"We should start heading back now," he told her.

The woman pouted her lip sadly.

She didn’t want to leave him, ever.

Kalon stepped closer and rested a hand against her cheek. Her glossy purple skin was warm under his palm.

"I’ll bring you again soon. For now it’s safer if you return to Venduros. Don’t worry, now that you’ve travelled with me once, we can make this a frequent thing."

Josinia held his gaze for a long moment. Her pink eyes were reluctant, but she understood.

She leaned in, pressed a soft kiss against his lips, and stepped back.

"I will be looking forward to it," she said quietly.

Kalon focused on the system and selected the return option for her.

[Sending Josinia to Venduros...]

[...]

[Transfer complete.]

She vanished from the rooftop in a quiet shimmer of light.

The night air felt emptier without her.

Kalon stayed outside a little longer, letting the new darkness affinity settle deeper into his body.

After a few more minutes he headed downstairs to his room. After the long day, it wasn’t difficult for him to fall asleep at all.

...

The next morning he woke up feeling like a new man entirely.

Kalon opened his eyes and immediately felt a great difference.

His body was denser, tighter, packed with concentrated force that hadn’t been there the day before.

He sat up and rolled his shoulders. Muscle moved under his skin with clear power. Even the simple act of standing made the floorboards creak slightly under his feet.

I’m growing... I must be like 5’8 now. And these muscles...

He flexed his hands once, watching the way his fingers closed with new strength.

Daily Blessing had worked it’s magic, alongside Formidable Body.

He pulled up his full status to check everything at once.

Kalon first stared at the rank line for several seconds.

Mid Gold. He had progressed to Mid Gold from his fighting on Cryos!

The jump from Low Gold had given every attribute a clean sub-tier boost, as well as a 25 increase to health.

Strength especially felt different, since the Daily Blessing passive skill had stacked on top of the rank-up and left him feeling like he could crack stone with the flick of a finger.

Stamina and Agility sat comfortably high. Even Mana had edged upward. His body was still adjusting to the new density, but the power was already stable.

He turned his attention away from the status screen feeling satisfied.

As he was getting dressed for school, his phone buzzed on the desk.

A message from the Ten Dragons official line waited for him.

Kalon Manchester,

We require your formal response to the provisional sponsorship offer by the end of today.

— Ten Dragons Corporation

Kalon sat on the edge of the bed and read the message. He thought deeply.

The warning from Jeremiah Redsea and Larissa Montague still sat clear in his mind.

The pattern of talented fighters who rose quickly under the Ten Dragons and then vanished had never left his thoughts.

The contract looked great on paper, the money, the facilities, the pills, but the shadows behind it did not.

He thought about the missing First Dragon, the way the nine current members had stared at his skill, and the feeling that something larger was moving behind their offer.

He opened the reply field and typed a short answer.

I decline the offer.

— Kalon Manchester

He sent it without hesitation. Almost immediately the message status changed to read.

He put the phone down and finished getting ready for school.

...

The academy halls were already busy when he arrived.

Students moved between classes in the usual morning rush.

Some still carried conversations about the recent footage of his fire affinity and the sudden interest from the Ten Dragons.

When news spread that he turned down the offer, it would be sure to spark up even more conversations.

A few glances came his way, but most people kept their distance. The shift in how others treated him had become normal.

He was halfway to the cafeteria when Thea found him.

Her blue eyes lit up the moment she saw him.

She walked over quickly, her tight black flared pants moving with her steps, and stopped in front of him with a small, relieved smile.

"You’re here. I didn’t see you at all yesterday. I checked the usual places and you weren’t around. I thought something might have happened."

"I guess you figured out where I was eventually," Kalon replied, since she had obviously heard the news about the drgaons. "I’m back now, though."

Thea nodded her head. It was clear that she wanted to ask him about the dragon sponsorship, but didn’t want to be too pushy.

"You look different, again. Stronger." She paused, then added in a quieter voice, "Will you come over later today? My mother is out until evening. We can train... or just talk. I want to catch up properly before the duo tournament."

The duo tournament... The day is getting closer.

Kalon gave a small nod.

"Of course, I’ll be there after school."

Thea smiled, not bothering to hide the fact that she was happy to be able to spend time with him.

Even Kalon could see this.

He looked forward to the day that he was powerful enough for the space seducer system to work on humans like her.

What would it be like to introduce Thea to aliens?
