Red looked at his status again, and he smiled again. His Magic Stat caught up to his Might Stat with the blessing. The +5 to all Magic Stats was still a mystery to him.
He thought it was because he chose the Might and Magic Path, but that didn’t make sense. It should apply to Might as well since it was the Might and Magic Path. It was a mystery that he could not figure out no matter how long and how much he thought about it.
Red shook his head and headed toward the dead beast. It was time for his main prize.
The partner left it behind, a sound decision considering this one was bigger. On top, the beast needed to protect its children as well. As the one who benefited most from this event, he had nothing to complain about. He took it as his reward for helping them out of the kobold’s encirclement.
He stood in front of the big head that was reaching his chest. Its head was wider than him, and he could see himself getting swallowed by it in one gulp. He directed his right hand toward the beast and willed his intention for loot.
There was this excitement in his head, but he quickly calmed down. He reminded himself that he was not the one who killed the beast. The reward from the loot would be less if he didn’t kill it himself.
The skill scroll, skill books, and class stone. He got them by killing his enemy with his own hand. This beast was killed by the kobold, and he didn’t even contribute.
The beast glowed for a moment before bursting into light particles that quickly dispersed. His eyes darted around, trying to find his loot. That was when he found a skill book and five cores.
His excitement spiked, thinking that he might get a set of skills that would help him in the upcoming war. His hand quickly snatched the skill book from the ground.
[Book of Mana Smith IV!]
[Do you want to learn the Book of Mana Smith IV?]
That was the continuation of his previous skill book, but there was something wrong. He hadn’t gotten Book of Mana Smith III, yet he got the next version. The confusion lasted for a moment before he decided to learn the skill book anyway. He knew this skill book was meant for him since he had learned the previous two.
The skill book burst into light particles as the notification showed up before his eyes. He learned three new skills like the previous skill book.
[You have learned Rune Weaving - Level 1!]
[You have learned Rune Engraving - Level 1!]
[You have learned Rune Restoration - Level 1!]
Red opened his status once more, checking the tier of the skills. He was surprised that all his new three skills were on Tier 4. That was considered a high-tier skill, but he knew those skills were not combat skills based on the previous skills he had learned.
Another piece of bad news was that he didn’t understand any of them. This was the first time he had heard about runes. The only thing that made sense to him was Rune Restoration. It meant the skill was used to restore a rune, but what was a rune? He felt like understanding runes was the most important thing if he ever wanted to use the skill.
[Rune Weaving: The Mana Smith’s art of drawing and combining runes to form enchantment!]
[Rune Engraving: The Mana Smith’s ability to engrave and activate runes on items!]
[Rune Restoration: The Mana Smith’s ability to restore runes!]
Red already expected that he might not understand a single thing about the skill, and yet it still frustrated him. The main issue was the fact that he didn’t know anything about runes. How could he draw or combine runes if he didn’t know what a rune was?
He let out a sigh and consoled himself that this rune thing was powerful since the skills were at tier 4.
"Let’s take it slow... Maybe I can figure out something later..."
He put aside the rune business and glanced at the five cores, and he quickly noticed how the cores were slightly bigger than the Mediocre Quality Cores, and the color was even more vibrant. It was noticeable, but he was too focused on his skill book earlier to notice the difference.
Red realized that these five cores might be better quality than the mediocre ones. He snatched one Might Core and used Appraisal on it.
[High Quality Might Core!]
His eyes brightened after the initial disappointment about the rune. The Mediocre Quality Core gave him a 1.2 to 2 increase in his stat, so he was excited imagining what a High Quality Core could give him.
There were four more lying down in front of him: two Might Cores and three Magic Cores. He did a mental calculation. If the mediocre quality gave him a 1.2 to 2 increase, then this High Quality Core might give him at least a 2 to 3 increase in his stat.
Red opened his status to check his stat again. His Might Stat was close to the next threshold. His Magic Stat still needed more cores. However, his Intelligence stat was so close to the threshold, just one or two Inferior Magic Cores to reach the threshold.
"It would be a waste to use them right now..." He muttered.
"Next level. Once I reach level 17, then I can use them without wasting them..."
With that in mind, he stored the five cores. One High Quality Core might be worth five to six inferior cores. But of course, he needed to kill such a powerful beast to get them. That was the problem. He would not be able to kill them.
The kobolds sent an army, over one hundred kobolds and thirty-four Elite Kobold Fighters. He would not be able to kill one by himself.
On top of that, this beast was over level 40 for sure, or might be level 50 or even above level 60, considering it took a lot of Elite Kobold Fighters that were thirty levels above him.
