Guy
(Five minutes before Sapphyra shows up)
My eyes snapped open.
No, not my eyes, Wyatt’s.
Sapph was a few minutes away, executing the other part of the plan and Wyatt was in my body, waiting. I was driving his body now.
Soul swapping by using residual psychic energy? I can’t believe this crazy ass plan worked but what else could I expect from the woman who’s damn near seen it all?
Rhea was still on top of his body and that made me white-hot with rage. She didn’t just touch what was mine, she violated him. For that crime…well let’s just say that I’m glad I no longer have the superhero class.
“I’m gonna give you one chance to save yourself, lady.” His words, strained but with my energy behind them. From the way she jumped off of me, I think my eyes might have given the plot away.
“You…you’re not—what happened to you?” She asked, peering at me with wild eyes. “Why are your eyes brown instead of amber?”
Yep, thought so. Good, that means I don’t have to pretend to be him any longer.
“Wyatt had to step out for a moment. I can take a message though.” I smirked at her as her face turned red with rage. She gritted her teeth and pressed a hand to her forehead, concentrating on something I couldn’t see.
“Just you wait. I’ve got something special for you—” her hand dropped, mouth drooping like someone was melting her bones. An ethereal scream ripped through her and shook the remaining crumbling walls of Beacon headquarters. Rhea dropped to her knees, unaware that I’d been moving my ankles ever so subtly. I had to get out of these bindings, otherwise Sapph was gonna get jumped.
These people that I’d grown up with had already hurt one of my mates, I wouldn’t let them hurt another.
“What…everything is so hot! Why is it hot? Why are there pink and black flames everywhere?!” Rhea glanced up at me and for a second I thought it was all over, that I’d been caught and doomed Wyatt to even further torment.
But Rhea wasn’t looking at me. She wasn’t looking at anything at all. Her eyes had clouded over. What was once the white of her eyes had now turned pink with no pupil.
“I can’t see!” She wailed, aimlessly waving her hands in front of her. It was almost pathetic but honestly? This bitch is reaping what she sowed.
His body was weakened but with my help, I finally broke free from the bindings around my ankles. My hands ached and they stung around my wrists but eventually I whittled the lines enough to snap them in two.
Freedom. But only partially. I had to find Noa too or this wouldn’t be a happy reunion.
“I can’t see! Please, help me. Please, I’m so scared!” Her hands scratched at the ground, like her salvation was buried under concrete.
It took every ounce of my self control not to spit in her face. Rhea would get no sympathy from me. Not after torturing Sapph with her dead son and now Wyatt too, fuck that.
I hobbled past her and placed a hand on the wall, steadying myself as I moved down the hallway towards what I prayed would be Noa’s cell. According to Wyatt’s observations—gotta give him some credit—Themis was guarding Noa far enough away that they couldn’t sense each other but close enough to make an example if necessary.
I.e they kept him within screaming distance. Add it to the checklist of sins against my mates.
“I would stop right there if I were you, Guy.” Just as the door to Noa’s cell hit my vision, I saw her sitting there, scales in hand like normal. Themis looked like she hadn’t eaten or slept in days but her hand never dropped that scale. Beside her, Noa lay on the ground in his wolf form with his paws on his nose. A soft whimper escaped him when he saw me.
Don’t worry, I’m gonna get you back with him soon.
“Themis,” I wanted to try and reason with her first and punch second if necessary, “you look like you’d rather be anywhere but here.” I nodded towards the hall behind me, “just leave. I won’t say anything, hell, I’ll damage myself to help seal the deal.”
For a breath, I almost thought I got through to her.
“My health is the least of your concerns right now, Guy. Your soul is in the wrong body and with no help from me. How is that?”
A little help from the goddess but I wasn’t about to tell her that.
At first I ignored her and took a hesitant step towards the cage but she tilted her scales just enough for me to lose my footing and float into the air.
Fuck! Not cool.
Themis’ power didn't just expose the balance of the soul, it can also manipulate other forces. Like gravity and anti-gravity. As a kid, I used to love watching her do tricks with an apple falling down and rising back up.
Just never thought I’d be the apple.
“Woah, easy! I don’t want to hurt you!” I called out at the top of my lungs, trying one last time. “You’re still my auntie Themis, you’re better than this and you know it!”
“Shutup!” She snarled at me but it was easy to see she was forcing it. “You have no idea what she has planned. I swear, it was easier working under Rupert than for Barbie. They’re both so twisted, I can’t even judge them with my scales.”
She raised her hand towards the left and my body went flying towards the right, crashing into another crumbling wall. This time the wall actually fell and skylight started pouring in. I could hear birds chirping…or were those the ones flying around my head?
“Why couldn’t you have just brought us that madman?” She sighed, raising her hand. My body lowered to the ground too fast to think about and pain exploded behind my eyes as my skull cracked against the ground.
Sorry Wyatt. I’ll write ‘gently used’ on your arm.
“I mean really, don’t you know what he did to you? To your parents?” She continued on as I rolled over with a groan.
Noa tried standing up but his legs trembled and buckled, putting him back down.
I coughed up crimson,”yeah. I know about my parents being capps. That doesn’t change the fact that this is wrong and you know it.”
Her mouth twitched like she’d had one too many cups of coffee.
I tried giving her chance after chance but it's no good. Themis has left me with no choice.
“See the thing about it is, Wyatt’s not your husband.” I wheezed out, smiling when the ground beneath us began trembling. The concrete split beneath her feet.
“But he is damn sure your problem!”
Themis’ eyes nearly popped out of her head as two very familiar hands reached up from directly below her, grabbing at her ankles.
