Chapter 38. A Second Round

Rosa Lin’s POV

"Mac, please, can you please just stop? This is ridiculous. You’ve got everything wrong. You are misreading a lot of things right here. You are just going to punish an innocent person. Please just stop," I said desperately, holding his hand.

He shoved my hand away, glaring at me. I can’t understand his anger. I can’t understand his motivation or why he’s doing this. He’s confusing me in so many ways. I expected that after what he had done to me, he would have let go, ignored me. But why does he keep coming after me? What does he want from me?

He ignored me and continued walking.

"Mac!" I exclaimed.

I caught sight of an official stepping out of a lecture hall. He stopped and noticed the both of us.

"Hey, what are the both of you doing here? Don’t you have lectures?"

Mac waved his hand. He diverted his focus and looked at him. "Oh, it’s you, Mr. Lee," he said.

Mac smiled. "Oh, I’m just here to meet the admin. It’s nothing really serious." Then he tried to look at me. "She? I don’t know what she’s doing here. She’s being a pest," he said.

I frowned. I quickly turned back to look at him and shook my head. "Nope. We are together."

I saw the way he was glaring at me.

"Are you sure?" He asked. I could instantly see the judging expression in his eyes.

"Yep."

I guess the work of Mac in tarnishing my reputation has even gone far beyond the students and even to the rest of the officials of this campus. I clenched my teeth together.

"I am sure," I said.

Mac just rolled his eyes and continued walking. I felt confused. My eyes darted from him back to Mac at intervals. But then I followed him quickly.

Just as he walked around towards another corridor, I rushed around him and stood in front of him. "Mac, please," I said.

He raised an eyebrow. "Go and meet your slutty boyfriend," he snapped. Then he tried to walk around me.

I stopped in front of him, anger gracing my voice. "I don’t understand you!" I exclaimed.

He stopped and looked at me.

"What’s your problem? Why are you doing this? Aren’t you done making my life hell? You have done enough, Mac, okay? I can’t even raise my head up wherever I go. My life is an official mess. It’s destroyed, thanks to you, and I’m not fighting you for it. I’m not asking anything from you for it. What do you want? Why are you doing this to me? You know this is wrong. Mr. Don did that on purpose just to infuriate you. He doesn’t really mean it. There is really nothing going on between the both of us."

I saw Mac stare at me with a raised eyebrow, his face blank. He folded his arms, and the realization hit me that he didn’t believe that.

"Why would he kiss your cheeks like that if there was nothing going on with you?" he asked.

"There is really nothing going on!" I exclaimed. I felt frustrated. I placed my hand against my throbbing skull. Then I looked back at him. "Please, just don’t. Why do you care? Why are you doing this? He’s not my boyfriend."

"Well, the fact remains that he still kissed you," he said, trying to walk around me.

"Oh my God." I held his arm. "Mac, please don’t do this to me. I don’t want a repetition of last semester. Please," I said.

He continued to ignore me.

"Mac!" I said. I tried to grab his phone from him, but he moved it away.

"Do I look like I’m kidding? Step out of my way," he snapped.

"Mac!" I said, my voice breaking this time.

He scoffed. "Don’t blame me. It’s not my fault you can’t keep your pants on," he said.

I ground my teeth. "Are you fucking hearing me?"

"No," he said, and tried to walk around me.

God, I wanted to punch him so hard in the face. Conflicted emotions flooded my mind. I stood in front of him again. I felt weak. My hair was pressed against my face, now drenched through the slickness of the sweat that had seeped out of my pores while rushing to catch up with him.

I saw the moment he froze and looked at me. My heart was weak. Everywhere was weak. I felt limp as I stared down at his shoes. I saw his legs retract slowly. Then he exhaled heavily.

"Fine," he said.

I slowly tilted my head up to look at him.

"I won’t deliver this," he said, displaying his phone in his hands. "But on one condition."

I frowned. Then I rolled my eyes and tilted my head to the side. Of course, I should have expected that this wasn’t going to come without a payback. I gritted my teeth together. I am already dreading what his request will be. Really, really dreading it. I don’t want to hear it, but I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt.

"Fine, what do you want?" I asked.

I saw him smirk at me. "It’s quite simple," he said. "I want a repetition of what happened last semester."

I frowned. "No fucking way," I said.

He chuckled. "Relax. I’m not talking about the humiliation. I’m talking about what we did," he said. "I want to have a taste of you again."

My head sparked. Is he fucking kidding me? "You’re stupid," I said with my voice shaking.

He chuckled. "Well, I tried my best," he said with a shrug. "Your secret will be out." He started to walk around me.

I stood in front of him, closing my eyes, feeling totally weak. "Why are you doing this?" My voice was broken now. My hair fell over my face. I was exhausted. "Why are you doing this to me? Haven’t you done enough?" I asked.

I couldn’t hold it back anymore. My eyes prickled. I felt the tears slipping out. I blinked, trying to shove them back in, but it was fruitless. I saw the way he frowned at me, staring into my eyes.

