Chapter 722: Aria vs Mutants

Chapter 722: Chapter 722: Aria vs Mutants

Point-of-View: Ariella Velle

———————————————————————————

"Maybe I should’ve stood my ground instead of letting Ciel talk me into swapping Quests. This is just...way too easy," I sighed wistfully, glancing up as a Mutant came swooping down towards me with a roar.

I leapt towards it as it closed in and grabbed its head, unleashing a fierce burst of red flames and setting its head ablaze, roasting it to ashes in a matter of seconds.

I’m currently atop a mountain to the north of Sanctuary Gamma, in Europe, where a flock of Mutants known as Chimeras had built their nest.

Chimeras mostly look like lions, with a bunch of other stuff mixed in. They had curved, sharp horns on either side of their heads, large feathered wings and their tails were literal snakes, with potent venom in their fangs.

They’ve got powerful, crushing jaws and immense physical strength, with sharp fangs and claws. Well, claws on their front legs, anyway. Their back legs had talons instead.

Physically, they’re each about as strong as an average Archdemon. Which, at my current level, really doesn’t pose me much of a threat. Alright, let’s see...I’ve still got five more of them to deal with, a quarter of the number when I first attacked.

I was currently using Spirit Fusion with Superbia, along with Blaze Ignition: Supernova, which puts my current Power Level at a bit over eight million. The physical features I gain from this Spirit Fusion have been completely shrouded by the fiery glow and flaming hair I get from Blaze Ignition: Supernova, though.

"<While I am happy you decided to choose me for this, why not go with one of the stronger Apostles, maybe Avaritia>?" Suggested Superbia.

Well, that’s not a very prideful thing to say, Miss Apostle of Pride. Honestly, I didn’t really put much thought into it, I just like using your Skills. And on that note...

I sprang back as a Chimera swooped down towards and whipped its snake tail at my neck, the snake head letting out a sharp hiss as it got singed from the heat emanating around me.

The Chimera then spun around and lunged at me with a roar, swinging its claws at me repeatedly, using its wings and hind legs to prop itself up while slashing at me with its claws, burns appearing on its fur as I weaved back through the space and evaded its swipes.

As two more of the Chimeras swooped down, I grabbed the left arm of the one in front of me, eliciting a sharp roar of pain as a powerful fiery burst erupted upon contact, breaking the bones in its arm with a crunch.

I then suppressed the explosive flame effect and tightened my grasp on its broken arm, the heat around my hand burning through its fur and skin, searing its flesh as I chanted while driving my left fist forward...

"<Unstoppable Force>!"

The Chimera’s head vanished in an instant, a thick mist of blood bursting out as I obliterated its head in the blink of an eye. Blood gushed out of its neck and streamed down its body as it fell over and hit the ground, right as the other two Chimeras closed in on me.

I turned across as I lifted my gaze and leapt straight towards one of them, tilting my head across as it drove its claws towards the side of my head. I grabbed its other arm as I fired out jets of flames from the soles of my feet to hover in midair, twisting my body across as I rapidly spun around and hurled the Chimera at the other one, the pair plummeting and collapsing in a heap as they crashed onto each other.

I swerved across the air as another one swooped down behind me, snapping its jaws at my back. I then combined Negative Energy with my flames and unleashed a devastating blast of black flames at the Mutant, scorching the right side of its head to ash and killing it.

As the pair that had collapsed on the ground began to pick themselves, I blasted myself down towards them with an intense, fiery burst, driving my feet down with immense force.

One of them managed to scramble out of the way, before I slammed my feet down onto the head of the other one, a loud crunch ringing out as I crushed its skull and smashed its brain to a pulp, a sharp sizzle echoing out as the heat around my feet seared the bloody sludge.

The other one then lunged at me with a vicious snarl, right as I fired out a rapid, piercing beam of Negative Energy through its skull, shooting out the back of its head and killing it before it could reach me.

And that just leaves one more...

I glanced back as the last remaining Chimera sprang out from behind a nearby boulder and leapt towards me with a feral snarl, before I spun around and lunged forward as I got slow, slipping below the Mutant.

The creature stiffened and began to lower its gaze, starting to strike at me with its tail, right as I unfurled a rapid uppercut and swung my right fist up at full force. A devastating fiery explosion burst out upon impact, blasting a massive hole through its chest as the force drilled through and ripped open its body, blood bursting out before promptly evaporating as it splattered on me, the heat around me turning the blood to steam immediately upon contact.

"Nice try at a sneak attack, but unfortunately for you, I can sense heat, I knew you were there the whole time," I remarked smugly, stepping back and stretching my arms out as I deactivated Blaze Ignition: Supernova, my power receding significantly.

"<Is there any point to saying that after you killed it>?" Inquired Superbia wryly.

I mean, there’s no point in saying it either way, since these creatures, you know, don’t speak or understand English. I just thought it’d be cool, no harm in throwing out a little one liner, you know? Given your love for theatrics, I figured you of all people would get it.

"<Well, sure, but...what’s the point in theatrics if you don’t have an audience>?"

Okay, it’s really not that deep, just move past it already. Sheesh.
