just close your eyes and go to sleep. When you wake up, the world will have changed."
Kael told Kana, and her eyes finally closed.
She, along with all the other elves, fell into a deep but restorative sleep.
"A lot of them likely won’t wake up from this. But at least they won’t be controlled by corruption anymore. This was all we could do for them."
Leon placed a hand on Kael’s shoulder to console him. He knew his teacher well enough to understand that Kael was taking this hard.
Kael bit his lip before standing up and forcing himself to push his emotions aside.
"I know this is the best I could do for them. But I still feel guilty about having to do this. I had a feeling we could have talked things out, but I never even tried."
Kael tried his hardest not to show his frustration, but he could not hide it completely.
"Hey, I have a more important question...what are we going to do about these elves? We can’t leave them here unconscious. But I don’t think we have enough manpower to carry them all back to their rooms either."
Seraphina quickly drew their attention to the more immediate problem that Kael had forgotten until now, and he sighed once he realized this was yet another issue they needed to solve.
Luckily for them, the answer arrived quickly in the form of Lyra and her army. They were led inside by Adrian, and they were carrying unconscious soldiers on their backs.
"Kael, we’re finally here, just as you asked. And we brought gifts for you as well. What do you want us to do with them?"
Lyra asked as she gestured toward her army, and Kael looked at her as though she were his savior.
"Lyra, your timing is perfect. I need you and your people to help me with the cleanup. Help us out with as much as you can."
Kael instantly put the demon queen at work.
