Outside The Purple Rift

By this point, Gabriel’s glowing eyes had begun flickering erratically, short bursts of aether igniting off his body. Hunters gathered several meters away behind barricades could sense every cell in their bodies tense.

If they’d been just a few more meters closer, the effects would’ve been catastrophic, even for S-Ranks.

The Pantheon stood watch, each of them readying themselves for two things. The imminent expansion of the Purple Rift. And the possible breaking of Gabriel’s psyche.

"It’s been over a decade since I’ve seen a berserk SS-Rank," Loki murmured, eyes moving to Apollo. "And you want to change that with this reckless move."

Apollo tried ignoring them, placing all focus on the spatial lock. The cracks had become sporadic, shattering the edges off the crystalline dome until iridescent spatial shards flaked into the air.

Around Gabriel, space distorted, rippling like waves in an otherwise calm sea.

Even Yemoja had to speak up. "I rarely say this." A pause. "But Loki is right. If Hunter Gabriel goes berserk, that’ll be two threats we’ll have to handle. A berserk SS-Rank would still pose a serious threat."

"Hey!" Wukong called out to Gabriel, lowering his staff. "Are you sure you still got enough juice left in—"

He didn’t finish.

Gabriel slowly snapped his neck backwards, those wild eyes glowing like the hearts of a supernova, pinning on the Monkey King.

The latter took a single step back instinctively. That completely took him off guard.

’What in the nine hells was that fear?’ he thought as Apollo stepped forward.

"Hunter Gabriel?" The Pantheon leader kept his voice calm. "Please tell us you’re still in there."

Several spirals of crystal clear water spun around Yemoja, each seeming sharp enough to cut a diamond. Yet her eyes glinted with hesitation.

Loki had had enough. "We’re going to fucking lose him at this rate." They stomped through the snow, which was already melting off due to Gabriel’s aether output. "Gabriel? I know you and I aren’t exactly... friends."

Gabriel’s brows relaxed by just a fraction. Enough to convince Loki to go on.

"But if you’re still in there—please, fight this. Don’t do it for us. But do it for him."

Every other member of the Pantheon either exchanged confused looks or kept their eyes on the lord of chaos.

Him?

Who were they talking about?

Despite their confusion... Gabriel seemed to understand. He blinked a couple of times, the feral light in his eyes disappearing entirely.

"F-Fuck," he stuttered, his breathing coming out in short bursts. "I-I... Loki, thank you. I saw... I saw you all... as monsters I must eliminate a second ago."

"Yep." Loki shook their head, advancing closer with an outstretched hand. "That’s enough. You’ve done your best—"

The second they got within three meters of Gabriel—an invisible wall blocked them from getting any nearer. Loki frowned, slapping a hand on the wall.

It shivered but didn’t even budge. They hit it again with more strength, eyes darting to Gabriel.

"What the hell is this?"

A wry smile lifted the corner of the space god’s lips. "That’s just the thing..." his eyes travelled past every member of the pantheon. "I can’t risk turning into that person. Into that... monster."

Loki shook their head. "I do not fuck with that sacrificial look in your eyes."

A hundred meters away, the Hunters from the federation stretched their necks, pondering what was happening.

"Is something happening to Hunter Gabriel?"

"I-I’ve been in two raid missions where he was present. He’s never released aether like this." Someone said loud enough for tens of others to hear.

"Is he going berserk?"

"Who are those Hunters so close to him? How are they not getting slimed by now?"

"Shouldn’t we get them out of there?!"

Gabriel gave Loki one last lingering look. "I can’t risk whatever is behind that Rift breaking out either." His eyes then flitted to Kali. "Not with your vision over this world’s neck."

Loki sneered. "So what the heck are you going to do?! Fling yourself at that damn thing and get shredded?"

Yemoja chimed. "You don’t have to do this, Hunter Gabriel. You’ve done enough. Please come out of there and let’s—"

The space god flicked a wrist.

Before the Pantheon knew what was happening, space warped around them, and in a blink, they were standing behind the barricades along the Federation Hunters.

"... Son of a—" Loki gritted their teeth, attempting to jump over the barricades.

That’s when the invisible spatial wall exploded, stretching until it stood right before them and the rest of the Hunters.

Gabriel wasn’t dumb.

While maintaining the Spatial Lock, he’d already run through every possible outcome.

Closing the Rift entirely wasn’t feasible.

Redirecting it to a different point in space... That might still be possible.

Probably Saturn or Jupiter if he pushed himself to the extreme.

By then, he’d definitely either have drained himself or gone berserk. But with the space wall holding back the others, he could safely transport himself away from the planet, too, before he could cause any harm.

It was a fifty-fifty move.

Still, at this point, he couldn’t see any other options.

’I’m sorry, Ambrose.’ A single tear rolled down his left eye, even with the forced smile on his face. ’I tried to wait. But if you’re coming back... I don’t need you coming back to a world on the brink of destruction.’

Loki was right.

He was going to fight going berserk for Ambrose. Long enough to end this fucking Purple Rift.

Inside the Purple Rift Dungeon

Ambrose ran for his life the second the Void Entity clashed with the other Extinction-level being.

BOOOOOMMMM!

The aftermath was cataclysmic, obliterating multiple buildings and shattering the ground for hundreds of meters.

Ambrose stumbled.

"Fuck..." He looked over his shoulder in time to witness an impossibly large tentacle shooting out of the city’s depths.

It lunged at the Void Entity, followed quickly by several more.

He tore his gaze away when the Void Entity retaliated, his eyes locking on the Purple Rift and the Hunters and elves standing before it.

"Hey!" He waved a hand, desperately hoping they heard him. "Over here!"

Using his flames to simply boost himself was not an option. So he pumped his legs faster, sprinting to the group.

The Elven princess was the first to look in his direction. "Wait." She stopped the argument that had been about to happen between her elves and the Hunters. "Isn’t that... another human?"

The others followed her line of sight.

Winds of apocalyptic proportions swept through the city, making it difficult to see.

Trinity placed a hand over her eyes, squinting at the figure.

"... Wait a minute." Her eyes widened.

"Guide Ambrose?"
