Chapter 30. Mia Did It

Rosa Lin’s POV

What my eyes were looking at? My mouth can’t tell it all.

I turned back to look at Mia, who was grinning at me, covering her mouth with her hands. I could already read her mind. She was amused by my excitement—or my confusion and my shock—at the luxurious vehicle that I was about to step into. She might not be that surprised. I mean, she must have seen countless luxurious cars, even better than this in her entire lifetime.

I slowly stepped into the vehicle and watched as Mr. Don pressed a button, and the elevated car door slowly descended until it closed shut. The car felt very, very low, almost like I was casually sitting on a chair that had just descended onto the bare ground.

I tilted my head to look at him. He relaxed casually, one hand on the steering wheel, the other hand relaxing against the headrest of the passenger seat as I watched him.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

He raised an eyebrow. "What am I doing what? What do you mean?" he asked.

I gestured around. "This. What is this?" I asked.

He chuckled. "What does it look like? It looks like the car I’m using to take you to school," he said.

I stared at him, my jaw dropping.

"What’s the matter?" he asked, smirking at me.

"This is not funny. Isn’t this a little bit too much?" I asked.

"How is it too much?"

"I mean, this... this lifestyle, this flashy vehicle, it’s definitely going to draw a lot of attention," I said.

He chuckled. "Well, everyone on campus needs to know how rich I am, don’t they?" he said casually, like I wasn’t making sense.

Both of my eyebrows shot up. Oh, you’ve got to be freaking kidding me. Is he seriously being cocky right now?

He looked at me and chuckled at my expression, shaking his head, and then kick-started the vehicle once again. He smiled at me and patted my nose. "Relax, girl. Why do you seem so tense? What’s wrong with that?" he asked.

"Everything is so wrong! If attention is drawn to me and the two of us show up together, then the questions are going to start."

He looked at me with amusement. "God, you are really so cute, slightly paranoid," he said.

"I am not," I snapped.

He chuckled. "I’m actually surprised, though," he said, returning his focus back to me. "The sharp mouth I’m seeing from you right now is... you know, it’s a very stark contrast to the way you are in public. You seem to only have the guts to talk smack when you’re with me. Why is that?" he asked.

My eyelids fluttered, my lips shook. I folded them and quickly looked away, avoiding his gaze.

He chuckled. "Come on, there’s nothing wrong in admitting that I bring out the best part of you."

"Shut up," I said, and he chuckled.

Shaking his head, "Relax, girl. It’s quite okay for you to be free around me. After all, I’m your relative," he said with a smile. "So chill, okay?"

I nodded my head slowly without looking at him. He smiled.

"Cocky bastard," I muttered under my breath.

"I heard that," he said.

I smiled, unable to keep it off my face, and kept my gaze plastered on the window.

He then started the vehicle and began to swerve out of Mia’s large compound. The moment we were almost out, I turned to look at him.

"How did you get my number?" I asked out of the blue.

He raised both of his eyebrows, still keeping his gaze ahead on the windshield. "I have my ways," he said with a smile. "Do you really want to know the details?" he asked.

"Yes, I do," I replied.

He chuckled. "No, you don’t. Don’t worry, just keep it in mind that I felt the need to have a good conversation with you, and I found your number one way or another."

I raised an eyebrow. "Cocky bastard," I repeated.

He chuckled. "Call me that one more time and I might have to impale you with my body against the door," he said.

My face flushed instantly. "What?" I asked, turning to him.

"You heard me," he said.

I scoffed and shook my head. Is he flirting with me? I began to rub my hand against my temples. Quit it, Rosa, I thought to myself. Don’t be so stupid. Why would he—why would he do that? But I couldn’t stop the super-fast pounding of my heart in my chest. I couldn’t help the giggle that escaped me as I shook my head. What did he mean by "impale me against the car door"? I shook my head, trying to wipe the thoughts away.

All of a sudden, I felt his heated gaze. But before I could turn to him, he spoke up.

"What the hell is that?" he asked with sharpness in his tone.

I flinched. I quickly turned around to look at him. I saw that he had his eyes implanted on the left side of my neck that was visible to him.

My eyes widened. Oh my god... the bite mark hickey. I thought I had covered it with a scarf.

