Ethan stood up after completing his last set of exercises for the morning. The sun hadn’t risen yet, and his family was still sleeping.

Standing bare-chested in the living room, he looked at the sweat slowly dripping down his body.

’This is insane. I’ve been exercising for up to two hours, yet I’m only starting to feel tired now.’

The Increased Stamina reward he had received several days ago left him reeling in amazement.

’Let’s see... what is today’s task again?’

Grabbing a towel, he headed to the bathroom while willing the system interface to pop up.

[Today’s Task: Personally feed your daughter her breakfast.]

[Reward: $10]

’Huh...’

Ethan shook his head and chuckled. The task was simple, and the reward looked a little ridiculous. However, he had no problem doing something so mundane.

’I don’t think I’ve ever fed her before. I guess that will be a first.’

He hung the towel and turned on the shower.

A few minutes later, he stepped out of the bathroom after drying his body and headed straight to the kitchen.

It was Saturday, and they weren’t rushing to go to the shop today. Instead of cooking something lavish, he decided to go with something simple and special.

Evelyn and Nora woke up to him cooking the jollof rice. The mother-daughter pair were already used to this sight, so they didn’t react much.

Still, Evelyn approached him and gave him a good-morning kiss on his cheek. Nora seemed to want to do the same, but she was too short so she settled for hugging his legs.

Ethan smiled and watched them go prepare themselves. By the time he was done cooking, they had taken their bath and appeared in new clothes.

He sat at the head of the table and said to Nora, while patting his thighs, "Come here."

The little girl was a little surprised, but complied and settled comfortably on his lap.

Ethan then pulled her plate towards him and took a spoonful for her to eat. He was immediately met with resistance.

"What? I’m not a kid!"

He didn’t agree. "You’re still a kid. Shouldn’t you be happy that I’m feeding you? Eat up."

Nora pouted but still opened her mouth and let him feed her. Deep inside, she was confused and wary. Why was he feeding her by himself?

He had stopped doing that ever since she turned five. Now, he was doing it again. She tried to think of any motive behind his actions, but she found none.

’Whatever.’

Still feeling grumpy, she continued to frown as she ate.

Evelyn watched them and smiled to herself. ’They look good together. I’m so happy.’

Turning away to hide her smile, she focused on eating.

After feeding Nora all her food, Ethan finally released her and gave her a juice box as a reward for being obedient.

Her eyes lit up, and she smiled. "Thank you!"

He nodded and began eating his own food. The task had been completed, and the moment he claimed the reward, his phone lit up.

A credit of ten dollars came in from a mysterious account, and he shook his head with a smile.

’Really. What do I use ten dollars for?’

Before he could dwell on the thought, his phone rang. It was a call from Lucas, and he answered after a few seconds of staring.

"Good morning, Lucas."

The older man replied enthusiastically, "Good morning, Brother Ethan. Did you sleep well?"

Ethan rolled his eyes. "Please, I’m a married man and not a young lady. Why did you call?"

Lucas burst into laughter, then hurriedly stopped himself by clearing his throat.

"Ahem, it’s about the house you asked for. I already found a few that would be great for you and I want you to take a look."

"Is that so?" Ethan slowly nodded. "Alright. I’ll let you know when to meet up."

"Understood. See you later, Brother Ethan."

"Mn, mn."

Ethan placed his phone back onto the table and turned to Evelyn. She was already looking at him curiously.

"Lucas said he has gotten a few houses over there, so I’m going to look. Do you want to tag along?"

Evelyn thought about it, then nodded. "We’re not going to be opening at the shop today, then. I guess I’ll take it as my day off."

Nora discarded the empty juice box in the wastebasket and asked. "Am I coming too?"

Ethan turned to her with a smile. "Of course, you are. Or do you want to stay at home?"

Nora shook her head. "No! I want to come with you guys."

Inwardly, she thought, ’Although he seems to be good for now, I can’t fully trust him yet. I have to keep an eye on them. Sadly, there’s not much I can do at this point.’

Ethan quickly finished the food in his plate and went to the kitchen to wash all the plates. Once he was done, he picked up his phone and called Lucas. "Meet us at the junction of the market. We’ll be there in a few minutes."

After dropping the call, he turned to Evelyn. "Are you ready?"

She nodded, already neatly dressed in a yellow blouse and a floral royal blue skirt.

Ethan admired her for a moment, then turned away.

’I’m liking this woman a lot. Besides, I can’t choose a dead woman over her.’

If Cynthia was still alive in his own time, he wouldn’t have felt moved or attracted to Evelyn at all. However, the void in his heart, left by his deceased fiancee, was being slowly filled by this woman.

"Ethan?"

Her voice snapped him out of his thoughts, and he realized he was already patting her head. Her black eyes looked at him in confusion as she blinked innocently.

He smiled.

"Let’s go."

They quickly locked the door and walked to the main road where a familiar black limousine had been parked. When they got close, the driver came out and opened the back door.

Lucas waved at them from the inside. "Brother Ethan, come in, come in. Let’s all go on this trip."

Again, Ethan smiled. He hadn’t noticed it yet, but the cold, ruthless, and vengeful CEO of the Caldwell Business Empire was slowly becoming a man who finally understood what having a family meant.
