Slayer: I Kill All Dragons For Power

Laz attacks first.

CLANG!!!!!

His sword bounces off the scales near its front leg, then Sylvia comes from the opposite side.

SLASH!!!

Her blade leaves a cut behind the dragon’s knee and immediately the tracker roars and swings its tail.

I can see it coming.

Last time I tried to save Laz by taking the attack.

Not again.

"Laz, down!"

He immediately ducks while I jump backwards.

SWOOSH!!!!!

The tail passes over both of us.

No one gets hit.

I just needed to have more faith in them. Assuming they wouldn’t be able to dodge an attack just makes me sound like a terrible slayer in all honesty.

That attack probably would’ve taken my head off.

The dragon turns towards her and Laz follows from the other side.

They are forcing it to keep changing targets.

I finally understand what Laz meant.

Teamwork really does make a huge difference.

I don’t have to do everything.

Another roar comes from above and I glance upward.

The flame dragon is diving towards us.

"Above!" I shout.

Everyone separates.

FWOOOOOSH!!!!!

Fire explodes across the road and I quickly dive behind what remains of a stone wall.

Heat rushes past me.

The entire area lights up orange.

One of the slayers screams.

I look over.

His cloak is on fire.

He drops and rolls across the dirt while another slayer helps put it out.

The tracker uses the distraction to rise.

"Don’t let it get back up!" Laz shouts.

I look towards Onyx.

He gestures forward.

Permission.

Good enough for me. I’m finally getting the go ahead, that’s exactly what I need.

I move.

DASH!!!!

Sylvia follows.

The tracker pushes itself onto all four legs and I attack the wounded shoulder again.

CLANG!!!!

This time my blade hits bone beneath the broken scales.

The impact shakes through my arms as the dragon snaps its head towards me.

Its mouth opens.

I can see lots of teeth so I pull back immediately.

CHOMP!!!!

Its jaws close inches away.

That was definitely a close call. I don’t want to get caught up in that jaw.

Sylvia’s sword cuts across the side of its face.

SLASH!!!!

The dragon recoils.

"Move Kain!"

I don’t question her.

I move.

A spear flies past my shoulder.

PIERCE!!!!!

It enters the tracker through the wound I created.

And its entire body jolts.

One of the slayers behind us is holding another spear.

So that’s what the emergency weapons can do.

The tracker stumbles as its front leg gives out.

Laz takes the opportunity and he rushes forward and drives his sword into the underside of its neck.

PIERCE!!!!

Green blood bursts out.

The dragon thrashes.

"BACK!" Onyx shouts.

Everyone retreats immediately.

I do too.

The tracker collapses onto its side.

It is still moving.

That was fast... Not easy by any means, but I’m learning.

Seven people attacking together completely changed the fight.

I can only imagine how the fight would have went if I attacked the dragon by myself. It isn’t something I’d want to do with my current strength.

Fighting together is also a huge deal. It was definitely needed.

I look towards the other grounded armored dragon.

Several slayers are already surrounding it.

The battle is spread across the entire crossroads now.

Cannons fire, dragons roar, and magic explodes.

Slayers shout commands.

This is completely different from anything I’ve experienced before.

And somehow I can still follow what is happening.

Mostly.

I look up.

The flame dragon circles overhead.

The second armored dragon is still in the sky.

Where is the unknown dragon at? That is something I completely forgot about... Where the hell is it?

My eyes dart around.

I don’t see it.

"Laz!"

"The fifth dragon!"

He looks up.

His expression changes.

"Shit."

We both scan the sky.

Nothing.

The armored dragon, flame dragon, and that’s it.

The fifth one is gone.

Did it retreat?

No, surely it wouldn’t just retreat. Onyx also said we can’t chase them if they do decide to retreat.

But I don’t remember seeing it leave.

The tracker suddenly lets out another clicking sound.

It is definitely a lot weaker this time. We are definitely making quite a bit of progress against it. We just need to finish off the tracker.

For the first time since we got here, his expression changes completely.

"Protect the cannons!"

A strange sound moves through the ruins.

SCRAPE.

SCRAPE.

I stare towards one of the destroyed buildings.

Something shifts inside.

Stone slowly slides away.

I tighten my grip around my sword.

So the fifth dragon didn’t retreat.

It got behind us.

A pair of glowing eyes opens inside the darkness.
