Chapter 943: Chapter 943: There Is No Harmony
The Primordial Tortoise looked at his friend again. This time, it was as if he were looking at an idiot.
It felt like he was staring at a complete buffoon.
However, he didn’t say anything this time. Instead, he silently noted the absurdity of what his friend was saying and continued to think.
That was when a light bulb went on inside his head.
Yes, he remembered correctly.
Although the act of forgetting survival in favor of an ideology was not common, it wasn’t rare either as there were a few logical reasons.
Parents protecting their young could abandon their survival. Or if the ideology they were fighting for was very strong and also the source of their meaning, they wouldn’t care about their survival.
An example was Ma’abu, Exalon, and Ibadon.
There was a long list of people who had abandoned their desire for survival to pursue their ideologies but those were entirely logical.
But there were also those that just didn’t make any sense, those that could not explain why they no longer cared about their life.
Those like Derylia...and Change...
Once the Primordial Tortoise connected the dots in his head, he didn’t say anything. His face was perfectly calm as he continued to listen to his friend.
But a profound wave of sadness washed over him as he sighed. He didn’t want to believe it but the more his friend talked, the more it became a reality.
He was talking nonsense.
The same way Derylia had prioritized her life experience and love over her entire race, and the same way Change had just changed...
Derylia had literally walked into a trap knowing fully well that she didn’t like where she was going in her last moments. And Change...he was something else that could not even be understood.
They never had any logical reason why they did these things. They had a reason, the reason was just never a good one.
"What do you think will happen next?" Asked the Primordial Tortoise as he looked at his friend with a much more gentle gaze.
How could he still maintain his annoyance? Not anymore.
"What? I don’t understand," The Primordial Turtle asked and looked at his friend too. They didn’t face the front to look at where they were flying towards but as long as they were flying together, they were safe.
"What happens after we tell them? What happens after they all decide to fight back and we join them?" The Primordial Tortoise asked. He folded his large arms in front of his body and listened.
"Well..." The Primordial Turtle began to speak.
He spoke of a dream, of a reality where there would be nothing to fear and nothing to be ashamed of.
He spoke of a unity, all creatures acting as one singular super organism. During his speech, the only time he showed a hint of his fierce expression was when he talked about the potential resistance.
The All-King, the Highest Will, those were elements that could hinder the great Harmony.
And when he said it, the sadness in The Primordial Turtle’s heart knew no bounds.
Harmony?
"My friend, wait," The Primordial Tortoise said as he began to slow down. The stream of stars that flowed around them began to stabilize and become more visible.
The Primordial Turtle also stopped, showing genuine concern as he turned to look at his ancient friend.
They hovered in the void together, legs out together and arms apart.
The Primordial Tortoise had his own arms ending in a fist, as if he was always ready to fight. That was how he had been flying all this while.
The Primordial Turtle on the other hand looked rather easygoing and his smile was way wider than usual. His hands were free and his shoulders were laid back. Even his pot belly was pushed out further.
He felt in sync with complete harmony.
"I’m so sorry," The Primordial Tortoise said as he looked down, a look of sadness washing over his face.
The Primordial Turtle now looked very confused. What was going on?
"Why are you apologizing?" He asked.
"They got to you," The Primordial Tortoise said, slumping his shoulders. He looked down, trying to hide his sorrowful expression but it was very hard to do so.
He continued, "I thought you would not have been exposed, but maybe I was wrong.
It’s unmistakable..."
"What are you even saying? Let’s go right now..." The Primordial Turtle said with an uncomfortable smile. He didn’t know why his friend was acting weird all of a sudden.
He leaned forward, hovering close to the large man. Just when the Primordial Turtle raised his hand to place it on his friend’s shoulder...
"No..."
The Primordial Tortoise’s hand shot up, catching the wrist of his friend before it could be placed on his shoulder.
"I’m sorry!" He said, and immediately acted. The fist of the Primordial Tortoise shot forward fast, breaking through the void and landing squarely on the latter’s face.
*BOOM!*
The strength contained within the punch of the Primordial Tortoise was immense, sending the Primordial Turtle flying faster than the speed of light.
The Primordial Tortoise didn’t chase, he didn’t pursue his friend.
Meanwhile, after flying for a few light-years, the Primordial Turtle spread out his hands and immediately stopped flying.
His face was still kind and soft. Although the smile was gone, one could see the hesitation and confusion in his eyes.
"What’s gone wrong with you?"
The Primordial shook his head, "You’ve already been corrupted by the Other Law. The so-called Harmony.
There is no such thing as Harmony, you of all people should have known that.
Don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about...
You should have sensed it too, the change in your thought patterns..."
The Primordial Tortoise shrugged his shoulders, "But it doesn’t matter at the end of the day. You will die, but I wouldn’t be the one to kill you.
I cannot bear to watch you suffer to have such a mindset. But at the same time, I cannot bring myself to end your suffering..."
He sighed, raising his head to see his friend still staring at him with confusion. The Primordial Tortoise knew that that was how it would be.
Genuine confusion for what was considered logical was a very tell-tale sign of those infected by the Other Law.
"Just leave, go your own way, I’ll go my own way. Do whatever you want to do, I’ll do mine.
Hopefully, we both can get to the Divine Tier before we meet again..."
After saying that, the Primordial Tortoise turned around and flew in another direction.
His heart was heavy, incredibly so. His friend whom he had known since the Second Generation of Races. It pained him to see his friend exposed to such a thing.
Right now, it only seems harmless. But he knew that eventually, the corruption would put those around him in trouble. The same way it did for Derylia and the Lions, and Change with the gods.
Meanwhile, the Primordial Turtle was left standing in the empty void, still confused. Unaware of the creeping desire for harmony that was steadily rising within his mind.
