Chapter 31. Hot And Sharp

Rosa Lin’s POV

"Mia." His voice echoed in the car. His eyelids sharpened into slits as he stared at me suspiciously.

"I don’t understand," he said casually.

I grinned and chuckled nervously, scratching my neck. "Funny, isn’t it?" I said, and then avoided his gaze, looking out the window. "It just happened. Very funny. We were just kind of doing some sort of role-play and just goofing around, and then she just clamped down her mouth against my neck and sucked and... poof, the hickey just came out of nowhere," I said.

A nervous chuckle escaped me.

He had his gaze on me, eyes widened and eyebrows raised like he really thought I was stupid.

"You’ve got to be kidding me," he said.

"No kidding," I said, twirling my hair with my fingers.

"So, you are kidding me," he asked.

I quickly shook my head. "No, no, no. That... that’s not... that’s not what I meant, for real. I just..." I looked at him, my lips wide open. His eyebrows raised up in expectation.

I quickly shook my head. "That’s just what happened, for real. I... I have nothing to say," I said, and avoided his gaze.

There was a heavy silence for a while. I felt the tension climbing. I ground my teeth together. Good Lord, please let him buy it. I can no longer continue with this topic. Stupid. Stupid, Rosa. You could have hidden the mark so well. I can’t begin to tell the story that is going to make everyone think I’m supposed to be in some sort of infirmary or psychiatric hospital.

After a while, I heard him let out a sharp breath beside me. "So, what’s the story now? Are you gay?"

That sentence made something spark in my brain. My eyelids twitched. My eyes widened. I slowly tilted my head to look back at him. "Hell no," I said.

"So," he asked.

I chuckled. "Didn’t you hear what I said? It just... it was a role-play, okay? And it was a mistake. I didn’t expect it to happen. Neither did she. It just... it just happened," I said.

He stared at me with his eyebrows raised. "Yeah. You were role-playing, and she just, all of a sudden, stared at your neck and felt like, ’Ooh, role-play.’ She bit you, and the hickey materialized out of thin air? Definitely not her lipstick, right?" he asked.

I looked at him blankly. I could see the disbelief in his eyes. I closed my eyes and let out a soft breath. "Can we just forget about this? That’s what happened, and I’m not explaining any further."

"I don’t believe you," he said sharply.

"Yeah, well, keep disbelieving all you want," I said. Then I turned away again.

He still didn’t bother to say anything after a while. When I didn’t hear him speak, I slowly turned my head to look back at him. He was glaring at me. His stare was very cold this time—intense, sharp like slits.

Oh my God. It set my heart racing without control. I clenched my fingers together. His gaze felt so hot, like he literally wanted to kill me with it.

I opened my mouth, finding myself faltering. "Okay, can you... can you please just quit it, okay? I’m sorry, okay? Why... why do I even have to explain myself to you? Come on, it’s my life, for heaven’s sake. It was a mistake. Nothing is happening between us. We are definitely not gay. Mia regrets it, and... well, she told me she’s going to get a treatment to wipe off the hickey within a few days, so it’s nothing to worry about," I said, and stared ahead of me.

He still didn’t say anything. When I sighed and tilted my head to look at him, I saw that he was smirking. He chuckled and shook his head.

I frowned. "What’s so funny?" I asked.

He turned back to look at me. "You don’t necessarily have to explain yourself to me," he said, with that cocky smirk back on his face. "It’s not like you are my girlfriend," he added, and then pulled the gear of the vehicle. He then slowly resumed the journey away from Mia’s compound.

I frowned intensely at him. "Oh, really? Is that... is that what you have in your mind right now?" I asked.

"Obviously," he replied.

"Well, now that you mentioned it, I am starting to remember a certain someone getting infuriated after seeing the mark... doesn’t that sound like a possessive act?" I asked. I saw his fingers clench tightly against the steering wheel.

"I wasn’t angry. I was just, you know, a little bit irritated. I hate seeing marks like that, especially on young girls like you. It’s irritating. Makes me think whoever inflicted it is a pervert," he said, without looking back at me.

