Safe?

Kalon didn’t take long to process what the system was hinting at.

If Josinia would feel safe after his arrival, that meant she didn’t feel safe at that current moment. Not only that, but she was around twenty non-seducable Vendurions, which likely meant they were men.

Putting two and two together, Kalon guessed that Josinia was in danger.

He wasted no time travelling to Venduros.

[You have arrived!]

[Welcome to Venduros!]

...

Kalon arrived standing in the middle of a pathway that cut through the middle of a forest of yellow trees.

He recognised it well, as it was the place where he, Josinia, and the other Vendurions spent their time away from everyone else.

It was located on the outskirts of the resistance city, far away from everyone else.

So why was he now surrounded by so many Vendurions?

By his side were Josinia and Bethaniu.

Vhariella lay further ahead on the ground, her body was still and bloody...

Ahead of him, with swords drawn and ready, stood the two knights, Lionedis and Handrid. They were dressed casually, which meant that the group had simply been on a casual night stroll.

Then they had been ambushed and surrounded by twenty knights armed with all sorts of weapons.

The first thing Kalon noticed was that these men wore the same armour as the knights he had seen back at the queen’s palace.

Silver plate with golden lining.

This meant that these were knights of the empire who had finally arrived to attack the resistance city.

They had planned to sneak in through the forest, but instead ended up running into these five civilians. They had managed to kill one before Kalon had arrived.

Kalon clenched his fists in rage... but he wasn’t able to process much more before he was finally noticed.

His allies turned to look at him first.

Josinia and Bethaniu’s eyes lit up, but they were filled with tears for their fallen friend.

Lionedis and Handrid seemed to calm slightly, yet they were still filled with almost uncontrollable rage and sorrow.

As for the twenty knights dressed in silver and gold... their expressions showed astonishment.

"What is that... thing?" one of them said, tightening his grip on his spear.

"Is that a human?"

"What the fuck? How?"

"Someone head back and report this to the palace. Something is clearly wrong here."

One of the younger imperial knights suddenly broke away from the others, heading back towards the secret exit they had entered the city through.

Before he could, Kalon had already activated Ninefold Sunbreaker.

All eyes turned towards him.

A wave of scorching heat exploded outward from Kalon’s body.

Nine blazing suns, each the size of a melon, burst into existence around him. They burned with intense golden-orange flames, spinning slowly at first, then faster as he focused his will.

The forest around them lit up as if it were midday, despite it actually being nighttime.

The temperature skyrocketed.

"Lionedis, Handrid, take the women and run," Kalon said calmly, "Get back to the city and warn the resistance that the empire is finally attacking... I’ll make things right here, I promise."

Josinia hesitated, worry flashing across her face. She wanted to argue and stay, but knew that she would only get in Kalon’s way.

The two men hesitated too. They wanted nothing more than to fight and avenge Vhariella.

Especially Handrid...

Yet they knew Kalon’s strength.

They knew they couldn’t fight against these twenty men, but Kalon could.

"You will make their deaths even more painful than hers?" Handrid sobbed through gritted teeth.

Kalon nodded.

"I will."

The group backed away, trusting him completely and putting vengeance in his hands.

Then they ran, not forgetting to carry Vhariella’s body with them.

The imperial knights stared in stunned silence, their weapons readied.

"What kind of monster is this? He’s confident that he can take all twenty of us at once," one whispered.

Kalon stepped forward. The nine flaming orbs moved with him, orbiting his body like loyal guardians.

Power radiated off him in visible waves of heat.

He looked untouchable.

Unstoppable.

One knight roared and charged with his sword raised.

"Kill the freak!"

Kalon checked that his allies were out of range. Then he flicked his hand.

One of the suns shot forward like a cannonball.

It slammed into the knight’s chest with explosive force. Flames erupted, consuming him in seconds. His scream cut off almost instantly as he was reduced to a burning mess along with his melting armour.

The blast itself forced the knights around him to cover their faces. They dove out of the way as embers splattered everywhere, setting trees alight.

At least three nearby Vendurions were burned just from the splash damage.

Chaos erupted.

"Attack! Take him down!" they shouted from beyond the flames.

They knew that if another one of those suns were thrown at them, they would have no chance.

Spears, arrows, and blades enchanted with all sorts of skills flew at Kalon from every direction.

He didn’t even flinch.

He used the orbiting suns carefully, intercepting the projectiles mid-air and burning them to nothing.

Even without launching them, the Ninefold Sunbreaker suns had their uses.

One strike almost took his head clean off, but he managed to used Astral Counter to defend it and absorb it’s energy.

After defending against the first wave of projectiles, it was time to go back on the offensive.

One knight tried to flee to the side. A sun chased him down and detonated at his feet, sending a explosion of flames that swallowed four others nearby.

The forest lit up with screams and roaring flames.

Kalon walked them down like a god of fire descending upon mortals. His eyes glowed in the firelight.

None of his flames affected him, and he still had seven other suns surrounding his body.

He did not feel bad for what he had done.

None of these men were innocent.

Not at all.

His Radiant Soul amplified his desire to avenge Vhariella.

He raised his hand, controlling two more suns.

They streaked through the knights like living comets, exploding on impact and spreading immense fire across silver armour.

Men burned alive, rolling on the ground, begging for mercy.

The heat was so intense that trees cracked and burst into flame. The pathway became a blazing inferno.

Only four knights managed to break away, running desperately towards the exit, their armour scorched and faces pale with terror.

"Run! Tell the Empress! There’s a demon here!"

Kalon let them go. He could have chased them down easily. He assumed that from their speed, they were all steel and silver rank.

But he wanted the empire to hear about this.

He wanted them to feel fear and be cautious when attempting to attack the resistance.

He needed them to know that there was a ’monster’ here.

The remaining suns slowly dimmed and faded as Kalon deactivated the skill.

The forest around him was blackened and smoking. Bodies, or what was left of them, were scattered across the ground.

Josinia and the others had already reached safety.

Kalon stood alone in the middle of the destruction, breathing heavily, but completely unharmed.

He felt stronger than ever.

Not just because he had demonstrated his power.

But because he had advanced to Mid-Silver rank through combat.
