Rebirth: I have Monopoly System

Chapter 207: Invitation to the First World Internet Conference

October was a month of rapid development for the bike-sharing industry. All three companies in the market were frantically expanding their fleets.

Since market demand in the major cities was far from saturated, the three bike-sharing companies mostly focused on their own affairs without interfering with one another. The only exception was the occasional online spat between Little Red Car and Little Yellow Car.

People online described the situation as a three-way standoff. However, Little Red Car was the undisputed giant, with Little Yellow Car and Mobike playing catch-up as the newcomers.

Of course, Little Red Car couldn’t afford to be complacent during its expansion. It paid close attention to logistics and customer service, determined not to give Little Yellow Car any ammunition.

In his past life, Little Yellow Car had been the pioneer and leader. Even with the backing of capital, Dai Wei and his team’s contributions to its rapid growth had been undeniable.

Capital City, OFO Little Yellow Car Office.

Dai Wei and a few of his partners gathered for a rare celebration. They had burned through so much money, and now they were finally seeing some results. Thanks to their massive pool of user deposits, they could finally breathe a sigh of relief and stop worrying about where their next round of funding would come from.

Ling Fei, one of the co-founders, sighed. "It wasn’t easy getting this far. We don’t have Little Red Car’s deep pockets for marketing, so we’ve had to tighten our belts and pinch every penny. We’ve had to rely on our own employees hitting the streets to do promotions. It’s been tough."

"That’s right," another founder, Yang Tao, added with a deep sigh. "All the company’s funds have gone into producing more Little Yellow Cars. Without the user deposits, our only options would’ve been to either turn a profit or secure another round of funding ahead of schedule. Or we’d just be waiting to get acquired."

Though it was called a celebration, it felt more like a strategy meeting to discuss how to deal with their formidable rival, Little Red Car.

But Dai Wei just shook his head and grinned. "No need to be so pessimistic. According to our market research, a city with Capital City’s population needs at least 1.5 to 2 million bikes."

"That’s our opportunity. No matter how powerful Little Red Car is, their growth strategy means they can’t possibly deploy all their bikes in the Capital City market alone."

"We’ll seize the Capital City market! Then, we expand to all the other major provincial capitals!"

Dai Wei then added with a knowing smile, "And we’re not fighting this war alone."

Ling Fei suddenly slapped Yang Tao on the thigh. "Of course! Isn’t Mobike our ally? We’re both challengers right now. The enemy of my enemy is my friend!"

"Then why’d you slap my thigh?" Yang Tao grumbled, rubbing his leg. He added worriedly, "But we can’t underestimate Mobike. They have a major investor backing them personally. Unlike us, they aren’t short on cash."

"It feels like when the Southern Song allied with the Mongols to destroy the Jin dynasty, only for the Mongols to..."

"What kind of cynical talk is that!" someone retorted. "This is the Battle of Red Cliffs! We’re allying with Wu to fight Cao Cao!" The room instantly erupted into a heated debate.

Mobike was the most unique of the three. Unlike Little Red Car and Little Yellow Car, which had started from scratch, Mobike had clear backing from major investors from the very beginning.

Of course, this was only what Dai Wei assumed.

"Alright, stop arguing!" Dai Wei shouted, cutting them off. "It’s still anyone’s game. Let’s focus on solidifying our position in the Capital City market first!"

"Right. We’ll conquer the Capital market first, and then we’ll face Little Red Car and Mobike in a final showdown!"

...

Little Red Car’s scheduled monthly meeting was held on the 25th, right on time.

"As of 6:00 PM on the 24th, our company has deployed a total of 1.8 million Little Red Cars across five cities."

"This past month—from September 25th to October 24th—we gained 8.25 million new registered users, bringing our cumulative total to 18.48 million."

"Breaking it down, Rongcheng..."

Wu Yun studied the various analytical charts. They showed that Little Red Car’s user acquisition rate had slowed down somewhat.

The slowdown was most apparent in the Capital City and Modu markets. Due to the influence of Little Yellow Car and Mobike, a portion of potential users had been captured by them. However, the impact wasn’t significant, as there was still a large untapped market.

Wu Yun wasn’t worried about these minor fluctuations. After all, Little Red Car’s fleet size and user base were in a league of their own. Little Yellow Car and Mobike still had a long way to go to catch up.

To be honest, Wu Yun was least optimistic about Little Yellow Car. Based on his knowledge of their trajectory from his past life, and knowing the predatory nature of venture capitalists, they would surely chip away at the founding team’s equity bit by bit. It was only a matter of time before the founders were kicked out of their own company.

However, Little Yellow Car’s relatively low deposit was a smart move for their growth, allowing them to attract a large number of bargain-hunting users.

Wu Yun had discussed this with Li Qiuliang. For now, they couldn’t find a strategy to deal Little Yellow Car a fatal blow. Their only option was to compete by improving their marketing, service quality, and the quality of their bikes.

As for the "nuclear option" regarding deposits that Wu Yun had considered, it was a mutually destructive tactic. He wouldn’t play that trump card unless he was absolutely forced to.

Of course, thanks to his acquaintance with Li Dongliang and others, Wu Yun had another ace up his sleeve—a thermobaric bomb, metaphorically speaking. It concerned the future government crackdown on the chaos caused by bike-sharing. He would need to make contact ahead of time and assist the relevant government departments in their work to deal a heavy blow to his two competitors.

With the amount in their deposit pool skyrocketing once again, Little Red Car was no longer holding back. They negotiated with Foxconn and Modu Phoenix to expand production lines, aiming for a monthly output of two million bikes by the end of the year.

After the meeting, Wu Yun sat in his office, gazing at a large tree outside his window.

He was used to the sweeping vistas from the high-end offices of Pinduoduo and Phoenix Entertainment in Modu. In comparison, this office suddenly seemed to have lost all its charm.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!

A knock came at the office door.

After Wu Yun gave his permission, Li Qiuliang walked in, holding an elegant-looking envelope.

"President Wu, the first World Internet Conference will be held in Wuzhen, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, on November 19th this year. We received the invitation yesterday."

As he spoke, Li Qiuliang placed the envelope on Wu Yun’s desk.

Wu Yun took the invitation, opened it, and saw his own name printed inside.
