Seducing the Guideverse With My System — Raising an Anomaly [BL]
Chapter 344: _Where He Needed To BeStarlight Hospital, Aurelia City
"That will be all for now, Mr Silverstone."
"Thank you, doctor."
Gabriel smiled as the doctor in charge of his father’s treatments quietly left the reception hall. However, the moment she turned a corner and was out of sight, that smile vanished.
He sighed, hands on his waist as he lowered his head.
Five weeks.
They were going to give him a series of treatments and would also have to keep him mostly within the hospital walls... for five weeks.
He wasn’t even supposed to be here.
Heaven knows he meant what he told his parents the last time they met.
But his mother had found a good church to worship at and insisted on attending their service today. She pleaded he come stand in for her.
The space god reluctantly sat on a seat in the waiting area, inhaling through his mouth. Once he breathed out, those iridescent orbs cut to his left.
A little boy, dark-skinned with dimples that could rival Orion’s, giggled as he waved a ’magic wand’ in front of his father’s face. The man didn’t shun or scold him.
Instead, he played along, beaming proudly as the boy chanted some gibberish he got from a cartoon.
Gabriel didn’t know when his lips curved.
At least this generation of boys had a higher chance of having fathers who loved them no matter what. In his days, his father would’ve smacked his ass for playing with a ’girl’s toy’.
Trying to shake off the sourness slipping into his chest, Gabriel decided to channel his emotions into something else.
A slight twirl of his fingers bent space around the boy when he waved his wand again, distorting the light in the hall until the star at the top of the wand glowed.
The boy gasped, hopping excitedly.
"Daddy, look! My spells are real!"
The biggest smirk touched Gabriel’s lips as the boy ran to one corner of the hall after the other, showing anyone willing to see his ’spell’.
"Why, isn’t that adorable?"
That new voice made him snap his neck to the direction it came from.
A friendly face wearing the usual black trench coat sat beside him, his mere presence bringing a cloud of gloom to the hall.
Gabriel scoffed. "I thought you’d be at your penthouse or the nearest graveyard."
Valentine grinned. "What? And miss the almighty space god showing that he indeed has a heart."
"I don’t know what you’re talking—"
"I saw what you were doing for that kid." Valentine interrupted before he could even try lying. "It was... sweet." His eyes drifted to the boy who’d barreled back to his father, chattering about fairies and something inaudible. "It’s sad. He’s so full of life, yet he barely has a few more months left."
Those words made Gabriel’s heart skip a beat.
He cut Valentine a questioning look. "What do you mean?"
"I mean he’s dying." The Necromancer didn’t mince words. "Lots of people in this building are dying. For him, the aura of death is... thick. Clearly a hospice patient."
Gabriel’s smile slowly disappeared.
He looked at the child again, this time, not with amusement—but with careful attention.
The little boy couldn’t have been older than seven. Bald beneath the little knitted cap perched on his head, IV tape still clinging to the back of one tiny hand. Yet none of that seemed to matter to him as he proudly waved the glowing wand through the air, laughing every time it sparkled.
"You know," Valentine said quietly, folding one leg over the other, "you and other people assume I’d prefer graveyards."
Gabriel stayed silent.
"You’re all wrong." The Necromancer rested his elbows on his knees, watching the waiting room with an expression that was strangely... peaceful. "I prefer hospitals."
"A graveyard is the end of a story. By the time someone gets there, death has already won." His eyes lingered on the little boy. "Hospitals are different. Here... I get to witness the process."
He spoke so softly it almost sounded reverent.
"The hope. The denial. The acceptance." A slow exhale escaped him. "Death is never more honest than it is inside these walls. It’s almost..." He searched for the word before nodding to himself. "...intimate."
Gabriel didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, he watched the child one last time as he proudly showed his glowing wand to another patient, who pretended to recoil dramatically from the "magic spell."
A smile tugged at Gabriel’s lips again. Then he stood.
Valentine looked up. "Where are you going?"
Gabriel shoved both hands into his coat pockets.
"I suddenly feel like using my lunch break a little differently."
Without waiting for another question, he walked across the waiting hall.
The boy noticed him almost immediately, bright eyes widening.
"Hunter Gabriel?! Is that really you?"
A surprised laugh left Gabriel. "Oh, so you do know me."
"I thought I recognised you from somewhere." The child beamed. "Daddy didn’t believe me, but I knew it was you!"
His father looked up with a sheepish smile. "I’m sorry about that. He’s been trying to come meet you for the last five minutes and I... didn’t want you disturbed."
Gabriel scratched the back of his neck.
"Nah. It’s fine really."
From where he remained seated, Valentine simply watched.
A small, genuine smile settled on his face.
Perhaps this was exactly where Gabriel needed to be today.

Hale-Ferguson Residence
The atmosphere around the dining table had grown considerably calmer.
The earlier hostility had dissolved completely.
Nobody trusted each other entirely.
But everyone present had at least agreed to listen.
Ambrose leaned back in his chair, fingers loosely intertwined as Apollo, Kali, Yemoja, Devon and Viktor watched him with varying degrees of curiosity.
"I’ll start with something we already have in common." His silver eyes swept across the table. "Yes. I’m fully aware something is coming for this planet."
Kali straightened. "So my vision—"
"Was real."
Silence settled.
"The things you’re preparing for have a name." Ambrose paused just long enough for the weight of it to settle. "They’re called Archons."
Apollo’s jaw tightened.
"Archons?"
"They won’t negotiate." Ambrose’s voice remained even. "They won’t threaten us first; nor will they ask humanity to surrender. They’ll simply arrive... and start erasing everything."
Yemoja slowly folded her arms. "And how exactly do you know all this?"
Ambrose smiled apologetically. "That’s one question I won’t answer."
For the briefest moment, his thoughts drifted upstairs.
To Orion. To the impossible gift sleeping inside his son.
His fingers twitched beneath the table.
No.
He wasn’t ready to place that burden on Orion’s shoulders.
Apollo studied him for several long seconds before finally rising from his seat.
"I still have more questions than answers."
Ambrose chuckled. "I figured."
The god of light extended his hand.
"But regardless..." A small smile finally broke across his face. "I sincerely hope you remain our ally, Ambrose."
The Guide looked at the offered hand before taking it firmly.
"I’m glad. Because that’s exactly what I wanted."
