Reincarnated As The Heroes Guide

Late that afternoon the heroes from the larger Arks began the pilgrimage into the city.

The heroes inside the city were preparing to receive them by creating nets out of tuber plant fibre rope. The heroes could climb up the city wall that way, instead of walking multiple kilometres around the city and crossing the river to get to the main gate of the outer wall.

It was a minor oversight in the design, having the only exit of the city facing away from the ocean. But it had made sense when there weren’t arks sitting between them and the water.

If the danger level was lower, they could make another exit, but for now just letting the heroes climb up the netting was easy enough.

"Kalli, we’re bringing them all to you.

They’ve already met you, and you’ve been selected to be the welcoming party for the newly arrived heroes, since you have all the residential vacancy lists. All the doors are biometric coded, and you’re the only one who can see all of them," Temple shouted from down the block.

"You know, you can come in and tell me," Kalli shouted back.

"And risk being that close?"

The big Paladin laughed, then turned and went back toward the new gym facility.

"Coward!" Kalli called after him, much to the amusement of the heroes who were jogging her way.

"I take it that you are Coordinator Kalli. We’ve met before, but I didn’t get your name the first time. Greetings from the Kalkan Fleet. Or, whatever it is that we are now. From what I can tell, we’re all merged into one force now, so we’ll be in your care."

Kalli laughed. "Alright. I will get you all set up with proper apartments. The Academy buildings have rooms more like hotel suites, or bachelor suites. Some have the bedroom separate, most have it combined with the living area.

All have their own private facilities.

The apartments outside the Academy walls come in multiple sizes, as they were designed for families as well as singles. However, the Academy buildings have the advantage that groups of heroes can stay near each other to build team spirit.

Most of our teams are already pretty solid, so I won’t expect you all to try to shuffle in somewhere.

But if you do find that you work well with a team, or someone from an existing team wants to move, there’s no rule against it. The standard is five to a team, including a tank type and a healer. But most missions are done in groups of ten, combining two teams.

We’re never short on warriors, and now we’re not too short on healers either, as we got an influx from an underwater base.

So, if there is anything that your people are short on, please let me know."

The hero sighed and made a pious gesture. "Miss Kalli, there isn’t anything that we’re NOT short on at this point. But I understand what you mean. Our class balance is actually very good, as the Kalkan Fleet worked hard to spread their heroes evenly before we left the shore.

It’s just a shame that the heroes on shore and the other two fleets didn’t fare as well."

Kalli frowned, "Did the Kalkan Navy not assign all the heroes to the Third Fleet?"

The man shook his head sadly. "No, they formed three fleets for them, plus a capital defence force. The Royal Academy that awakened within Kalka had a student population of well over twenty thousand.

The third fleet was only a tiny splinter fleet, the leftovers once the others were filled, and given obsolete equipment.

Who would have guessed that things would get so bad that the others would nearly immediately collapse once their advanced technology went offline? At the time that the fleet was formed, everyone assumed that the warning of an attack from beyond this world meant super advanced aliens of some sort, not monsters and magic.

They were completely unprepared for what came, as they had orbital cruise missiles and electronic countermeasures as their primary weapons.

We got what had been designed for fighting on land and sea, the equipment that hadn’t been specially modified for the battle ahead."

Kalli patted him on the shoulder. "I can see how that mistake would be made. I would have thought the same thing regarding the warning, as it’s the logical answer, given what we know of science.

This whole situation is insane, but we will get you all fully geared and ready to go before the next battle.

Six Epic Grade completion quests should have given you a fairly decent bit of gear already, but I can fill in the gaps, and get your people the same armour that the others use.

It’s the best we’ve found, and with the helmets, it’s the only one that can deal with toxic air.

Now, let’s get those quests turned in, and get you all uniformed."

"There are uniforms?"

"No. But everyone picks the same three pieces of armour, and nearly everyone picks black. So, they all look the same. Besides, I have been assured by the gentlemen of Marimgar Academy that looking the same means that they got it right."

A woman in the crowd laughed. "That’s definitely male logic. Nothing says success quite like turning out something exactly to plans, even if it’s about fashion. But on that note, do you have one of those cool power armour suits in yellow?

I’m a Berserker Class warrior, no magic to interfere with, but I want yellow."

"Done and done. Don’t forget to open your quest reward boxes."

As if they could actually be ignored, floating there in front of the heroes.

Some of them had already made their turn in, but most of the heroes got to open the mystery boxes in front of Kalli, who was taking notes of what was being given out for the Epic Grade Prizes.

Mostly weapons, some accessories. A few quality of life items, like a bedding set that had a passive healing effect and perfect temperature control.

That one nearly started a riot among the heroes.

Kalli also couldn’t replicate it. There were no blankets with healing in her store, though she had plenty that would provide climate control, even at the Uncommon Rank.

It seemed that the heroes really did have to work for their rewards.

And that meant she needed to place at least one more dungeon, in case the next trial wasn’t combat related.