My hand instinctively moved towards my neck, and I realized that the scarf had already slipped slightly. How the hell did I not notice? I hurriedly took it and began to use it to cover my neck as quickly as I could, my eyelids shaking as I looked back at him.

He was glaring at me now. There was displeasure in his eyes.

"What’s that?" he asked once again.

This time, he pulled the vehicle up at the entrance of Mia’s compound, not completely stepping out. I jolted forward due to the impact of how he pressed the brakes. It was only the seatbelt that kept me from hitting my teeth against the dashboard. I blinked and turned to look at him.

"Um..." I opened my mouth, but no words could come out.

"Rosa," he called once again. "What is that, and how did you get it?" he asked.

I swallowed. "Um... I... it’s... it was... just... it’s..." I didn’t even know what to say right now. The anger in his expression had completely fried my brain. Normally, I would have just maybe gone straight to the point and related my mysterious, supernatural dream and all of that, but I couldn’t bring myself to say anything.

I saw him curse and then press his back against the seat, resting against the edge of his window with his hand and pressing against his jaw. He looked incredibly furious.

"Who did that to you?" he asked. "Who’s the guy?" he asked all of a sudden.

I frowned. "Th-Th-There is no guy," I said.

He scoffed and turned back to me, his eyes flashing, blazing hot. "Don’t play games with me," he snapped.

"It’s nobody," I said. "I assure you, I don’t... I just... I want..." I didn’t know what to say. I finally avoided his gaze and looked down at my fingers, fidgeting with them. Why the hell is he so suddenly angry, this much?

The heat all over the car was so intense. My heart raced, my pulse thudded wildly all over my body. I heard his sharp intake of breath. Then he gripped the steering wheel, resumed driving, and then quickly drove out of Mia’s premises. He remained silent as the vehicle roared through the city. I diverted my focus to look at him. I saw his jaw working together, his muscles contracting.

I let out a soft breath. God, I really so much regret not hiding it properly from him. I let out a soft breath. A piercing, hot feeling was tearing through my chest. I couldn’t fight it. I adjusted in my chair, turning, angling to the side to look at him.

"Hey," I said.

He didn’t bother to look at me. He was genuinely furious. I was supposed to be questioning that, but for some strange reason, it made me feel guilty. It made me feel like I needed to apologize to him. Why? Why? I just couldn’t help myself with it.

I closed my eyes and let out a soft breath. "I’m so sorry, okay?" I said quickly. He didn’t turn to look at me. "It’s nobody," I said quickly. "You don’t really have to be angry about this. I mean, why should you be?" I said.

I saw him jolt his head to look at me sharply. The movement made me flinch. I looked at him with wide eyes. He glared at me, but after a while, he cursed and turned away, returning his focus back ahead of him. He must have realized I was right.

"Look, it’s nobody," I said. "So, it’s a weird little story," I said, thinking rapidly to come up with something in my head so fast.

"Go on, I’m listening," he said.

I swallowed hard. You can’t tell him about the dream. Think of something. I gnashed my teeth together. "So... you’re not going to believe it, and it’s going to be very, very weird," I said.

"Stop putting me through tension, Rosa. Just go straight to the point and tell me what the fuck happened to you. Is it some guy? Did somebody hurt you? Is it Mac?" he asked all of a sudden.

I frowned. "No, it’s not Mac, okay? After that day when you caught him harassing me, he hasn’t approached me again. And it’s good, I guess you must have frightened him."

"So who is it?" he asked. "One of the stupid boys in school mistaking you for a slut?" he asked all of a sudden.

"Why this agitated about it? I mean, it’s my body, not yours," I said.

He opened his mouth, but I saw that no words came out. He closed his mouth and then turned back to look ahead of him, still obviously trying to contain his temper.

"I’m losing my patience, Rosa. Tell me who did it."

I clenched my fists tight together. Think, Rosa. Think. How do you explain this to him without getting him more agitated? There has to be a way, something he can just blindly ignore and maybe not take up too seriously.

I blew out a soft breath. A thought came to my mind. Oh god, I thought to myself. This is going to be so fucking weird. Then I let out a soft breath. Just get on with it, Rosa. It’s the only option available.

"Mia did it."
