Meanwhile, the Pantheon came together in a hall designated specially for them. It was dimly lit, with large fancy curtains draped over the equally large windows.

Kali waved a hand moments after stepping in, using a projection of energy to open the balcony doors.

She waltzed past Loki and Yemoja, who both stared after her with worry. Once she got a few steps away from the railing, she stopped.

Her breathing was still ragged.

Sniffling, she wiped off the blood trickling down her nose, head arching to the sunny skies.

It was happening.

In her vision of the Archons, she’d seen this too. Scattered, seemingly minuscule calamities striking different parts of the globe simultaneously.

Calamities with no serious risks to life—which would be brushed under the rug. Unless they acted fast and took this seriously.

"Kali?" Apollo called, head tilting as he headed for her. "What was that? Did you see something? Another vision or—"

"This is no vision," the goddess of time didn’t even look back. "One of them is already here. Within this timeline. Within this universe. Whatever mundane way you want to describe it."

Wukong pushed himself off a wall he was leaning against. "The cases being reported around the world—is happening because of this one Archon?"

"Forgive me..."

Every head snapped to the darkest corner of the room where their most reclusive member made himself comfortable. Even Kali was forced to angle her head to him.

Slowly, the SSS-Rank Guide rose from his seat, every subtle movement carrying a calming kind of authority. Within a couple of seconds, the bleeding from Kali’s nose ceased.

The tension in Apollo’s chest disappeared.

Even Loki almost found themselves forgetting why they were panicking to begin with.

’Gods, he’s good.’ They marvelled silently as the Guide moved into the dim lighting.

Thoth.

Named after the Egyptian god of knowledge and magic, he had abilities that stretched far beyond what was accessible to lower-ranked Guides. And psychic abilities so vast that even someone like Loki had to give him credit.

He was tall, bald, dark-skinned like polished mahogany and wore a rather stylish golden robe.

"You didn’t have to do that," Kali mumbled when she touched her nose and felt no more bleeding.

"I didn’t do anything," Thoth only spared her a look, bringing his attention to everyone else. "It appears I’ve been away so long that I’ve subconsciously... deleted myself from the equation when it comes to this little group."

Wukong scoffed. "Yes, yes—you made your absence very clear when you ignored the sigil summons involving the Void Entity."

Thoth’s golden hazel eyes cut to the monkey king. "It’s been decades since I’ve had to involve myself. Let alone ’guide’ any of you. I didn’t see the need to come out."

"You even ignored Kali’s projection. A message or something would’ve been appreciated."

"To what end?"

"Okay, Wukong." Apollo rubbed the bridge of his nose. "That’s enough, please." His neck twisted to the godly Guide. "You were trying to say something?"

Thoth gave a respectful nod. "Since the Emergence," he began, "and every Dungeon event that followed... I’ve been studying these Rifts. Many times it’s led me to travel into some of them. Inconspicuously."

He turned to Wukong and Kali. "Another reason why I couldn’t answer the Extinction Protocol summon."

Wukong’s lips quivered with a sarcastic smile. "Right. So what changed now? This year’s Grand Conclave happened to be interesting enough for you to grace us with your presence?"

"Wukong..."

"It’s fine, Apollo." Thoth drew in a breath. "My point is, in recent years I’ve noticed a slight rise in Rift activities. But NEVER as high, erratic and unpredictable as what’s been happening for the past five months or so."

His eyes settled on Kali.

Although she didn’t say anything, the twist in her features was enough to confirm his theory.

"Whoever those entities in your vision are," he drawled, "they aren’t the ones speed-running the decay in realities... are they? No, I believe they’re following the trail left behind by something that already has."

Loki’s stance became ridden all over with unease.

Shit.

Any jackass would know who he was talking about.

Question is... was the Guide certain of who exactly he was pointing at? And if yes—what the hell did he plan to do about it?

The heavy silence Magnus created lingered for several more seconds, nobody seeming eager to be the first to speak again.

Ambrose had barely settled back into a chair when three sharp knocks echoed through the chamber.

Everyone instinctively turned toward the sliding doors.

A IHC attendant stepped inside, breathing just a little harder than someone delivering an ordinary message ought to be. His eyes swept across the room before stopping on Magnus.

"Guild Master Magnus. President Josiah." He dipped his head respectfully. "Council Speaker Aileen requests the immediate return of every Federation delegation to the Grand Hall."

Magnus frowned.

"So soon?" His gaze briefly shifted toward the round table. "We’ve barely begun our deliberations."

"Those are the Council Speaker’s orders, sir." The attendant hesitated. Then, after swallowing once, he added, "The Pantheon has requested that all discussions be concluded immediately."

Silence crashed over the chamber.

Even Josiah’s expression shifted.

"They’re ending deliberations?" Viktor muttered.

"That doesn’t make any sense," Valentine said, pushing himself away from the window. "The votes weren’t supposed to be cast until later this afternoon."

"Apparently," the attendant replied, "there has been... a change in circumstances."

He didn’t elaborate.

Ambrose and Aura exchanged a silent look.

His stomach sank.

Whatever had happened inside the Pantheon’s chamber had clearly been serious enough to throw the entire schedule into chaos.

Magnus slowly exhaled before rising from his seat.

"Well." He buttoned his suit jacket, his tone growing noticeably graver. "I suppose we’ll get our answers soon enough."

One after another, the members of the United States delegation stood.

No one spoke again as they filed toward the exit.

’Loki?’ Ambrose reached into the lord of chaos’ permanent link as Aura grabbed Orion. ’If you’ve got any updates before we head back into that hall... now would be a good time.’
