Red looked at the piles, realizing that he might have enough to reach level 16. He definitely had enough if each stat required sixteen to nineteen cores. He still had a big pile of Might and Magic Cores.
He realized how smart it was to exchange all the bodies for loot before absorbing them. If there was a kobold that was lower than level 13, then he would not get the cores for them. He realized that exchanging them all for loot first worked in his favor.
For the following absorption, it took eighteen cores for Strength, Vitality, and Endurance to reach the threshold. This time it took him sixteen cores for Dexterity to reach the threshold, two fewer cores than the previous level.
In the end, everything was about luck. If luck was on his side, it would take him sixteen cores. If luck was not on his side, then it would take nineteen. He didn’t think much about it since the gap was minimal.
On top, he still had one big corpse, the big slithering beast that died to the kobolds. He kept it for last because he didn’t worry about getting higher than the beast.
Then he proceeded with his Magic Cores. It took sixteen cores for his Intelligence and Mind to reach the threshold, seventeen cores for his Wisdom, and eighteen cores for his Arcane Perception.
[You have reached level 15!]
Red had a wide grin as he read the notification. It never crossed his mind that he would reach level 15. He thought he would reach level 14 at most. He seemed to be still underestimating his absorption rate.
The Magic Core pile was decreasing. He might not have enough to reach level 16 relying on the inferior cores, but he still had his Mediocre Cores. He had twenty-four Mediocre Magic Cores, and that might be enough to reach level 16 if he used them all along with the inferior cores.
He repeated the process, prioritizing the Might Cores first. Luck was not on his side; it took him nineteen cores for his Strength and Vitality to reach threshold, and it took him eighteen cores for Endurance and Dexterity to reach threshold.
His Might Stat reached the threshold to reach level 16, and he didn’t have to use his Mediocre Might Stat.
"That’s good enough..."
Now he turned toward the small pile of Magic Cores. He was contemplating how to absorb them, and he figured that he should use Mediocre Quality Cores first. That was to avoid wasting his Mediocre Cores when he was close to the threshold.
Red had his status open when he absorbed the Mediocre Cores. He stopped when his Magic Stats were close to the threshold.
[Tier 1 Magic]
Intelligence: 234.2 Wisdom: 234.4 Arcane Perception: 233 Mind: 233.4
He still had two more Mediocre Magic Cores, but he didn’t use them. If those two Mediocre Magic Cores increased his Intelligence and Wisdom, that would be wasting his good core.
Each mediocre core value was above a 1.2 increase, so he didn’t want to have an excess. He switched to the inferior cores once his Magic Stats were close to the threshold. He had thirty-four Magic Cores, and that should be enough to get him to level 16.
[You have reached level 16!]
He reached level 16 after absorbing ten extra Inferior Magic Cores. He could not help but grin ear to ear. It was still unbelievable to him that he managed to reach level 16. It could be said it was his luck to encounter the kobolds fighting those two slithering beasts.
Red took a deep breath for a moment. To his surprise, Levelheaded was triggered, forcing him to calm down from his excitement. This was not the first time that he was this excited and happy, yet this was the first time that his skill was triggered to calm him from excitement.
He was always excited and happy when he had intimate times with Darla, but the skill was never triggered in that moment.
"Weird..." He muttered, shaking his head.
He focused back on his excess cores. There were still eleven Inferior Might Cores, twenty-four Inferior Magic Cores, eighteen Mediocre Might Cores, and two Mediocre Magic Cores.
The Storage Pouch could not keep them all, as he only had three slots if he took his sword out. He wished the pouch was bigger. There was no way he would throw his food just to save the core. He might as well absorb the core.
Red thought of saving them for Darla, but then this was the first day. The war was not over, and he could get more cores for Darla later. That was it; he made the decision to absorb them all.

He felt like he still underestimated how much he could get from the Mediocre Cores. His Strength and Dexterity already reached the threshold with just eleven Inferior Might Cores and eighteen Mediocre Might Cores. His Endurance was close to the threshold as well, and his Vitality was halfway to the threshold.
He still needed to work with the Magic Stats, but twenty-four Inferior Magic Cores and two Mediocre Magic Cores pushed his Intelligence to the threshold. He just needed one Inferior Magic Core, and then it would reach the threshold.
His Arcane Perception was halfway, and he needed ten to twelve Inferior Magic Cores for his Mind and Wisdom. Overall, he was more than satisfied, surprised.
He never imagined that he would jump to level 16 in one go like this. But it was not over yet. There was still one grand prize for him, the dead beast.
Red turned toward the dead beast, which was pinned down to the ground with five swords on its head. There was this conflicting feeling stirred in him. Thanks to this beast, he managed to kill all those kobolds and reaped the massive reward. That was not going to happen without their contribution.
He chuckled, "What are you thinking about? That thing will eat you if it’s alive."
