There were more than a few monster corpses in the city right now, mostly drakes, but also some of the first wave of flying monsters had made it inside. However, the focus was on the drakes that had made it inside the Academy walls, and the boars that had been stored, waiting to be processed.
The first few drakes went as expected, and all gave 2-3 System Points per corpse, depending on condition.
The first notable issue was when the first boar arrived.
{Armoured Boar Corpse} Partially Degraded.
{User Ineligible for turn in}
Kalli shrugged as the man gave her a confused look.
"I don’t think that you were a hero when it was killed, or you weren’t part of the quest to kill them. If you didn’t score any kills during that wave, you likely can’t claim the boar bodies for points."
"Got it, no kill stealing. You can turn that one in if you want, or I will grab someone from the lines."
"Get one of the rogues in the flight suits. They’re likely exhausted again, since they don’t have a full team to feed their guns. They can also help pull the boars in, since their suits move faster than a new hero on foot."
Kalli let the boar sit until the heroes in the flight suits arrived with more corpses for turn in, and then watched as the System crushed their hopes and dreams.
{Armoured Boar Corpse} Partially Degraded.
{Degraded corpses are worth 25 Percent of regular value. Please add more Armoured Boar corpses to make 1 Point in value}
"Damn, I guess leaving them out once the storage was full wasn’t a great idea. But we have more."
Another boar was added, and the machine was finally happy
{Value} 1 System Point
The boar was broken down into a much smaller than expected pile of meat, but the hides were intact. That seemed odd to Kalli, but perhaps the System had some sort of loss system based on how degraded the meat was?
Either way, it was salvaged bacon.
Kalli smiled at the group. "Alright, keep it coming. I’m still getting some pork from them, and the hides. We’ve got workshops to start after the battle, and they’re likely going to want some of this leather and the drake scales.
I don’t know if the other monsters have anything worth salvaging on them, but they might be worth points, and it might break down the armour on their bodies into raw materials.
We won’t know until we try, but we definitely need to start removing all these drake corpses, they’re all over the city at this point. Now that you can get points for them, do your best, but leave some for the other heroes.
Everyone needs the points, and we don’t want to cheat the ones who fought the hardest."
That was a good point. But there were more than enough to go around. By the time that they cleared the battlefield, they would have a true wealth of points unlike anything that they could have imagined only a few days earlier.
Slowly, the sound of drakes screaming and gunfire was slowing from outside, becoming sporadic as the last invaders either fled or died.
That marked the effective end of the battle, and word was spreading through the lines about the bounty that Kalli’s new reward would give them for corpses. Some were excited about the materials, others for the potential new items that didn’t cost points. But everyone was stoked for the rewards.
The heroes started to come in from the line, each dragging a body, and ready to turn in their quests.
Which presented Kalli with another issue.
With so many heroes coming back, she was going to end up with a truly astronomical number of points. Not just a little over her limit, there were all the kill count rewards, the rewards for holding the wall, and for charging defence turrets.
And then four waves of monster kills, which were Epic Grade.
With all these heroes, and the massive number of Level 0 members who also got at least some of those rewards, she was going to have to do something drastic to burn through points.
She realized that normally, these points would have come in a daily stream for an entire week, not in two massive lump sums over three days.
But that didn’t change the fact that she needed to spend them, and she only had a very limited blueprint for how to make a proper city. She did like the design that Professor Tymon had given her, though.
It incorporated walkways on the third level to connect all the buildings so that you could move freely between them if the weather were bad, or there were monsters outside.
With the way that the buildings were designed, that was in the commercial section, so you basically walked through shops and small factories to get where you wanted and then back to your tower.
It felt a lot like the hive city, if the hive city was new and designed for comfort, not cost-efficient warehousing of excess population.
She was also going to have to start moving materials to a warehouse because her Storage Realm was likely not going to be able to deal with all the monsters that they were bringing back.
Even processed, there were still plenty of useful parts to every monster.
Kalli raised her hand to get everyone’s attention and stop the rush. "Before we get too far, everyone who has a crafting or job related Skill or Class, let me know, so you can get a chance at a workshop. We need to start establishing the city’s core businesses.
The rest of the details will be worked out eventually, but I have a System option to furnish the shops for their first occupants. That means interiors and some limited tools. Once you’re set up, we can start working out how to get all the supplies that we need to keep the shops running.
Now that we have the turn in option for monster corpses, we will at least be able to get some materials that aren’t wood."
