"No, don’t come any closer..."

The man, who had been so arrogant just moments ago, now dragged his body backward in terror.

Even if he was from *that* kind of place, he had... he had never seen such a horrifying method.

The most they ever did was break arms and legs.

But... but this pain... it gave him the illusion that he would still be in agony even after death.

It was too torturous. He wanted to die, he desperately wanted to die!

Jiang Li looked at the man, whose body was about to split in two, and raised an index finger. "Shhh!"

’This must be the effect of adrenaline or something.’

Hearing her, the man became even more agitated. He started thrashing wildly. If he died, the pain would stop.

The next second, a knife pressed against his body, stopping him. His eyes widened in shock as he stared at the demon before him.

"Did Kun Sha send you? Nod, and I’ll make it quick."

"Yes, yes."

With a swift motion of her knife, Jiang Li watched his eyes go wide before his breath left him.

The few men still breathing were too terrified to make a sound. In truth, they were so scared they had no idea what they were even doing anymore.

Jiang Li got into the enemy’s car, drove it up to her own wrecked vehicle, found a lighter, and lit it.

The moment she started walking away, an explosion erupted behind her, a wave of heat washing over her.

As she lost consciousness, she saw the figures of Ji Qinghe and the others running toward her like madmen.

When Jiang Li woke up again, she was in the hospital. She was already used to this scene.

Her back stung fiercely, but she could still move her arms and legs. It was much better than she had expected.

CLICK. The hospital room door opened, and Lu Xingye walked in from outside.

"Jiang Li, you’re awake. Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?"

"I’m okay," Jiang Li rasped, her throat dry.

Lu Xingye quickly poured her a glass of water.

"Thanks." Jiang Li took a couple of sips through the straw.

Ji Qinghe came in from outside, followed by Zhang Hongzhi and his men. The room instantly became crowded as the group entered.

"Ms. Jiang, your information has been leaked. Why don’t you move into the bureau? It would be safer."

Jiang Li tilted her head and looked at Zhang Hongzhi. "Thank you, Mayor, but my information has been an open book for a long time. The one targeting me this time is Kun Sha."

Ever since she was targeted by Wu Jianzhang—no, even earlier than that—they had been watching her.

"What? Kun Sha! H-how is that possible!" Ji Qinghe exclaimed.

Kun Sha is in his fifties or sixties now. Back when Kun Sha had his "incident," Jiang Li was still with Jiang Dewang.

How could Kun Sha be targeting her? There was absolutely no grudge between them. This...

Zhang Hongzhi’s expression was grave. "Kun Sha has been exiled, and he has always been a person of major interest to us."

Zhang Hongzhi looked at Jiang Li again. Previously, he had thought her abilities were miraculous.

But now, it seemed there were many doubtful points.

"Ms. Jiang, do you really have no memory of your parents at all?

That man Kun Sha hates anti-drug police more than anyone.

Is it possible your parents were our comrades?"

If it weren’t for the anti-drug police, Kun Sha would never have been exiled, which is why he hates them the most.

This was perhaps the most likely reason he was targeting Jiang Li.

Jiang Li shook her head in confusion. "Sorry, I don’t remember."

"We will investigate this matter thoroughly. For the next few days, we will assign colleagues to provide you with extra protection."

Jiang Li nodded. ’Truthfully, if the other party really wants to get to me, there will always be a loophole.’

Yu Huannian and the others rushed to the hospital as soon as they heard the news. Seeing Jiang Li in the hospital bed, they were at a loss for words.

The injuries on her hands had just fully healed, and now she was back in the hospital again.

Looking at them, Jiang Li felt a sudden pang of guilt.

Yu Huannian walked in carrying some food and set it down.

Miao Anji stood dazedly at the door. For the first time, he felt that the ability he was so proud of was completely useless in protecting Jiang Li.

Wu Ming was already a mess, and now, seeing Jiang Li injured, she sat to the side, completely at a loss.

’Why do I feel like danger is everywhere?’ she thought. ’It’s like anyone around us could be an enemy.’

"I’m fine. Just a slight concussion. I jumped out of the car in time."

"If you don’t believe me, you can ask Lu Xingye or the doctor. It was just a bit of an impact. I’ll be discharged soon."

Yu Huannian looked skeptically at Lu Xingye.

"Ah, right. It was just a little fender-bender. Nothing serious. She’ll be fine soon."

The expressions of the three finally relaxed a little.

"You scared me to death. You should drive slower," Wu Ming said, suddenly breaking into a smile through her tears.

"I was a bit distracted," Jiang Li said with a smile, touching the tip of her nose. "Don’t worry about me. You guys should go back and get some rest. I want to sleep for a bit."

"Come on, I’m here. What’s there to worry about?" Lu Xingye ushered them out and thoughtfully closed the door.

"Go on back. Seeing you all so worried makes her feel very guilty. Some things are just out of her control.

I’ll watch over her. Come back tomorrow during the day."

Lu Xingye patted Yu Huannian’s shoulder.

Wu Ming, her eyes red, turned her head aside and muttered under her breath, "She’s always lying."

"Alright, call us anytime if something happens. We’ll head back for now." Yu Huannian glanced in the direction of the hospital room.

After seeing them off, Lu Xingye sighed helplessly to himself on his way back.

Jiang Li was leaning against the headboard, staring blankly ahead as tears fell uncontrollably.

By the time she noticed, her collar was already damp. Realizing her emotions were spiraling out of control, she felt an inexplicable surge of irritation.

"Big Sister, don’t be afraid. Little Li will always be by your side."

Jiang Li looked at Little Li beside her and reached out to hug her.

"Little Li, is my condition getting worse again? Is it time to take my medicine?

But I don’t want to take it. The medicine tastes awful."

Luo Jingheng was passing by with Du Kang, on their way to an examination at the hospital, when he heard someone muttering to themself inside the room.

He turned his head to look. Jiang Li was in a hospital gown, hugging empty air and talking to herself. She seemed like a completely different person from the one he had seen before.

Suddenly, Jiang Li looked up, her gloomy eyes staring at the doorway, full of an intent to drive him away.

Luo Jingheng’s eyes shifted, and he turned to leave.

"Young Master, the report those people gave us didn’t say anything about Jiang Li having a mental illness."

Du Kang was displeased. ’Isn’t this just setting us up for trouble? No, I have to call the old master and ask him just what kind of job these people are doing.’

Luo Jingheng stopped and tilted his head to look at him. "Then what do you consider normal? Is following the rules and routines what makes a person normal?

She just sees a different world." ’Everyone in this world is sick,’ he thought, ’just in different ways.’

Du Kang was speechless for a moment, then nodded quickly. "You’re right, Young Master."

Luo Jingheng glanced down at him before heading to the designated department for his examination.

Lu Xingye sat by the door of the hospital room. Jiang Li had said she wanted to be alone, so he didn’t go in to disturb her.

Lu Xingye thought about the Kun Sha case. All the police officers involved back then had ended up dead.

’If Jiang Li is really their descendant, her photo shouldn’t have been exposed.’

’But who could it be?’

’This incident happened quite a while ago. It looks like I’ll have to ask some of the old-timers.’
