"We managed to block the dragons’ attack this time. But I don’t think this approach is going to work forever. Kael, do you have a plan regarding this?"

Ken asked in a tired voice. His hands were shaking after fighting so hard, but he still kept standing in order to help out his soldiers. He was a good commander in that sense, even if he was strict with his own people.

As for Kael, he did have a plan until moments ago, but he was no longer sure it was worth heading after the dragons outright. Their viciousness and unwillingness to talk were quite clear in his mind.

"Perhaps it would be better if we eliminate the dragons outright."

Lyra repeated the words Kael was thinking, only to get smacked on the head by Elena.

"Ouch! What was that for? I was just making an observation?"

The demon queen asked in a shocked voice, but Elena did not look even a bit guilty after what she had just done.

"Don’t say useless things like that. This joke has gone too far. The dragons are not enemies we can easily take out."

Elena pointed out, which made Lyra pout in annoyance.

"Why are you acting like this? I was just trying to make a point! Anyway, should we still risk breaking into the dragons’ territory after what happened? I don’t think they would be too happy to see us."

The demon queen continued, and her words were beginning to convince a lot of people that it was not worth trying to make the dragons back down.

Kael sighed as he watched the situation become sour. He watched Lyra for a few more seconds before he spoke to her.

"We need to deal with the dragons sooner or later. Otherwise, they will become a bigger concern. I still vote for heading into their lair."

"I will accompany you."

Seraphina quickly stepped forward to show that she was willing to stand by Kael’s side, and Leon quickly agreed as well.

Seeing them act like this made Lyra flinch, and she quickly tried to defend herself.

"When did I say I wouldn’t stand by Kael’s side? Of course, count me in as well. I was just trying to lighten the mood by making an observation. That was all."

Everyone knew that Lyra had meant every word she said before. But she was unwilling to make enemies over this, which was nice to see for a change.

Kael let out a sigh of relief as everyone nodded in agreement and decided that it was time to head toward the dragons’ territory once more.

"You all are back already? Did you crush those humans and show them who is in charge here?"

The dragon king asked in a joyous voice. He did not doubt for a second that the dragons would ever lose and come back in shame. So the other dragons hesitated to inform him of what had happened.

His fake sister, on the other hand, decided to boldly present her claim.

"Of course we showed those humans the might of the dragons. They won’t come and bother us for a while. And if they do, we can show them how mighty we are once more. Don’t you think that would be good, brother?"

The dragon king felt suspicious of his sister’s enthusiasm, but he did not question it. After all, this was what he had wanted from her forever—for her to understand him and appreciate him.

Now that he finally had this, there was no way he was going to trade it for anything else.

"You are right! Go and rest, my brave soldiers. Tonight, we shall have a feast fit for a king!"

The dragon king proclaimed, and the other dragons quickly headed back to their caves. But while heading to his room, one dragon noticed that there was something stuck to his back.

He quickly touched the pulsing sensation and felt a sense of disgust.

"What is this? I don’t like this feeling. Perhaps something got stuck to me while I was flying back? I better head out and take care of this."

The dragon quickly headed to the nearby lake to wash the disgusting substance off his back, but the second he stepped into the water, the pulsing sensation started to spread until it consumed him whole.

It took a few seconds, but the dragon was dragged beneath the water’s surface and swallowed whole, leaving no evidence behind that it had ever been there.

And then it emerged back out of the water, but it was no longer the same entity as before. Instead of a warm and sensible dragon, the beast in the water was no longer conscious of what it was doing.

A single roar from that creature ended up breaking trees and everything around it, causing mass destruction. And soon, it reached the point where the corruption started affecting the surroundings.

That was what Kael and the others came across—a gigantic mass of corruption that had lost its mind long before.

It attacked them as soon as it noticed them, but Leon and Seraphina used their holy powers to keep it at bay before disposing of it.

The dragon collapsed soon after, no longer able to bear the weight of its own power. But the concern that stemmed from this situation was one that Kael needed to address.

"I never thought I would ever see a dragon get corrupted like this. This whole forest smells of corruption. We will need to keep the other creatures away before they get contaminated as well."

Kael was not even finished speaking when Seraphina started to purify the area. She concentrated on driving the corruption away, but it took considerable effort on her part to clear the area.

By the time she was finished, it had already become too much of a burden on her, and the sun was going down as well. They decided to make camp and rest there for the night.

Kael looked at the female dragon on his shoulder, who had fallen quiet. She looked like she was having a hard time concentrating and coming to terms with what she had just seen.

And finally, she decided to open her mouth and say something regarding the situation.
