As Maximilian and Evangeline’s eyes fell upon the spectacle beyond the glass of the control room, they were left flabbergasted, neither of them uttering a word.
The very spaceship that Maximilian had seen in his memories was in front of them, lying at the centre of a thousand-kilometre-wide crater at an angle of about sixty degrees. Its lower half was pierced into the ground. The horizontal arms of the plus-shaped structure stretched to both sides as far as the eye could see. As for the vertical part, even though the crater was over fifty kilometres deep and half of the spaceship lay even deeper, one half of the vertical section was piercing through the grey mist high in the air.
Naturally, it was covered in thick layers of dust, and several of its parts were buried beneath rocks and debris.
"Th-this was the craftsmanship of our ancestors," Evangeline finally managed to speak, taking in the scenery with a gulp. "Their civilisation was thousands, if not millions of years ahead of us."
"Yet they were driven out of their own home world," Maximilian added, his tone serious. "We might be the most powerful beings here, but out there, we were nothing more than a tribe."
Maximilian couldn’t even imagine the cultivation realm of the invaders that had attacked the Dragons and Phoenixes tribe, even forcing their Ancestor to flee, who was likely at a realm beyond Divine Ascendant. He only realised that they were just big fish in a small pond. There was a whole ocean out there.
The control room turned around, facing the grey mist in the air as it moved backward, towards the centre of the spaceship at the bottom.
The space in the spaceship where the control room should be inserted was naturally completely enclosed by years of accumulated dust and rocks.
The multiple burning white discs at the backside of the control room obliterated the debris, making their way into the spaceship. It stopped when only the curved glass wall at the front remained outside the spaceship’s surface, while the rest of the room was completely inserted into it.
The Control Room is successfully reattached to the spaceship. Would you like to run a scan of the whole spaceship to check for any damage or filter out the Death Energy?
"How much energy will it consume?" Evangeline asked.
The complete scan will take 0.67% energy. Remaining energy: 0.9999%.
"The entire flight only took 0.0001% energy?" Maximilian gasped in astonishment.
"That’s natural," Evangeline explained. "If such a short distance could consume all of its energy, it wouldn’t have survived in space for hundreds of years."
She turned her focus to AINOS and ordered, "Only scan the horizontal arms of the spaceship. Eject any Death Energy you find there. Seal off the remaining places."
Initialising the command...
Half an hour later.
The horizontal arms are successfully purified of the Death Energy. No damage to the spaceship in this part is detected.
"Why did you only scan this one part of the spaceship?" Maximilian asked, confused. "Now that we are at the deepest part of the Riftlands, no one in this world can discover us. I wanted to explore this massive spaceship in this time."
"Before that, you need to reach the next realm," Evangeline reminded him. "I only cleared the horizontal arms so that we can both cultivate at the ends of the arms without disturbing each other. We should keep the energy of AINOS reserved for emergencies."
"Hmm, I understand," Maximilian nodded. "You really think several steps ahead."
"Could you two explain what the actual hell happened?" Wukong finally spoke up, still processing what he had experienced just now.
"We are at the deepest part of the Riftlands," Evangeline explained to him, the sphere rotating and revealing the couple sitting there to Wukong. "Don’t go outside, or the dense Death Energy here will crush you."
"D-deepest part!?" Wukong exclaimed, his mouth widening. "If I can’t go outside and hunt, what am I supposed to do here?"
"Try cultivating all the Rank-Seven bodies you have devoured until now," Maximilian told him with a frown. "You are doing nothing but eating, not even molding your core with the energy you devoured. I want you to reach the peak of Rank Seven Death Demon when I return from my closed-door cultivation."
Wukong flinched at Maximilian’s order, giving him the stare of a disobedient teenager.
"Be good, Wukong," Evangeline added, her tone warm. "I will give you the cores of Rank-Eight Death Demons if you behave."
"Really?" His eyes brightened with excitement, the earlier defiance nowhere to be seen. "I will cultivate diligently and make sister-in-law proud."
He sat cross-legged before the chamber that had the All-devouring Art engraved on it and began cultivating.
"How are you so good with children?" Maximilian asked Evangeline, astonished by how filial Wukong behaved with her. He never listened to Maximilian.
"You learn a thing or two when you have to babysit the most mischievous child for decades," she replied with a shrug as she was about to rise from his lap.
Maximilian instantly understood the jab in her words. "Do you still think of me as a child?" he demanded with a frown, pulling her back into his embrace.
She turned on his lap, facing him, and cupped his cheeks between her hands. "I’m sitting on your thighs. Doesn’t that answer your question?"
Her words brought a smile to his face. "Be careful with your cultivation. Send me a message transmission talisman if you need anything during cultivation."
"My Lord, wouldn’t you also be in closed-door cultivation?" Evangeline asked with a chuckle. "Don’t worry about me and focus on your ascension."
"O-oh, right," Maximilian rubbed the back of his head awkwardly.
Evangeline kept looking at him with a warm smile, her hands never leaving his face.
"We should move out now," Maximilian said, his eyes turning sideways from her unblinking gaze.
"The next time I see you, we will already be adults," Evangeline said, her tone low and sulky. "Let me look at your enchanting face to my heart’s content."
"O-oh, alright," Maximilian replied, a bit taken aback by her sudden sweet words before turning his eyes back to her serene face.
"No, looking isn’t enough," Evangeline shook her head. She leaned closer and began kissing him on the lips. Once. Twice. Thrice.
"My Lord. You are only mine. Mine... mine... mine."
In just a few seconds, her lips met his several times, her greedy eyes never leaving his face.
