"System, activate Astral Projection."
[Astral Projection activated.]
The familiar sensation of his soul being stretched returned once again, as though his consciousness were being pulled away from his physical body. A moment later, Liam opened his eyes and found himself floating within the endless darkness of space.
He remained still for a moment before turning around.
Far behind him was his own body, an enormous planet silently drifting through the void. From this distance, its size became difficult to comprehend, and Liam couldn’t help but stare at the world that was, in every sense, his physical form.
"So this is what I look like?"
He floated farther away, watching his planet gradually become smaller in the distance.
"I can imagine a future where spaceships are floating around here." The thought amused him.
Liam then opened the chatroom.
RedRings: I just activated Astral Projection. It’s kind of eerie seeing myself from outside.
Lynx: Same here.
A moment later, another message appeared.
Lynx: Can we now visit each other’s planets? Or bodies?
X_X: I guess so. I can give permission to anyone who wants to visit mine.
Liam glanced at the conversation for a moment before closing the chatroom.
If Astral Projection allowed him to freely travel through space, then there was something far more interesting he wanted to discover. There could be another player’s planet nearby, or perhaps there were other planetary players who existed beyond the range of their current chatroom.
With that thought, Liam began floating farther into the darkness.
He first approached several nearby planets, inspecting them from a distance. Thankfully, every one of them appeared to be completely lifeless, with barren surfaces and hostile environments that showed no signs of intelligent life.
Still, Liam continued onward.
His own planet gradually became smaller behind him until it eventually resembled nothing more than a tiny speck of dust among the countless stars. The sight gave him a strange feeling, as though he were finally seeing just how insignificant a single world could appear within the vastness of the universe.
Then he noticed another planetary system.
Several planets revolved around a distant star, immediately catching Liam’s attention. He opened the chatroom once again.
RedRings: I found a planetary system. I’ll check if there’s something here.
He closed the chatroom and moved deeper into the system.
One of the planets immediately caught his attention.
It was a world dominated almost entirely by land, with enormous mountain ranges stretching across its continents and vast deserts covering much of its surface. Water was surprisingly scarce, with only a handful of lakes and narrow rivers scattered across the otherwise dry landscape.
Yet despite its harsh environment, the planet was far from lifeless.
Liam descended closer, allowing his astral form to pass through the atmosphere without resistance. As the surface grew clearer, he noticed countless small green creatures moving across the land.
At first glance, they looked like ordinary goblins.
However, the longer Liam observed them, the more obvious it became that these creatures possessed intelligence. They had constructed settlements, developed roads between communities, organized trade, and even established groups of merchants that traveled across the dangerous deserts carrying various resources.
Liam immediately opened the chatroom.
RedRings: Whose planet is this? It’s dominated by goblins.
The response arrived almost immediately.
X_X: That would be mine.
Another message followed.
X_X: So we’re probably the closest neighbors, considering how close you are to me.
RedRings: I guess so. You may visit mine next time.
After a little more conversation, Liam closed the chatroom and continued his journey.
He traveled farther through the darkness, passing countless stars before another planetary system eventually appeared before him. This one looked strangely familiar, containing vast oceans, large continents, forests, mountain ranges, and rivers that stretched across the surface.
As Liam approached the planet, he began noticing several familiar races.
He immediately opened the chatroom.
DrDiagnosis: It’s crazy how we’re all different in some ways.
Liam looked down at the planet for another moment before replying.
RedRings: I think I just found your planet, Lynx. You mentioned that you only have four races.
Lynx: Ah... glad you visited mine.
After a brief conversation between the players, Liam closed the chatroom and continued deeper into space.
Another planetary system eventually appeared in the distance. However, the moment Liam entered its vicinity, something strange began happening.
Pieces of metal debris floated through space around him.
At first, he assumed they were fragments of asteroids, but upon closer inspection, their unnatural shapes made it obvious that they had once belonged to something constructed. Twisted metal, shattered structures, and countless fragments drifted silently through the system as though an enormous disaster had torn something apart.
Liam continued deeper into the system and inspected each planet.
Then he found it. One planet had a gigantic hole carved through its surface, while much of its remaining land was covered in glowing molten rock. Rivers of magma flowed across its surface, pouring through enormous cracks that stretched across the planet like wounds.
He immediately opened the chatroom.
RedRings: I found a dead planet.. But how could this be possible? How did he die when our progress isn’t even in the modern age?
A response soon appeared.
DrDiagnosis: I also found one.
DrDiagnosis: Mine is split in half.
Liam’s expression gradually became serious.
There were supposed to be six members in their chatroom.
Yet only four of them were currently speaking.
He turned toward the destroyed planet and contacted his system.
"System, what happened to this planet, and who is this?"
The system remained silent for several seconds before a notification appeared.
[Planet #1345.]
[Planet #1345 attempted to create excessively overpowered abilities.]
[Using Consciousness Override, Planet #1345 repeatedly attempted to accelerate the technological development of its inhabitants toward the modern era.]
[Planet #1345 repeatedly utilized Genetic Modification in an attempt to create a race approaching godhood.]
[Planet #1345 was a player with a scientific background and the supposed sixth member of the Player Interaction Chatroom.]
Liam stared at the notification.
So there had been another player.
He opened the chatroom once again.
RedRings: The planet in front of me with a massive hole through its body seems to have been punished by the universe after attempting to create a godhood-like race, according to my system.
The chatroom remained silent for several seconds before DrDiagnosis responded.
DrDiagnosis: This planet, on the other hand, was punished for doing immoral things to his creations. My system said that he created a single divine-looking race with perfect features and the ability to give birth to ten children at a time.
DrDiagnosis: He reportedly repeatedly assaulted them until the universe decided to eliminate them and end their suffering.
Liam stared at the message.
Lynx: What the fuck...
A second message quickly followed.
Lynx: There are people like that?
The conversation fell silent for a moment.
Then X_X sent another message.
X_X: As for me, I found the supposed fifth member of the chatroom.
X_X: I tried asking my system what happened to him, but it won’t give me any information.
Another message appeared.
X_X: It seems like he was killed by another player. I can see his body, and it has multiple holes through it, as if he was attacked by a laser or something similar.
Liam remained silent.
The excitement he had felt while exploring the universe had gradually disappeared. What had initially seemed like an endless frontier filled with unexplored worlds had suddenly revealed something far darker
