Chapter 939: Chapter 939: Make Haste To Godhood

"...Let’s just say that your doors to Divine Salvation are not closed, not yet.

On the contrary, the doors are wide open..."

"What do you mean?" Star was now very interested.

Mortality smiled, he leaned back slightly and looked to the sky with those ordinary eyes of his.

At some point, his hair had changed completely to white. Or maybe, it had always been white from the very start. No one knew and no one would ever know.

"The Highest Will needs energy to wipe out the universe. His own power is not enough, so he has been drawing on power from the universe and accumulating enough of it for that day to come.

While he is doing this, he must also shake off some of his obligations to the universe.

Many of his laws have been dissolved, preventing the progress of many talented individuals.

In fact, because of this, you should expect to see brother Change in the future," Mortality said with a longing sigh.

"Really?" Star tilted her head, also surprised, "How is he coming back? Didn’t the Highest Will keep him imprisoned in his own realm?"

Mortality nodded his head, "Yeah, but he might get out. From what I know, that golden lion is involved.

He has caused quite a ruckus but it’s not as bad as what the Highest Will is trying to do. He’s the lesser evil in this case."

Star was silent, trying to process what she just heard. If Change was being set free, then it was definitely a long story that needed some explanation.

How did things even get to that point?

And it also meant that someone was able to force his or her way into Myriad Heaven in the first place.

She didn’t know how it was being done but she had heard something similar happened in Original Heaven.

Both events were tied to that golden lion.

How interesting.

"You know what this means right?" Mortality asked, taking a step closer to her

His shoes easily tapped on the cooler and darkened lava as he looked down on Star, staring into her eyes.

"Not all the laws are down yet but many are being dropped as I speak.

Right now, you can leave through the Outerverse without fear of consequences. Even the Ancient Defenders, the Primordial Tortoise and Turtle, have been freed from their obligations.

Soon, the locks on all those heavens will be gone. The lock on Stellar Heaven will be gone, Star.

You will be able to access your birthright. You will be able to deliver salvation to yourself.

You will be able to become a god!"

With his hand still in his pocket, Mortality began to pace around Star, deliberately not looking at her but at his surroundings.

"But..." Star’s brain was sharp. Things shouldn’t be this easy and there must be consequences.

"Smart girl," Mortality smirked, his voice soothing like the voice of the first deceiver

"True, you can expect anything," Mortality continued, "The rule that prevents people from easily entering ownerless heavens is also the rule that stops them from reaching the divine tier.

And that is just a few rules that the Highest Will put in place, for a very good reason, mind you.

The Highest Will is not the bad guy here. He never was. Sure, he’s a heartless piece of thick skin but the universe was always one of his highest priorities.

And you all will see that as more rules are dropped and dissolved, hahaha," Mortality suddenly let out a dark laugh.

Star turned around fast to see that Mortality was backing her, hand still in his pockets, and a head filled with pitch-black hair.

As it should be and as it had always been since they knew him to be who he was.

Like the endless cycle of life and death...

Star frowned, "But there’s a chance for me right? Please tell me there’s a chance. That’s why you came to tell me, right?"

Mortality nodded his head, "Of course, there’s a chance for you. Just like how there is now a chance for everyone.

Before, you needed to be outside the universe or in that lion’s Alphaverse to be able to evade the Highest Will’s rules.

But not all creatures are in the Alphaverse. There’s still far too many inhabiting the endless void of this place we call home.

Think about it, Star.

The rule that the Highest Will made to keep the creatures within the universe was not out of pettiness. It’s the same rule that was used on Original Heaven and Myriad Heaven.

Unfortunately, that rule was meant to keep the things outside our universe from coming in, the things of the Other Law.

The beings of the Otherverses.

That we were trapped here was just a necessity.

But now, people can leave if they want to. Do you think those outside cannot come in?"

Star knew the answer. It was a very bad answer.

"Yes, you know it. You saw it and you saw how it made Change Mad, curious, not himself.

He was still Change, just not for the right reasons, not the change we knew anymore.

And if it is like that with just that rule alone, then it is like that with every other rule.

Expect the limit on the populations to go away. Trillions upon quadrillions will rise from a single race, I can already feel their births.

Things that should not happen will happen, you may even lose your Singularity. Not sure, but there is the possibility.

We don’t really know how many bad things the rules of the Highest Will had been holding back and we won’t know until it is all gone.

You know what they say, you don’t really value something until you don’t have it anymore."

Star shook her head, "This is bad!"

"I know,"

"No, I mean, this is bad for all of us,"

"I said I know," Mortality turned around, his eyebrows raised and his ordinary eyes gazing at Star.

"He’s going to wipe it all out anyway, so it’s no issue.

Besides, we gods are a little safe for now. Kind of.

The fall of the restrictions means that we too would soon be able to leave. He hasn’t really asked for anything yet either.

However, the Highest Will is going to do what he said he would do. Nothing can stop it.

It’s not about trying to stop him. It’s about making sure that even if he does do it, you will survive.

That’s mostly what any of our grand schemes are about. Survival.

It is a race for survival.

Nobody knows how much longer the Highest Will needs to take. But they will come suddenly.

It could take a year, it could take a hundred years, it could take a few more, it could happen tomorrow.

Either way, you must rush and make haste, Star. You must rush to the Divine Tier as fast as you can because that is the only way to guarantee a chance of survival.

Not by some flimsy promise where you are still a pawn, but as a holder of power by yourself.

You lost. You didn’t kill the All-King. Maybe that is a good thing. We all lose fights at some point in our life.

But you didn’t die, you get to live to see how it all ends.

That is a blessing as much as its own punishment..."

Mortality paused.

Star sensed something. No, she heard something. In his voice.

A crack.

That was wrong. That SHOULD be wrong. Gods don’t make such vocal mistakes unless it is calculated.

And they rarely have a reason to pretend like they are crying.

On a much closer look, she saw that Mortality’s eyes were trembling. It was very minuscule but it could be seen with her enhanced vision.

His face was calm and his smile looked very genuine, but those eyes had somehow given it away.

With this, Star was able to interpret two things.

Firstly, this was Mortality’s true body. That is, this wasn’t a clone that he sent to Star. This was his Original body, compressed into this humanoid form.

She only noticed it now and looked at his hair. Although she hardly remembered, she knew that the hair and feathers of the original body would sometimes change to symbolize the birth and death of all things.

Right now, his hair is white. She couldn’t remember if it was black at all. But something just told her within her heart that this was the original body of the Stork God.

Secondly, Star perceived that Mortality was currently experiencing some very strong feelings and he was doing a good job hiding it.

No one would be able to detect the inner thoughts of a god, even Star couldn’t. But old habits die hard, and they seldom die when it comes to the living personification of Laws.

She knew Mortality before he even became a god. This habit of hiding his emotions with a chill face was standard, but he had never been able to perfect the masking of his eyes.

Not unless he closed them.

And he couldn’t close them, not today, not unless he wanted to sleep and take away a key law that made the universe run the way it was.

Mortality blinked.

Star blinked too.

Millions of creatures were born in that very instant as countless stars were extinguished after millions of years of burning bright.

"Are you...scared?" Star asked, taking a step out of the cooled lava that had turned into dark igneous rock.

The god of Mortality? Scared? Of what?

"Yes, Star," Mortality admitted. There was no need to lie, "That’s why I want you to be quick.

Please.

The more gods there are to stand their ground, the more we can all survive together.

The Highest Will will succeed, it doesn’t mean we don’t have a chance to survive. We just have to be strong...all of us."
