Slayer: I Kill All Dragons For Power
Chapter 102: Battle At The Crossroads [3]Its scales are almost completely black with a few grey sections running along its body. It isn’t as large as the armored dragons but something about it immediately makes me uneasy.
The dragon takes another step.
Nothing... not even its claws scraping against the stone.
How the hell does something that large move without making any noise?
I didn’t think dragons like this existed... Not to this extent.
"Don’t let it reach the cannons!" Onyx shouts.
Shit that is enough for me. We can’t lose our weapons against them.
I glance towards the tracker.
It is still barely alive.
Normally I’d want to finish it, but there’s no time for that right now. The cannons matter more.
"Come on!" Laz shouts.
He starts moving and Sylvia immediately follows.
I stay close behind them.
This is exactly what Onyx was talking about before. Keeping my focus on what is important.
~You are learning. This is amazing progress Kain.
I’d rather not get thrown across another battlefield before learning something.
The unknown dragon turns its head towards us and its eyes are a strange pale grey.
No roar or growl, just silence as it watches us.
Several slayers near the cannons begin moving backwards.
One of them grabs the controls and tries to turn the weapon towards the dragon.
It is too slow though.
The dragon disappears behind one of the broken walls.
"What the hell?" Laz asks.
"Keep watching!"
I slow myself down.
Charging around the corner would be stupid.
Especially against something that apparently doesn’t make noise.
Sylvia moves closer to the opposite side of the building.
"I’ll take right," Sylvia says with a serious tone.
"Laz, left."
He nods.
I’ll stay through the middle. This way we will have the best possible chance of pulling this attack off.
We separate slightly and my grip tightens around my sword.
No sound whatsoever... I can’t even tell where it went.
The battlefield behind us is still loud.
BOOM!!!!
ROARRRR!!!!
CLANG!!!!
But somehow everything near this dragon feels quieter, almost like the noise isn’t reaching us properly.
Wait...
It isn’t just the dragon.
"Laz!"
He looks towards me.
"Something is wrong with the sound!"
"What?"
He can barely hear me.
That is definitely enough to confirm that something is off with the way sound seems to be traveling around this dragon.
Movement flashes above me.
I don’t hear anything but my eyes move up.
There!
"DOWN!"
I throw myself sideways.
Sylvia and Laz react immediately.
CRASH!!!!!
The dragon drops directly into the area where we were standing.
Stone explodes beneath its claws.
Still not a single sound can be heard, even though it just tore up the stone around us.
I was able to feel the ground shaking but it was silent.
This is insane.
The dragon swings one claw towards Laz.
He blocks.
CLANG!!!!
The impact sends him sliding backwards.
At least I can hear that.
I didn’t think I’d be able to hear that but it tells me a bit more about this dragon.
I rush forward but stop myself before getting too close.
Caution is going to be the best thing I can utilize in this battle.
The dragon turns towards me.
Its body shifts and its tail is moving.
I’m going to have to rely completely on what I see. This will be quite the interesting fight.
It lunges.
I move right.
SWOOSH!
The claws miss my chest and I bring my sword around immediately.
CLANG!!!!
The blade bounces off its shoulder.
Strong scales but it isn’t armored. Just stronger scales than the normal dragon.
Sylvia attacks from behind.
SLASH!!!!
Her sword leaves a shallow cut along its back.
The dragon spins towards her.
I almost rush it again.
No, I can’t yet. Holding myself back until the right moment is the smartest thing to do.
Laz comes from the other side, forcing the dragon to decide what it’ll do.
Exactly what we did with the tracker.
It turns towards Laz.
That gives Sylvia enough time to move away and I attack the same wound she created.
SLASH!!!!
Green blood appears, not a lot but it is enough to tell me I finally got some damage done on it.
The dragon finally opens its mouth.
I prepare for flames but nothing comes out.
Instead everything around us goes completely silent.
Purely silent.
I can’t hear my own breathing, my heartbeat, or Sylvia.
What the hell?! Why is there a damn dragon capable of doing this in the first place....
Sylvia’s mouth moves but nothing comes through.
Laz points behind me, then I turn almost immediately.
The dragon’s tail is already coming.
I duck as the tail passes over my head.
This is going to be difficult. I’m really going to need to focus on its attacks.
I look towards Sylvia.
She holds up two fingers and points towards the dragon.
Then towards Laz.
I don’t really understand what she wants.
She points towards herself.
Then right.
Laz points left.
Alright I understand now. They are splitting up and I’ll take the middle once again since that’s what I did before.
I point towards the middle.
Sylvia nods and then we begin to move.
The dragon watches all three of us.
I stay slightly further back.
Sylvia attacks first and the dragon moves to block her, but that gives Laz the perfect opportunity to come from the other side.
It swings a claw towards him, yet he manages to back away in time.
This is the opportunity. Now.
DASH!!!!
I move straight through the middle.
The dragon sees me and I notice its eyes widen slightly.
I bring my sword low.
It shifts to protect the wound along its back.
It is falling for my trick.
Instead I stop and quickly change direction.
My blade moves towards the front leg.
SLASH!!!!!
Green blood sprays out as I cut across the thinner scales near the joint.
The dragon drops slightly and I immediately move away.
No staying close.
Its jaws snap through the space I just left.
Still no sound.
