Once they were inside the vehicle, Lucas took out his tablet and showed it to Ethan.
"These are the pictures of the modest houses I picked. I don’t know which one would suit your taste more."
Ethan took the tablet from him and checked through. Unlike what Lucas had said, there was nothing modest about the houses. Each one was built and styled luxuriously, looking imposing and grand.
Ethan rolled his eyes. ’This man is really used to wealth.’
He checked through all the twenty buildings Lucas had picked and finally settled on a less luxurious one.
It was a three-storey apartment building with a large compound, a garden, and a parking lot.
"This," He said, showing it to Lucas.
The man raised an eyebrow. "This? It’s not really designed for a single family. The building is more suited to an extended family living together. Unless you want to have tenants, of course."
Ethan nodded. "Tenants are fine. Besides, the building is simple enough."
Lucas’s lips twitched. "Brother Ethan, you really don’t want anything flashy, do you? A little wealth doesn’t hurt, you know?"
"I’m aware of that." Ethan shrugged. "But I prefer something simple for now. Unless Evelyn wants something better than that."
He turned to his wife who had been listening to them.
She shook her head and smiled. "I actually agree with Ethan. I don’t really like things that draw too much attention."
"Ha-ha, alright." Lucas laughed dryly. "I’ll call the agent and have him meet us there."
Ethan nodded and leaned against Evelyn’s shoulder, closing his eyes and relaxing. The young woman was surprised, but she didn’t resist.
Instead, she smiled and played with his hair while Nora eyed them with a subtle expression.
The ride to Cold River District took only thirty minutes. The limousine drove into the district before stopping outside a beautiful gate.
The driver immediately opened the door, and the four of them came out.
Ethan looked around, nodding. "This place is quiet. I like it."
Lucas smiled and explained. "It’s not really a popular district, so not many people live or visit here."
"I like it too." Evelyn spoke up. "Though I wonder if I’ll be able to get customers for my business."
Ethan held her hand and said mysteriously. "You shouldn’t worry about that. There will be more than enough customers."
Evelyn nodded and put it at the back of her mind. Meanwhile, Lucas’s eyes narrowed. ’Does he know something? This man is really a mystery. He seemed very specific about this Cold River District. Hmm, I’d better be on the lookout.’
Soon, a chubby man came through the beautiful gate and approached them with a flattering smile.
"Mr. Stark! It’s a pleasure to meet you again. Are you here to check the apartment?"
Lucas nodded, his expression calm and composed. "Yes. Take us in."
The chubby man glanced at Ethan’s family and immediately understood. ’They’re the ones who are actually here to check. Does Mr. Stark want to buy for them? What good fortune!’
He immediately turned to them and smiled. "Hello, sir and ma’am. You can address me as Reynold. Please, follow me."
He immediately led them into the large compound, showing them around the place.
Nora was quickly captivated by the beautiful garden, seeing the sparsely planted trees, neatly trimmed flowers, and colorful butterflies fluttering through the air.
"Wahhh! It’s so beautiful."
Reynold chuckled. "Of course, it is. The owner of this property built it with beauty in mind. I honestly haven’t come across another property this charming."
Ethan nodded with a smile as he looked around. Evelyn was also impressed, having a beautiful smile on her face.
"Let me show you to the building itself."
They headed to the apartment complex that stood imposingly at the center of the compound. They entered the first apartment on the ground floor.
It had a spacious living room, three bedrooms—each with its own bathroom—a kitchen, two storage rooms, and a rear veranda perfect for relaxing in the evening.
"The layout is the same for the floor above. Only the top floor is a bit different," Reynold explained as they stood in the living room.
Lucas stood to the side, his gaze scanning the place. He seemed uncomfortable with the lack of luxury and the plainness of the living room.
"Are there no furnitures? Why does this place look so bland?"
Reynold stiffened at the question and quickly explained. "Ah... you see, the owner actually wasn’t able to go that far. He had just finished building it and hadn’t had time to furnish it when something happened with his family."
"It’s fine," Ethan cut in. "It’s better this way. I’ll handle the decorations and furnishings by myself."
Lucas shrugged while Reynold looked relieved.
"Come, let me show you to the second floor."
The five people climbed the stairs and went to the second floor. Just like Reynold had said, the place was identical to the ground floor in terms of layout.
Just like the first one, it was a little plain with only cemented walls around them. None of the rooms had been painted yet. Lucas seemed a bit displeased but didn’t say anything.
After all, Ethan and Evelyn weren’t complaining.
Reynold wiped the sweat from his forehead with his sleeve. ’I hope they buy this place. It’s taking too long already.’
He turned to Ethan and smiled. "Let’s move to the top floor. It’s a bit more special than the first two."
Ethan raised an eyebrow, then nodded. "Alright. Let’s go."
They climbed the stairs again and got on the top floor.
"So, this one is a little special because it only has two bedrooms and one storage room. The space originally intended for the third bedroom had been converted into an open-air balcony. Come take a look."
He quickly led them there, opening the glass door as they stepped into the balcony.
"Oh?" Ethan let out a sound, impressed. The balcony was strategically oriented toward the east, allowing it to receive the morning sunlight.
’Which means it’ll be the perfect place to relax in the evening.’
Lucas seemed to realize the same thing and nodded in approval.
"This is actually good," He said. "You can have a small garden here with some flowers and cover the whole place with a glass roof. It’ll look amazing, I must admit."
Evelyn’s eyes lit up as she imagined it, and a smile appeared on her face. "I like it, Ethan."
He nodded and turned to Reynold.
"In that case, we’ll be buying this place." He smiled thinly. "Let’s discuss the price."
