Chapter 317: Vaelstrum Clan’s Choice

Rhain held his breath.

His eyes fixed on even the miniscule changes in the old man’s expression.

The old man’s monarch spiritual sense casually washed over him.

And then... the old man simply nodded respectfully.

Rhain secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

It held!

At the same time, Rhain also analysed the ancestor’s condition.

’His life force is critically depleted,’ Rhain analysed. ’Despite his immense spiritual pressure, his meridians are rotting from the inside. He will undoubtedly die within the next five years at most.’

"Grandmaster Korryn," the old man greeted.

"Greetings Vaelstrum Ancestor," Rhain replied evenly, greeting the old man.

As they sat down to discuss the Ancestor’s decaying meridians, Vulcan and Elara played their supporting roles perfectly, maintaining the intimidating, untouchable facade of Grandmaster Korryn.

However, during the talks, the Vaelstrum Patriarch suddenly frowned, voicing the burning question that had been bothering him for days.

"Grandmaster," the Patriarch asked carefully. "If I may be so bold... Why does the exalted Celestial Elixir Pavilion care so much about protecting a wanted fugitive like Rhain Voss from the Royal Decree?"

Before Rhain could answer, Elara intervened perfectly, executing their pre-planned strategy.

"Patriarch Vaelstrum," Elara explained, her intelligent blue eyes completely calm. "The Pavilion has no personal business in protecting Rhain Voss himself. However, Rhain is engaged to Lyra Emberford."

She looked around the council of elders.

"The Emberford family has become one of the core pillars of the Pavilion’s supply chain and logistics. If the Pavilion stands by and lets the Royal Court execute Rhain, it would drastically destabilize our most vital business partners and allow the Emperor to dictate terms to our allies."

Her tone turned pragmatic and sharp.

"Protecting Rhain is strictly a business move to maintain the Pavilion’s sovereign authority. Furthermore, our intelligence networks have uncovered that Crown Prince Lucius is the one secretly behind the vicious rumors targeting our Pavilion. That makes him a mutual enemy."

The Vaelstrum elders listened, and slowly nodded their heads in deep understanding.

With the political doubts entirely cleared, Rhain returned his focus to the dying Monarch.

He slowly reached into his spatial ring.

"I have prepared something for your Ancestor," Rhain stated.

He retrieved the specialized jade bottle and popped the cork.

WHOOSH—!!!

A pure medicinal fragrance instantly flooded the grand hall.

The scent was so rich with life essence that the Domain Master elders felt their own vitality surge just by breathing it in.

Rhain gently tipped the bottle, presenting the pill within.

The moment the pill was revealed, the entire Vaelstrum inner council, the Patriarch, and even the dying Monarch were utterly astonished.

It was perfectly round and pristine white, but etched flawlessly across its surface were glowing, leaf-like golden lines.

Pill Veins!

The natural laws of heaven and earth had literally manifested on the pill!

"Pill... Pill Veins!" First Elder Draven exclaimed.

None of these ancient elders had ever laid eyes on a Pill-Veined Mystic-Grade pill in their entire lives.

It was a stuff of legend!

Despite his desperate condition, the Ancestor remained cautious, the rumors of the Royal Court lingering in the back of his mind.

He meticulously scanned the glowing pill with his Monarch-level spiritual sense.

Finding zero impurities and not a single trace of demonic taint, the ancestor’s thin hand reached out, and he swallowed the pill without hesitation.

The reaction was instantaneous.

BOOM—!!!

Within seconds, a vibrant surge of life-force erupted within the Monarch’s decaying body.

The withered, grey colour of his skin began to flush with a healthy glow, and his decaying meridians were actively repairing themselves at a visible rate.

The ancestor opened his ancient eyes in pure ecstasy.

"Incredible..." the ancestor breathed, his voice vibrating with a vigor. "This single pill... it vastly surpasses the Emperor-Grade pills we have been buying from Marcellis! If I can consume such pills, perhaps living a few more decades is not a problem."

