Evan POV

"Man you got you a fine one," my cousin Bert said. I looked over to see Cadence holding Kara and doing the bus stop with my mom. My heart skipped a beat because she was smiling and laughing. That’s the Cadence I loved. To see her hurt or sad made me angry. Her heart was too good to have all the madness.

"Son are you sure?" My dad asked as we watched the women.

"I am. I feel it. I miss her when she is away. I want her by my side and look at her she is stunning. Mom seems to like her and Kara is laughing. I think they are both enjoying themselves."

My dad looked on. "If you are sure that is who you want, then I’m behind you every step of the way. I just want you to be happy."

"I know dad. She makes me happy." We continued to watch them to after the song was over. Kara pulled Cadence until they were headed up the stairs to her room.

"I better get her, before Kara says or does something," I said headed towards the staircase.

"Hey bro," I heard Mona say.

"Hey Mony."

"Happy birthday. I’m sure she gave you a nice present," she said moving her perfectly arched eyebrows up and down.

"Actually she did. She tied herself up in a bow and...."

"Please Evan TMI. I don’t need to know about your sexual escapades."

"Well if the heat is too hot get your ass out the kitchen like grandma use to say."

"Shut up Evan and go get your girl before Kara uses her as a baby doll. I am still trying to get crayons out my beige pants."

I left Mona and headed up stairs. I heard music blasting from Kara’s room. I eased opened the door to find Kara and Cadence singing, Katrina and the Waves, Walking On Sunshine. They were in the mirror singing their hearts out. I stood in the corner and watched them together. It made my heart flutter. This was the happiness I wanted. My two favorite girls having fun.

"Can I join?" I said. Kara ran over and pulled me over. She gave me a hairbrush and told me to sing. The three of us sang until the song went off.

My mom and sisters walked in as they were dying laughing when Kara put one one of her princess wigs on my head.

"Look my daddy is a princess," Kara said jumping up and down. We all had to laughed. I saw my sisters taking pictures and I was going to get them back.

"Time for bed pumpkin," my mom said. Kara grabbed on to my mom’s hand and they were about to leave the room.

"Wait mammie, Kara ran back to Cadence and gave her a hug and kissed her on the cheek. "Will you and daddy read me a bedtime story?"

"We sure will," Cadence said. Kara ran back to my mom and they left. I pulled Cadence to me and kissed her. I didn’t care if my sisters and now my dad were watching us. I could feel her pulling away, but I pull her closer.

"Evan we have onlookers," she said.

"Let them look. This is about all the action they get anyway." I could hear my dad laughing and my sisters growling. We all walked out and headed back down stairs.

The party was thinning out as people came up to us and I introduced Cadence. Everyone seemed cool about it. Before long Kara was running down the stairs in her all in one.

"Come on you two promised."

I picked up Kara and Cad stood. We began to walk up the stairs.

"They make a nice little family," I heard my sister Emilia say. It was true but was Cadence ready for this?

Half way through the story Kara fell asleep. Cadence tucked her under the covers and I kissed her goodnight.

"She’s adorable. She is lucky to have you in her life."

"I think it is the other way around. I’m lucky to have her and you," I said putting my arms around her.

"How do you know you have me?" She asked licking her bottom lip.

I bent down and kissed her. It was a simple kiss, but soft and seraphic. She opened her eyes and she stared at me.

"See, I know you belong to me. No other man is going to make you feel the way I do. You can deny it all you want, but we belong together."

She swallowed. "Evan, please don’t."

"Cad, I love you." The words left my lips and I wasn’t sure if I could take it back. She stopped and turn back to me.

Shit! I had messed up. I knew it was too soon.

"Are you sure you can love me? I am tainted. I’m no good for you," she said.

"I haven’t been this happy with anyone else and that includes Yaz. I want to wake up to you every morning, I want us to spend time together and I want us," I said pointing between the two of us, "to grow with one another. I know what you do Cadence. I know why you did it, but you don’t have to. If I have to book you every weekend until your contract is released, I will. If Lilly wants a buy-out I am willing to give it to her. I want you and nobody else. I love you and I mean it."

She had tears rolling down her face. I could see her trying to comprehend. She was fighting internally with so many emotions I could see her turning around. She walked towards the door and I grabbed her from behind. I didn’t want to lose her. I kissed the top of her head.

"You may not love me now, but give me a chance to prove it to you. Please." My heart was stampeding in my chest.

She turned around in my arms. Her face was red. "Okay," she whispered. I leaned down and kissed her. I felt free. I picked her up and spun her around. She kissed me and she melted in my arms.

"I’ve never loved a man before. You are the first. Don’t break my heart Evan."

"I won’t try to. I can promise you that."

I held her hand as we walked out of Kara’s room. We kissed in the hallway and headed down the stairs.

"I want to see Evan!" I heard shouting coming from downstairs. " I want to see Karenna now!"

"Yaritza you need to calm down in my house," I heard my father yelling.

I grabbed Cadence and hurried down the stairs.

"Yaz, what are you doing here?" She was either drunk or high.

"This your little bitch right here," she said pointing to Cadence. I pulled Cadence behind me.

"Yaz, you need to calm down," I said.

"Does your little girlfriend know you fucked me the other night?"

I could see the hurt in my mother’s eyes and disappointment on my sisters and dad face.

"We can talk about this outside." I went to grab her arm.

"Don’t touch me!" she yelled. "Honey he might love you but when he gets tired of you, he will threw you away just like he did me!"

"Get her out of here," I heard Steven say.

"I swear if any of you touch me, I will sue your asses."

I saw my sister dialing on her phone. She must be calling the cops.

"Oh, by the way Evan you can’t find a decent girl. This bitch behind your back is a high paid hooker. Yes Ms. Thang I know who you are. Evan pays a service in New Orleans to have sex. Did ya’ll know that. Evan can’t find a real woman so he has to pay for his pussy." She laughed.

"Get out Yaz!" I screamed. "You are not welcomed here. Get out before the police gets here."

"Let me see my daughter. She ain’t yours anyway! She belongs to Brian anyway. We been playing you for years, how about that for payback."

She had to be lying. Brian was an employee. Kara even called him Uncle.

My sister Mona ran to the door. Two police officers came in. My sister was explaining to them what was going on.

I could feel Cadence clutching my shirt and my shirt was wet. She was crying. I turned her around and she was. I saw the hurt look on her face.

"Cad...," she ran out the house. My heart fell through the floor. How could this be happening?

The cops came and arrested Yaz for disturbing the peace. I ran after Cad to see her walking down the drive.

"Cadence!" I yelled out.

"Take me to my hotel now!" Her face was dark pink and she was shaking. I took off my jacket and wrapped it around her.

"Okay, let’s go," I said putting her in the car. The drive back to the hotel was quiet. I heard her sniffling. She was hurt and probably embarrassed.

"See I knew it Evan," she whispered. I took her hand in mine and kissed it. I needed her to calm down. She leaned her head against the window until she fell asleep. Yaz and her big mouth was going to pay.
