Seducing the Guideverse With My System — Raising an Anomaly [BL]
Chapter 356: _It Will Only Get WorseElsewhere In The Snow Dimension
So, good news and bad news.
The good news is, Viktor was still alive.
That’s about it.
As for the bad news: his aether was still locked away, and he had to sit and listen to the stereotypical wise old man among the pale people interrogate him in English.
"So," the man’s grip loosened just a bit around his staff, "if I’m understanding you correctly—a Rift connecting our world to yours opened. Your people sent so-called ’Hunters’ to slaughter every ’beast’ in this world so the Rift could close up..."
His eyes narrowed on Viktor, as if seeking confirmation that he was on the right track.
Viktor smiled wryly. "Correct."
"Hmph." The mage raised his chin. "And if you didn’t clear these Rifts, the entities within them could eventually invade your world?"
"Yep."
The stranger who saved him finally spoke again, but unfortunately it was in their language. "These ’Rifts’ he’s talking about. They sound similar to the portals that have been opening recently."
Viktor frowned, noticing the sudden grimness on their faces. But also because he noticed something in the stranger’s voice that gave him a clue about her sex.
"So my kidnapper is a ’she’." He mumbled to himself, swallowing. "Of course. Good to know..."
"There are more," the mage turned back to him, robes flowing gracefully as he did, "of you Hunters out there. Aren’t there? Around the same moment Saidora found you, I sensed... foreign presences breaching again."
The ice Prince’s frown only deepened.
"... Again?"
"Yes." For the first time, the stranger said something in English. She lowered her hood, revealing sharp features and judgemental emerald eyes pinning right on him. "You have been told enough."
"Saidora." The mage raised a hand in front of her. "He’s been compliant. It’s only fair that we share what’s been happening in our world too."
Viktor blinked, eyes cutting between the two. "Uhm... how come she can suddenly speak English?"
Saidora harrumphed. "You mean this odd-sounding human language?" Her hands settled on her waist. "Magus Roitera is blessed by the gods with magic. Amongst his many gifts is translation."
"Cool," Viktor said after several seconds of not finding anything else to say. "So uhm... could you guys explain what you meant by ’again’? Have other Hunters been here before?"
"No." Roitera shook his head. "Not humans."
Viktor had the urge to face palm himself.
He was genuinely trying to find the patience to hear them out.
Fortunately, the mage eventually continued. "We are the Veyr. Our race has evolved and flourished through thousands of years of our world’s history." A pause. "But some seasons ago, something shifted. It first began with scouts noticing foreign creatures never seen before in our usual hunting routes."
"Like that feline," Saidora commented. "Believe it or not, but it wasn’t native to this world."
The mage grunted in approval. "Soon we began noticing more and more of these foreign creatures. Many were dangerous, killing some of our folk. We were forced to keep our tribes cloaked from the rest of the outside world."
"Then we began noticing portals. Alive with mana, connecting to other worlds. These portals, we noticed, were the source of these new beasts."
Viktor arched his brow. "Mana? Do you... mean Aether?"
Saidora arched her brow. "Right. We call it mana. The lifeblood of the universe."
The ice Prince could only nod, still trying to process everything he just heard. For months now they’ve known there was a fundamental shift happening in the universe.
Scratch that... for DECADES.
Based on Ambrose’s explanations, the Emergence, the rise of aether, Guides and Espers on Earth, and everything that followed were just mere symptoms of reality collapsing in on itself.
Ambrose’s and Orion’s existence in this timeline basically gave those symptoms a boost.
And now... there was confirmation that other realities and universes exist out there. Their worlds were also experiencing this shit storm.
Curiosity hit him just then. "Have your people been able to find any clues on what’s causing this?"
Roitera sighed. "What we do know is that this might only get worse. And all we can do is protect our people from these foreign... beasts."
Viktor let out a slow breath, rubbing the back of his neck.
"We’re seeing something similar back on Earth too." His voice grew quieter. "When those Rifts first started appearing, everyone thought they were isolated incidents. Dangerous, sure, but manageable. Now..."
He looked between the two Veyr. "They’re opening more often. They’re getting stronger. And the places beyond them..." He shook his head. "We weren’t expecting anything like this."
His gaze drifted toward the frost-covered window.
"When we entered this one, we thought it’d just be another dungeon. A big one, maybe. Instead..." A dry laugh escaped him. "This place is practically another world."
Saidora’s expression darkened.
"It will only become worse." She spoke with unsettling certainty. "Not only for your world... but for ours as well."
Silence settled over the room.
Roitera slowly nodded.
"For eons, reality remained separated. Stable." His fingers tightened around his staff. "Now those boundaries weaken with every passing season. More worlds bleed into one another. More portals appear." His aged eyes settled on Viktor. "All signs point toward the same conclusion."
He paused.
"Something is coming."
The words landed like a stone in Viktor’s chest.
The Archons.
Ambrose had spoken about them countless times, warning that everything happening now was only the beginning.
If Roitera had reached the same conclusion without ever meeting Ambrose... Then maybe this really was bigger than any of them imagined.
Before Viktor could ask another question, panicked shouting erupted from outside.
The voices came fast, all speaking in the Veyr language.
"Beast!"
"It has breached the barrier!"
"A monster has found us!"
Saidora’s head snapped toward the doorway.
Roitera’s expression instantly hardened.
Without another word, both Veyr rushed outside.
Viktor instinctively stood despite the restraint around his ankle, hobbling toward the open doorway as another strange sensation washed over him.
His permanent link pulsed strongly, making a soft smirk tug at his lips.
No way...
He reached the doorway just in time to peer through the gathering crowd.
Beyond the panicked Veyr, standing motionless in the falling snow like an ancient war god carved from crimson stone, was a towering figure clad in heavy armour, an enormous halberd resting across one shoulder while burning undead eyes scanned the settlement.
Beherath.
’Talk about timing...’