Overjoyed, the Vaelstrum Patriarch immediately stood up from his seat.

"Grandmaster Korryn! Vaelstrum Clan owes you our Ancestor’s life! We are willing to formally ally with the Academy to protect Rhain Voss!"

But his eyes then turned incredibly solemn.

"However... we are aware that your Pavilion is currently facing an existential threat from the impending duel with the Alchemy Emperor. If you were to fall against Alchemy Emperor Marcellis, the Royal Court will annihilate everything associated with your name, and any clan standing by your side will be dragged into this matter."

Patriarch looked at Rhain’s deep eyes.

"Therefore, if you, Grandmaster Korryn, can defeat Marcellis in the upcoming duel and get the Pavilion out of its current crisis... then the Vaelstrum Clan will formally step forward to protect Rhain Voss with our full military might."

Rhain listened to the Patriarch’s condition in complete silence.

Then, he slowly stood up from his chair.

Beside him, the fourteen domain masters, Vulcan, and Elara also stood up along with him.

*It is good that you are ready to protect Rhain," Rhain spoke, "But the goal of the Celestial Elixir Pavilion has gone far beyond simply protecting a single man."

Vaelstrum elders frowned slightly in confusion.

Rhain placed his hands casually behind his back.

"I had no interest in the petty politics of your Solathane Dynasty," Rhain stated indifferently, his dark grey eyes sweeping across the council. "I merely wanted to run my business in peace. But since Crown Prince Lucius has dared to maliciously plot against my Pavilion and tarnish my name... he will have to pay the price."

Rhain’s gaze locked onto the Patriarch.

"I demand that the Vaelstrum Clan also completely sever your relationship with Lucius."

The words immediately made the atmosphere in the hall extremely tense.

Vaelstrum Patriarch did not answer immediately. He turned his head, looking toward the Ancestor.

Severing their relationship with Lucius meant officially burning the bridge with the Royal Court.

But far more frighteningly, it meant completely severing their relationship with the Alchemy Emperor!

If Grandmaster Korryn somehow failed to sustain the Ancestor’s life in the future, they would have no one else to turn to.

They would be cut off from the only Emperor-rank Alchemist in the dynasty who can save their ancestor!

The frail but recovering Monarch slowly raised his ancient eyes, meeting Rhain’s unyielding gaze.

"Grandmaster Korryn..." the Ancestor spoke, "If we sever our ties with Lucius, we lose our only source of life-sustaining pills. Can you guarantee that you can produce enough of these Pill-Veined Mystic-Grade pills to sustain my life?"

For a second, Rhain’s body seemed to radiate an innate arrogance as if asking this simple question was an insult of his abilities.

"Sustain your life?" Rhain shook his head dismissively.

"Ancestor, you underestimate my capabilities."

Rhain’s voice turned deep, carrying a god-like confidence.

"I can not only produce enough pills to sustain your decaying life force... I can even help you break through your final bottleneck and advance to the middle stage of the Monarch Realm."

"WHAT!!!" multiple elders shrieked involuntarily.

Even the Ancestor’s ancient eyes widened.

"But for that to happen," Rhain continued, "Vaelstrum Clan will have to show enough loyalty to my Celestial Elixir Pavilion."

The grand hall was so silent that one could hear a pin drop.

The Ancestor stared at the middle-aged man standing before him.

The confidence radiating from him was unlike anything the Monarch had witnessed in nearly his thousand years of life.

Slowly, the Ancestor gave a firm nod.

"Very well," the Ancestor declared, "As long as you can defeat Marcellis before the eyes of the entire dynasty... then the Vaelstrum Clan will unconditionally agree to any demands made by your Celestial Elixir Pavilion."

Ancestor’s eyes blazed with a hopeful light.

"We will sever all ties with Lucius, even if it means aggravating the Alchemy Emperor, and stand by your side."
