Slayer: I Kill All Dragons For Power
Chapter 100: Battle At The Crossroads [1]The cannon fires from somewhere behind the western building.
I immediately look towards the sky to see that the round flies faster than I expected.
A faint glow trails behind it as it heads directly towards the first armored dragon.
The dragon turns its head.
Definitely too late to dodge that.
CRACK!!!!!
The round slams straight into the armor covering its side.
For half a second nothing happens.
Then—
BOOOOOM!!!!!
A massive burst of light explodes across the sky.
ROARRRRRR!!!!!
The dragon cries out as pieces of green armor scatter in every direction.
Its body shifts sideways and one of its wings folds inward. It tries to keep itself in the air.
FLAP! FLAP! FLAP!
The damage is already too much for the dragon to handle, it begins to fall.
One down. It may not be dead yet, but at least it is out of the sky.
I tighten my grip around my sword.
I can’t move yet. Onyx told us to wait so that’s exactly what I need to do.
The other four dragons immediately react.
Exactly like he predicted.
They split apart.
The flame dragon rises higher while the second armored dragon moves closer to the one that was hit.
All while the tracker turns completely away from the others.
Its head starts moving rapidly as it begins to search.
Then the unknown dragon moves further back.
"There," Laz whispers.
I glance towards the second cannon position.
The barrel slowly shifts as I realize they were waiting for the formation change.
BOOM!!!!!
Another round fires.
This one heads towards the flame dragon but the dragon notices and immediately its mouth opens.
Orange flames begin gathering around its teeth.
"Oh shit."
FWOOOOSH!!!!!
A massive stream of fire shoots towards the incoming round.
The two attacks collide in the sky.
BOOOOM!!!!!
An explosion lights up the entire crossroads and heat rushes past the buildings.
I duck slightly behind the wall.
Pieces of stone break away above us as the heat intensifies a bit more.
CRACK! CRACK!
"Stay down!" Laz warns.
I don’t need to be told twice.
The flames disappear after a few seconds.
I look back up to see the flame dragon is still flying.
The cannon round never reached it. It is expected after the way it just defended itself.
Then being able to counter it definitely changes things quite a bit. It makes this a lot harder to predict as well.
Onyx raises his hand again from his position.
Nobody moves.
He really is smart. I need to learn from him more.
The damaged armored dragon finally crashes into one of the ruined buildings.
Rumble!!!! CRASH!!!!
The entire structure collapses around it and dust immediately erupts into the air.
One dragon grounded, four still flying. We just need to get the other four grounded and we’ll be in good shape. I’m sure Onyx has a plan for how to catch them off guard or to get them grounded.
The second armored dragon lets out a roar while the others immediately move.
"They’re communicating," I whisper.
"Yeah," Laz answers.
The tracker lowers itself closer to the crossroads.
Its head continues moving from side to side.
I can see its nose twitching.
This tracker dragon is definitely quite unique. I’ve never seen one before... So this is definitely something to keep note of for the future. I just need to know how he is tracking us right now or what’s the indicator to figure it out.
Or—
It suddenly stops and my mind goes blank.
Its head turns directly towards the building we’re hiding behind.
That fear I felt earlier is back.
"Laz."
"I see it."
Sylvia grips her sword tighter beside me.
The tracker doesn’t move as its eyes remain locked on the wall.
This is not something I would’ve expected to be feeling right now. Come on Kain get it together.
The dragon slowly moves closer.
Onyx still hasn’t given the signal.
Why isn’t he—
The tracker opens its mouth and no flames seem to gather around it, instead it lets out a strange clicking sound.
CLICK! CLICK! CLICK!
The noise travels through the ruins.
I feel it in my chest.
"What the hell is that?" I whisper.
Laz’s expression changes.
"Heartbeat tracker."
A heartbeat tracker? That sounds like the worst possible one we could have gotten for the position we are in.
CLICK! CLICK!
The dragon’s eyes narrow.
Yeah... It definitely knows.
"Everyone move!" Onyx shouts.
Staying hidden was never going to be an option the moment they knew a tracker was mentioned. But nobody thought to say that to me?
The tracker dives.
"GO!"
I jump to my feet.
Everyone around us immediately starts moving.
The dragon comes straight towards our position.
Its claws extend.
I almost rush forward but I remember that I can’t just rush like last time.
Instead I look towards Laz and Sylvia.
Everyone is moving together, just follow the plan.
"Left!" Laz shouts.
We all move in the same direction.
CRASH!!!!!
The tracker slams through the broken wall behind us and sends stone flying everywhere.
I cover my face with my arm while continuing forward.
One of the other slayers stumbles, but I manage to grab the back of his armor before he falls.
"Keep moving!"
"Thanks!"
We rush into the narrow street Onyx pointed out earlier.
Wait, this is exactly where we are supposed to be.
The tracker pulls itself from the ruins behind us.
ROARRRRR!!!!!
"What now?" I ask.
"Ground it!" Laz responds.
Right, we aren’t supposed to be fighting them in the air.
A third cannon suddenly fires.
BOOM!!!!!
The tracker immediately turns as the round hits its shoulder.
BOOOOM!!!!!
Blood and scales explode from the impact.
I watch as the dragon spins through the air and crashes down into the road.
THUD!!!!!
"Now!" Onyx shouts.
That’s our signal.
DASH!!!!
This time I do rush, not because I’m doing it alone, but because everyone else is also doing the same thing. We are attacking together.
Sylvia is on my right, Laz is slightly aheah, and the other four slayers are spread out.
The tracker tries to stand.
One of its wings is hanging strangely from the cannon blast.
This is perfect.
I move into the Valtor Stance.
Don’t make any rushed moves, take your time and read it.
The dragon’s eyes dart between all of us, it doesn’t know who to attack first.
That is the biggest advantage we have against it right now. It isn’t just fighting one slayer.
It is fighting seven.