I am stunned right now, staring at him with my jaw dropped. I really do not understand this guy.

"You are unbelievable," I said.

He chuckled. "Relax, girl," he said. "I was just disappointed and worried. I don’t want you getting engaged in dirty relationships. You are still too young for that. And now that I’m the only relative available in your life, it’s my job to watch over you and ensure that you focus and stay on track with the right path in life, not getting entangled with dirty-minded people that would taint your future," he said.

"I am not getting myself involved in dirty relationships," I said.

He looked at me with a raised eyebrow. "Really?" he asked.

I gnashed my teeth at him. "I’ve told you it was Mia, and it was just a goofy play."

He nodded and said slowly, "Yeah, right. I believe you."

I clenched my fists tight. I want to punch him so hard. I scoffed and turned away, folding my arms with a huff and looking out the window.

He chuckled beside me. The rest of the ride was silent. Neither of us said anything, but I could constantly feel his gaze darting back to me at intervals, like he was waiting for a reaction, waiting for me to say something. Yeah, he’s going to wait till hell before I ever say anything back to him, teasing me with that stupid cute face of his.

We finally got to school. And true to his words, he followed through the official section of the school, totally avoiding the public section where the students were going to be.

I finally let out a soft breath as he parked the Lamborghini, the car that was bound to draw a lot of attention. The official park was empty. Seems like most of the lecturers must have already headed over to their first lectures, or some might still be in their office. Nonetheless, the park was silent.

He killed the ignition, and then turned to look at me.

"Thank you," I said quickly, and gripped the handle of the car, about to push it open when I remembered it was a Lamborghini, and it didn’t open the normal way.

Just great.

Exactly what I needed.

I then tried to push it up. He didn’t make a move, didn’t try to assist me. The door didn’t move. I groaned and struggled, trying to use all my strength to push it up. It didn’t budge.

I turned to look at him. "Are you just going to sit there getting off on my suffering?" I asked.

He smirked at me. "I have no intention of letting you leave yet," he said.

I frowned. "Why? I have class this morning," I said.

He smiled. "I just wanted to ask a simple question," he said.

I sighed, then I leaned back against the chair and folded my arms, brushing a strand of hair that had stuck to my nose behind my ear. "What is it?" I asked.

He smiled at me. His gaze was intense. I could see his sharp brown eyes tracking my expression, darting all over my face. I saw the moment it dropped to my lips. Something warm and tingling flooded my nerve endings. I blinked. My breath hitched, but I managed to comport myself. His eyes then darted back towards my face.

"I just wanted to ask when you are coming back to pick your luggage?"

I bit against my tongue when he asked that. Then I tilted my eyes to the side.

Yeah, right. About that... I don’t know why I’ve been reluctant to go back to retrieve my luggage. Maybe because deep down within me, something didn’t want me to leave that apartment, that mansion, that luxurious place. I was having a hard time deciding whether to stay with him or not. If I was to stay there alone, it would have been easy. I wouldn’t need to think twice about it. But staying with him... that’s a very hard choice. And I didn’t want to leave that place.

I shook my head. "I’m having a headache right now. I don’t want to be thinking about this. I’ll come and pick it up anytime soon," I said, and tried to push the door open again. But then I remembered my predicament. I turned back to him. "Can you please open the door for me?" I asked.

He raised both of his eyebrows. I saw the smirk on his lips, the amusement dancing in his eyes.

"Nah, I don’t think I’m ready to let you go yet," he said.

I frowned. "Why?" I asked, my hand resting against my lap.

He didn’t say anything. His gaze suddenly became serious, staring at me non-stop.

I tried to gauge what he was thinking, trying to figure out what was going on through his mind, but it was difficult. We stared at each other. He didn’t look away. The silence began to stretch far too long for comfort. My heart picked up speed. Why is he staring at me like that? I can’t keep up with the staring contest.

I blinked and avoided his gaze, staring at my fingers. That was when I saw his hand shift over towards my lap, resting against my arms, and then tracing his thumb slowly against my knuckles.

I felt something twist, hot and sharp, in my gut.

Okay, what the fuck?
