Seducing the Guideverse With My System — Raising an Anomaly [BL]
Chapter 343: _No More Point HidingHale-Ferguson Residence
"Quite the interesting weapon you’ve got with you there." Yemoja whistled from where she sat, eyes locked on Grave Keeper. "Whoever crafted it must be—"
"I asked a question," Ambrose said flatly. "And I’m far too exhausted to be repeating myself. So... please."
"So much bite for a so-called C-Rank Guide." Apollo took a few steps in his direction, making him subconsciously tense up. "I’m guessing your soul being from a different universe wasn’t all you were hiding."
Ambrose’s expression remained unreadable. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"You can’t seriously be trying to drag that lie with us, are you?"
"You know, I could call the authorities on you guys. I doubt Viktor or Devon consented to you coming in here."
Apollo’s lips curved.
Usually, he was calmer and more level-headed in matters like this. But the Guide’s arrogance was indeed agitating.
"Enough." Kali shot to her feet before either of her comrades could throw another word. Then those violet eyes moved to Ambrose. "Guide Ambrose. We do not mean any harm to you by coming here. On the contrary, we mean to talk."
[You’re coming off too strong, sweetheart. Why don’t you just calm down for a second and listen to whatever they’ve got to say?]
’Well, forgive me, but my nervous system is probably still in fight or flight mode from battling a fucking Superman wannabe boogeyman.’
[I know, I know... shh, boo.]
"Guide Ambrose?" Kali snapped her fingers, pulling his attention back to her and the others. "What do you say? Can you hear why we’re here?"
Ambrose’s shoulders quietly relaxed.
He looked over at Devon and Viktor.
The S-Ranks didn’t seem threatened by the Pantheon being in their house. In fact, both men had their eyes on him, their respective minds swirling with anxious thoughts.
Sucking in a breath through his mouth, Ambrose kept Grave Keeper and his chains in his system space. Without looking at the Pantheon, he collapsed onto a single-seat couch, crossing one leg over the other.
Spatial awareness made him know Orion was upstairs, playing with his toys.
Meaning he didn’t have to be PG-rated.
"How can we help you?"
Kali smiled, lowering herself back to the couch behind her. "It’s not exactly how you can help us," those violet eyes flitted to Yemoja and Apollo. "It’s a matter of—"
"Could we just skip the meaningless attempt at suspense and cut to the point?" Ambrose rubbed his forehead. "I’m sorry if I sound rude. I’ve genuinely had one of the worst afternoons imaginable."
Yemoja arched her brow. "Did you perhaps lose your manners during said ’worst afternoon’?"
A sarcastic smirk quivered at the corner of his lips.
Fortunately, Kali chimed in before he could say anything heavier.
"I saw a vision." The words came out of her a little too quickly. "Of... you. You held that same scythe you hid away earlier. Covered in blood. There were dozens of high-tier beasts surrounding you."
Ambrose sucked on his gum.
He fucking knew it.
It was why he didn’t bother pretending to be polite when he walked through the Black Key portal. He could probably play it off and lie that it was a portal created by Gabriel or something.
But it won’t explain the bruises or the remnants of powerful aether snaking across his body.
"We understand if you..." Kali went on when he didn’t speak up, "... Want to keep your secrets. But if my vision was correct, then it’ll mean you aren’t an ordinary Guide. Let alone a C-Rank. At least, not anymore."
"And," Ambrose raised his head, "you’d be correct."
Apollo’s head tilted.
Devon and Viktor’s eyes bulged, the former’s face paling.
Ambrose caught Viktor’s icy blue eyes on him and let their eye contact linger.
’Looks like I’m going to take on your suggestion of revealing my secrets to them after all.’ He echoed through the link.
The ice Prince’s jaw worked. ’I didn’t mean like this, Rory. W-We could still come up with a lie. I could text Loki and Valentine to come—’
’We’ve done our best.’ Ambrose let out a mental sigh. ’They won’t have been so diplomatic about it if they weren’t willing to keep my secret.’
"Wow." Kali blinked a couple times. "I... I was expecting a little more resistance. Given how our last interaction went."
Ambrose shrugged. "What’s the point? You already saw how I got in here, so that basically proves you weren’t having some drug-induced dream."
Kali’s forehead crumpled. "My visions aren’t—"
"So yes." Ambrose’s tone gained a serious edge. "I’m no Guide. And I’m not exactly an Esper either." He snapped his fingers, summoning a tiny spark of blue flames between them.
Yemoja’s mouth parted while the tension in Apollo’s chest lessened, their eyes gleaming under the beautiful blue light.
"Remember when I told you I had no clue how my soul ended up in this universe?" He muttered. "Well, that was partly a lie. My soul was picked out by a godly system AI that now lives in my head. With this system, I’m able to grow stronger by forming permanent links with powerful Espers."
Apollo shook his head. "An... AI system in your head?"
Yemoja blinked. "Permanent links with powerful Espers? Like... more than one? How’s that even possible?"
"Who sent this system?"
"Can you—"
"I believe I’ve given up enough info." Ambrose’s smile was far from genuine. "You now know how I got here and how I evolved to the point I’m at now."
Kali’s eyes narrowed.
She tried reading his aether from where she sat—like she’d done the few moments she’d seen him.
Nothing.
Just like before, it was as if something within was blocking her.
"... Are you SSS-Rank?" She questioned, fingers curling on her lap.
Silence coiled tight in the room.
All heads, even Devon and Viktor’s, swerved to Ambrose, expectantly awaiting his response. He met the eyes of each of them one by one before letting out a breath.
"No. Far from it actually."
Kali stared with awe.
If his aura already felt like this without him reaching the pinnacle of all Hunters... how powerful was he going to be if he kept growing and got there?
"Now that we’ve gotten our confirmation." Apollo cleared his throat, arms folding across his chest. "I believe we’ve still got lots to discuss, Ambrose."
Ambrose suddenly felt a headache coming on.
Just what he needed.
More talking.
