Chapter 721: Chapter 721: Ciel vs Mutants (Part 2)
Point-of-View: Ciel Campbell

"<Hey. Hey! Please snap out of it and compose yourself, Ciel>," Sighed Rex, sounding concerned.
No way, absolutely not. I’ve got the perfect target for my explosions, I wanna see how much force this thing can tank!
Suddenly, the Dune Scorpion stood up on four of its hind legs, lifting its head up towards me before firing out a massive gust of sand from its mouth. I swiftly countered with a blast of wind, but it wasn’t strong enough, only dispersing some of the sand.
I fired off an explosion to send myself hurtling across to the right, avoiding the sand before launching a swirling explosive blast down towards the Dune Scorpion.
The Mutant whipped its stinger across, striking the blast and triggering it. A loud boom rang out as it exploded fiercely, cracks appearing on the back of its stinger.
I then swooped down at top speed, before putting on a sharp burst of speed as I triggered an explosion behind myself, driving my Explosion Blade towards the base of its stinger.
As the blade collided against that spot, several immensely powerful explosions erupted in rapid succession as I drove it in, the exoskeleton cracking and rupturing. The Dune Scorpion shook me off with a screech and swung its remaining pincer at me, which phased through my body as I ascended back into the air.
Damn, that thing’s crazy fast for its size, I-...
"<Why didn’t you phase your Explosion Blade into its body like you did with its arm>?"
That’d be too easy. This is more fun!
"<You know we only have five minutes, right? Please don’t waste our Spirit Fusion, you’ll seriously struggle against this thing without my intangibility>."
Ughhh...damn it, you have a point. Fine, I’ll take this more seriously.
I let out a disappointed sigh as I raised my left hand up, a swirling mass of explosive energy manifesting and rapidly expanding as I fueled it as much as I could. As I intensified and concentrated the mass of energy, forming a massive explosive sphere, I veered across the air as another blast of sand came shooting up towards me, evading it before swinging my arm down and chanting as I launched my charged up attack towards the Dune Scorpion...
"[Explosion Nova]!"
The Dune Scorpion began to skitter away as the explosive mass of energy barreled down, but even with its speed, the creature was far too large to get itself out of the way in time. The sphere collided against its lower back with a devastating impact, a massive shockwave erupting out with immense force as the sphere exploded with an earth-shattering boom.
The explosive energy expanded massively and swirled around with immense force, carving out a crater in the ground as massive clouds of dust burst out, the ground splitting open as huge cracks spread out and expanded, the entire area shaking and rumbling violently.
I shuddered as I felt a chill down my spine, the secondary shockwaves from the blast bursting out and hitting me, goosebumps appearing across my arms.
"<See, you can have fun without messing around>," Remarked Rex, as the explosion petered out, the rumbling starting to settle as the dust clouds began to disperse.
Yeah, but it would’ve been more fun if I’d taken more time to savor it.
It wasn’t long before the Dune Scorpion came back into sight, at the bottom of the deep crater that had formed in the ground. Its back was devastated, the exoskeleton deeply indented and cracked all over, with that viscous liquid oozing out and dripping down its sides.
The base of its stinger had several deep cracks as well, and a couple of its back legs were broken and bent in the wrong direction. Damn, it even tanked that? I mean, it’s badly injured, but it’s still alive.
The Scorpion screeched viciously in rage as it rapidly skittered out of the crater and-...huh?
I stared in bemusement as it suddenly leapt up towards me, launching its massive body several meters into the air. I veered back as it began to close in me, the large creature ascending up above me before unleashing a powerful, pressurized gust of sand at me from its mouth.
The attack phased through my body, the Mutant snapping its stinger at me as it began to plummet back down, which also phased right through, of course.
A deafening crash rang out as it landed on the ground with immense force, before I swooped down towards it rapidly. It screeched sharply and swung its stinger at me with immense speed, which I passed right through before driving my Explosion Blade towards the middle of its back.
I phased the blade through its exoskeleton, before turning it tangible as I plunged about half the length of the blade into its body. The Dune Scorpion seized up sharply as the blade repeatedly erupted inside its body, shards of its exoskeleton around that spot getting blasted off as deep cracks rapidly spread out around the blade.
The creature whipped its stinger at my head, to no avail. I then rapidly raced along its back, dragging the Explosion Blade forward and blasting its insides while splitting its exoskeleton open. It was frantically trying to claw and hit me off with its pincer and stinger, but it was no use, all of its attacks phased right through.
I came to a halt as I reached its neck, getting down on one knee and plunging the blade deeper in. The viscous liquid burst out of its mouth as my Explosion Blade repeatedly blasted the inside of its neck, the exoskeleton violently rupturing and ripping open...before its head got blown clean off, getting launched through the air with a rapid spin and crashing onto the ground several meters ahead.
A loud crash rang out as its body slammed onto the dirt, puffs of dust rising up around it as the liquid gushed out of the stump left around its neck, pooling on the ground and slowly seeping in.
I then withdrew my Explosion Blade and hopped off the Dune Scorpion’s back, my feet hitting the ground with a soft thud as I stretched my arms up with a content smile. Damn, that felt good.
"<Nicely done, and with some time to spare too>," Spoke up Rex encouragingly.
Heh, thanks, I-...hm? Wait, exactly how much time do we have left with Spirit Fusion?
"<About half a minute now>."
What? Dude! I totally could’ve afforded to take my time a bit more!
"<Yeah, no, saving the finishing blow for the last second would’ve been a bad idea. Without intangibility, do you think you could’ve evaded that Mutant’s attacks with just your physical prowess>?" He responded bluntly.
...no. Even with the power boost I get from our Spirit Fusion, that thing’s attacks were too fast for me to dodge, no way I’d be able to avoid it in my base form. I’d be lying if I said otherwise.
"<Exactly>."
