Seducing the Guideverse With My System — Raising an Anomaly [BL]
Chapter 355: _How Far He’s ComeS-Rank Snow Dungeon
BOOOMMMM!
Ambrose was sent flying by yet another blast from the S-Rank fox beast. He skidded backwards through the snow, rooting Grave Keeper’s shaft to keep him grounded.
’This thing is hella tough for an S-Rank beast.’
A thick cloud of smoke and snow from the explosion obscured visibility for hundreds of meters. But he didn’t need sight to know the beast was already upon him.
SLASH!
He blocked a claw slash aimed at his face, hands white-knuckling his scythe. Another slash came for his side, but he blocked that too.
In a flash, the beast began hitting him with more—easily five strikes per second. Ambrose blocked each one, grin widening as the burn in his chest coiled tighter.
His mouth opened.
A torrent of blue flames exploded out of his throat, simultaneously propelling him off the ground and disorienting the beast for a beat.
The fox’s six tails curled instinctively, a force bubble of pure blue energy protecting it from most of the burns.
’Aura, are you seeing this shit?’ Ambrose was in utter awe. ’This thing is versatile as hell.’
[Oh, no. I know that look in your eyes from anywhere...]
’I don’t know what you’re talking about.’ He spun his scythe around his head as the chains of Delirium appeared, clinging to the shaft. ’But I guess that’s enough playing around.’
In the span of a couple of minutes, their battle had levelled most of the surrounding terrain. Huge, centuries-old trees were flattened. Tonnes of snow melted. Nearby low-rank beasts had fled the scene the moment their clash even began.
Hundreds of meters away, Alisha and Devon had finally stopped running after being given a teleportation head start by Ambrose.
"Hey, can we slow down?" Alisha grabbed Devon’s arm when the energy surges from the fight finally felt somewhat distant. She looked toward the fight’s direction, squinting. "What the fuck was all that?"
Devon huffed.
His back straightened, a hand on his chest as he steadied his breathing.
Ambrose’s mere presence plus Vessel Of The Five sent pulses of invigorating energy and aether coursing from the link through his entire body.
Breathing still felt like a chore but the internal injuries from the tree monster attack more than tripled their healing rate.
’God, he’s amazing.’ A proud, almost reverent light flashed behind those golden eyes before they flitted to Alisha. "Yeah, that beast’s powerful. We might need a few more others to take it down."
Alisha blinked at him like he’d lost his mind. "Take it down? Dude," She pointed in the battle’s direction. "There’s something or someone already doing the dirty work for us."
"Maybe another powerful beast?"
"Nah." Alisha sounded sceptical. "That signature. The energy feels different from a beast’s. Yet... oddly similar."
She found herself gawking at nothing in particular.
If whoever or whatever the heck interfered hadn’t done so on time... things would’ve ended badly for her and Devon. Her sonic attack had barely left any damage.
’And still that isn’t the most powerful thing in here.’ She thought. ’Shit. I might have to consider retiring at this rate.’
Back at the scene of the battle, Ambrose narrowly dodged a claw swipe, white wings unfurling to lift him tens of meters above in a blink.
The chains of Delirium were already working their magic, making his movements seem like a blur to the fox.
Its jaw parted, a blast of icy blue energy lighting up within. Then it raised its head, aiming the attack at Ambrose.
ZRKKKKKK!
The beam shot out, burning and freezing the air around them at the same time.
[That energy attack appears quite similar to your ’Burning Ice’ technique.]
’Cute.’ Seriousness flashed through his features.
A tear ripped through space in front of him, the blast passing through it in a heartbeat. A split second later, another tear appeared just a few inches above the fox’s head.
BOOOMMMM!
[Now that’s just sick.]
Ambrose watched from above as waves of white snow billowed into the air. The explosion created a snowstorm that covered several acres within seconds, forcing even Devon and Alisha to take cover despite how far they were.
Miles away from the scene, the pair of one S-Rank Esper and her A-Rank Guide heard the deafening explosion.
"Holy shit." The Guide whistled, one hand over his eyes as he stared at the flock of birds flying in the opposite direction. "April, did you feel that energy surge?"
"Pretty sure most of this cursed snow land felt that." April had absolutely zero interest in knowing the source of that power.
Let alone did she wish to know what it was aimed at.
[Beast appears to be in critical condition.]
’Aether core still intact?’
[Yes.]
’Perfect.’
Ambrose landed just a few paces away from the beast, wings furling until they disappeared into his shoulder blades.
A wave of his hand made the snow covering his view disperse.
And there it was.
Barely able to stand was the fox beast.
Streaks of its own dark purple blood stained the snow around it. Its limbs trembled. There was a huge dent in its skull, and most of its once flawless white fur was now charred.
Totally unrecognisable.
"Well," Ambrose spun Grave Keeper casually, taking his time to get to the beast. "This was... Indeed a good exercise. Didn’t expect an S-Rank beast to give me so much trouble still."
The beast stared anxiously at his approaching form.
His silver eyes flared with a dark blue light, shadow already elongating behind him.
Just when he raised his scythe to land the finishing blow—
—The fox closed its eyes, head bobbing downward.
Ambrose froze.
The hell?
[It appears to... be yielding?]
’Yeah, I can see that.’ He frowned. ’Why though? I’m still gonna kill it anyway.’
He reluctantly lowered his scythe.
Mentally prepared to either disappear or cleave its head off depending on any crazy stunt the beast pulled, Ambrose leaned down.
Its eyes opened just enough for him to know it was still alive.
For a moment, he almost felt bad for the thing.
He didn’t know whether he was getting way over his head... but he reached forward with one hand.
[Sweetheart? What are you—]
Ambrose touched the beast’s forehead.
A light pat.
There was no retaliation or attempt to move away.
Just acceptance.
Originally, he thought maybe he’d sell its aether core.
But now?
Death energy sparked between his fingers.
It latched to the beast, ghostly whispers surrounding Ambrose as he summoned the might of his Necromancy. The beast didn’t fight it.
Gradually, its heart rate slowed. Its organs failed. In a matter of a few seconds, it was clinically dead.
[S-Rank Snow Fox Slain.]
Aura didn’t even bother asking if he wanted to acquire its aether core. She already knew.
"Rise..."
Ambrose got on his feet, wisps of dark blue energy snaking around him. That energy surrounded the beast’s corpse, fixing every wound faster than they’d formed.
Its pure white fur turned black as night, dotted with white energy dots that resembled stars. Its height increased by just a bit.
When its eyes opened this time, they were filled with renewed strength and a burning will.
To serve its new master.
[CONGRATULATIONS!]
[The host now has three S-Rank beasts under his undead army.]
Beherath.
The colossal turtle.
And now this guy.
A small smirk touched the corner of his lips.
’Sometimes it’s unbelievable how far I’ve come.’
As he basked in the satisfying silence that came with his victory and new ally, however... a strained tug came from one of his permanent links.
Viktor.
’Oh, shit.’ He cursed mentally, head subconsciously moving in the direction the ice Prince was most likely at. ’Vik, hang on. Beherath should be finding you soon.’
