Chapter 720: Chapter 720: Ciel vs Mutants (Part 1)
Point-of-View: Ciel Campbell

"<You know you didn’t have to make me walk, right? You could’ve just waited till we got there before summoning me>," Sighed Rex, as he dragged his feet along.
"Aw, come on, I wanted to walk with you, what’s the harm?" I replied with a grin, playfully bumping my shoulder against his.
"<Would’ve been nice to have had a choice in the matter, that’s all I’m saying>."
"Yeah, but you would’ve said no."
"<Of course>."
We were currently on a Quest to hunt down a dangerous Mutant that had appeared near Sanctuary Beta. It’s a Catastrophe Level Mutant that’s set up residence dangerously close to the Sanctuary.
Originally, the Union was going to assign Ariella to this Quest, while I was going to be sent on a Quest to wipe out a group of Calamity Level Mutants. But I wanted a challenge, so I asked her to switch with me, which she was fine with.
The Catastrophe Level Mutant I need to take down isn’t fully grown, so it’s not as powerful as it could be...but according to a report from a team of scouts, it has a Power Level on par with the Demon Lord’s Sentinels, so it should hopefully put up a real fight.
The Angels turned out to be kinda disappointing. While those fights weren’t exactly easy, they simply didn’t have the skills to make any real use of the immense power they’d been granted.
Baraqiel at least was able to somewhat adapt and improve on the fly throughout the course of our fight with him, but the one Cleo, Rex and I fought was almost comically incompetent. And Kai completely solo’d the third and supposedly most powerful one.
Despite being granted the least amount of power among the three Angels, Baraqiel was the easily the biggest threat we faced during the trial. Well, unless we count Ariella, who Kai was forced to fight.
"<Looks like we’re here>," Muttered Rex, peering around the corner as we walked around a large rock formation.
I quietly peeked out to get a look, my eyes widening slightly. Woah, that thing’s massive. It looks even bigger than the Dragons from the Monster world.
"Holy shit, and this one’s apparently not even fully grown, right?" I whispered incredulously.
"<Based on what the Union told us, this one’s currently at around a third of the way grown. In other words, it’ll be around three times bigger when it’s fully grown. You really weren’t paying attention, were you>?" He sighed in exasperation, before turning his gaze back to the Mutant as it shifted slightly.
It’s a Dune Scorpion, a super massive scorpion creature that usually lives in deserts, but this one’s wandered a bit of a distance away from its usual habitat. Based on what I remember the Union telling us about this species, these creatures can fire out powerful blasts of sand. They also have deadly venom in their stingers, along with powerful, crushing pincers and an extremely durable exoskeleton.
"Ready to do this?" I grinned, cracking my knuckles.
"<Yeah, I guess so. Also, be careful not to get hit with that stinger. You only have Mid Status Effect Resistance, so the venom will affect you>," He warned me.
"In that case, I’ll be counting on you to make sure I don’t get hit," I replied with a wry smile.
"<...let’s just get this over with>."
"Alright, here goes...<Spirit Fusion, Ghost: Rex>!" I chanted as I simultaneously took off my Suppression Ring and unleashed my Aura.
The Dune Scorpion woke up with a jolt, a chittering screech ringing out as it spun around this way and rushed towards us with immense speed. A glow appeared around my entire body as my hair turned white and my eyes red, before I took aim and fired out a rapid explosive blast towards the massive Scorpion.
The Mutant swung its left pincer across as my blast closed in on it, a fierce exploding erupting upon impact, a small crack appearing on the pincer. Wow, that’s all the damage I inflicted?
Damn, this thing’s got one seriously durable exoskeleton...
"<H-Hey, calm down, I can feel the surge of excitement in you, please control yours-...>," Began Rex in alarm.
"O-Oh, wow...with that level of durability, I...I don’t have to hold anything back!" I exclaimed gleefully, before blasting myself high up into the air as the Dune Scorpion closed in on.
A wide grin spread out across my lips as I then launched myself straight back down, extending out my Explosion Blade. The Dune Scorpion rapidly whipped its stinger towards me as I closed in, as I simultaneously swung my Explosion Blade across.
A deafening blast rang out as my blade of concentrated, explosive energy collided against the Mutant’s stinger, the large appendage getting blown back as several cracks spread out across the exoskeleton around that spot. That did some damage, but the cracks are still shallow, even my Explosion Blade is-...
My train of through was cut off as the Dune Scorpion rapidly spun around and viciously thrust one of its pincers at me, before phasing right through me.
As its pincer and arm whizzed through my body, I raised by Explosion Blade through the middle of its arm, between the segments in its exoskeleton...before turning the blade tangible again.
A devastating blast rang out as dozens of explosions burst out of the blade in rapid succession, the Dune Scorpion’s exoskeleton around that spot cracking rapidly, before rupturing as the cracks deepened.
The Mutant screeched and thrashed violently as a viscous liquid sprayed out, right as my Explosion Blade blasted its arm clear off, the gloopy liquid violently gushing out and splattering across the ground as I flew up into the air.
I shuddered as my heart began racing, my breathing getting heavier and heavier as I felt a sense of ecstacy welling up.
"<Uh...Ciel>?"
"H-Holy shit, that felt...that felt incredible! That constant stream of explosions, the impact and reverberations through the Scorpion’s arm with each blast...! I...I wanna feel that again!"