"Just please stop," I said with a broken voice. "It’s too much. You have damaged me already. Please."

He stared at me for a while, then he looked up at the ceiling and exhaled, brushing his fingers against his nose. He opened his mouth, but no words came out. I saw him close his eyes and tilt his head to the ground like he was thinking, or trying to fight something.

"What is it?" I asked. "If there is anything I have done to wrong you, tell me. I swear to God, I’m going to make it right. Please just stop doing this to me."

I saw him look back up at me, but there was anger in his eyes. "It’s because of Mr. Don," he said.

I frowned. "What?" I asked. "What does this have to do with Mr. Don?"

"Because you are mine, Rosa!" he suddenly exclaimed out of the blue.

I flinched. I saw him turn around and rake his fingers through his hair, like he hadn’t expected himself to say that.

I was confused. "What do you mean?"

He scoffed and shook his head. "I can’t allow anyone else to have you," he said. His eyes were literally red right now. He meant it.

I lifted up both of my hands in exasperation. "What the fuck is wrong with you?" I asked. "You are seriously confusing me, Mac. Just what is it? Are you sick in the brain?"

He glared at me and stepped closer. The force of his movement made me flinch. I stepped back and found myself pressed against the wall as he leaned so close, gazing down at me.

"Did he brainwash you?" he asked, glaring down at me.

I scoffed. "There is nothing going on between us! Aren’t you hearing anything I am saying? And what the hell is with you? If you really did care so much, why did you hurt me when I gave myself to you out of how I felt?"

I saw his lips shake as he looked down at me, his eyes raking over my face. "Don’t you still feel the same way?"

I scoffed and rolled my eyes. "You ruined it, Mac," I said. "Not anymore. I’m done. I don’t feel that way anymore. I’m so done with you. How do you expect me to feel that way after what you did? Do you think I could take it?"

I saw his face fall for a moment—something brief, like regret, flooded his face—but then he screwed his face into a scowl, like he wasn’t going to accept it. "You’ve always liked me, Rosa. There’s no freaking way you can just get rid of your feelings like that," he said.

I scoffed and rolled my eyes. "The irony of life," I said. "So you knew? You’ve always known how much I felt towards you. Why did you do that? Why did you ignore me? Why did you make me feel like a fool all the while I stayed with you? Just what is your game plan? I can’t understand you."

I saw him open his lips. He tilted his head to the side with his eyes closed, like he was trying to restrain himself, then let out a soft breath. "Look," he said calmly. "Okay, I admit," he said softly. "I was wrong."

When he opened his eyes, there was genuine sadness in them.

What? I felt like my brain was about to leak out of my ears. What the hell is going on?

He leaned even closer, placing his hand against my shoulder. "I made a mistake, a very terrible one, and I have not been able to forget about it."

My jaw dropped. I must be in a dream right now. I scoffed and shook my head. I shoved his hand away from my shoulder. "What is this? Some kind of game?"

"No, this is not a game," he said, stepping closer.

I shoved his hand for the second time, staring at him with a frown, disbelief coursing through my expression.

"I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you, Rosa. It’s driving me mad. It’s fucking driving me crazy. My mind is just... my brain is just all over the place. I am freaking losing it. Please, you have to listen to me."

What the... I thought to myself, staring at him with a frown.

At that same moment, I heard the clutter of endless footsteps. Countless doors swung open—about three of them—and then students casually stepped out of lecture halls, chattering to themselves. They instantly froze when they caught sight of us in the hallway.

I flinched and clutched the straps of my backpack, brushing my fingers through my hair and avoiding their stares—anything I could do to hide myself from the scrutiny. They were all looking at us right now. I saw Mac quickly step away from me, as if he hadn’t been trying to press himself up against me.

"Well, well, well, isn’t this interesting?" A familiar voice struck my consciousness.

I looked up. I recognized the voice. It was one of Mac’s friends. I can barely remember his name anyway—not like I’ve ever gotten myself involved with his clique. He wrapped his arm around Mac’s shoulder. He was the one who knew how to add fuel to the fire, the one who knew how to light up the powder keg.

I swallowed hard. I think I need to leave right now.

I turned to go, but he grabbed my arm and pulled me back. "Come on," he said. "Don’t be shy now. I would actually love to know what the story is right now." His eyes darted from Mac back to me. "Tell us, Mac, was she asking for it again?"

My eyelids fluttered. I tried to leave, but he grabbed my shoulders and pulled me back, pressing me hard against the wall.

"Come on, don’t be disobedient," he said.

I ground my teeth together as I glared at him. I looked at Mac. Come to my defense. Tell him the truth, I thought.

I saw Mac looking confused. His eyes darted from the fellow who had his arm around his shoulder, then back to me. I stared at him intensely, mustering the softest, most pitiful expression I could bring up.

Please, I thought to myself, letting it reflect through my eyes.

I saw the moment Mac’s smile expanded on his lips. He chuckled. "Yeah, you’re right," he said casually. "Definitely requesting a second round."
