A couple of hours pass before I realize how far I’ve traveled. The woods around me are a lot nicer than the last forest I went through.
The leaves are a mix of red and yellow with some scattered across the path in front of me.
Step. Step.
Crunch.
Honestly the only downside to this beautiful forest is the leaves being loud underneath my feet. This also means I’ll have to be a lot more cautious if I want to hunt this dragon.
It isn’t going to be easy either... I’m going in blind again.
~This will help give you more experience! At least you’ll have a better understanding.
I have no complaints about learning more and getting the experience, just it would’ve helped to get a description or something.
~Not everything is going to be handed to you Kain.
Yeah, I don’t want it that way. I just need a way to begin this again.
I crouch down after that to look for any potential tracks or damage that might give me a way to find the dragon. But the ground itself is pretty normal with no real damage or scratches around.
It almost feels as if no dragons have even come through here yet.
~They won’t always give you signs. Look harder.
I don’t say anything as I continue to wander through the forest in search of tracks.
The wind blows past me, but yet the sound of wings doesn’t exist. It feels like I’m completely alone out here.
Eventually I make it further into the forest and find a bunch of destroyed houses. All of them look fairly recent too, almost like the dragon just came here.
~I think you are finally getting close to the dragon.
Even though it looks recent, I doubt the dragon is close. They are probably just dealing with people who live on the outskirts of the kingdoms.
Kingdoms are probably a lot more guarded than the villages and people who live out in the woods.
~Of course. I’m having trouble understanding.
What do you mean?
~You stated something quite obvious so I couldn’t process it properly.
I shake my head.
~Apologies.
That’s my fault for stating the obvious. I’ll focus back on the hunt at hand here. It is a lot more important to find this damn dragon instead anyway.
Thinking about it too much will just put me in a bad spot.
With that last thought I stop moving.
I stand in front of one of the broken down houses; trying to see if there’s anything I can put together here.
Shuffle. Shuffle.
Footsteps immediately get my attention and I enter the house in front of me. There’s blood splatter everywhere with human body parts scattered about.
"Are you here to save them...?" A womans voice whispers into my ear.
Immediately I turn to see a woman standing there with long purple hair, bangs covering one of her eyes, and crimson red eyes. She is staring right into my eyes.
She also appears to be wearing a nice black dress with her chest a bit open for the eyes to see.
"Who are you?" I ask while keeping a calm tone.
"Just another person looking for the dragon," She answers as she turns around, her arms lingering down her back.
I don’t like the way this feels. Something about her is off and I can’t really place what it is. She might be a potential enemy.
~She doesn’t appear to be a dragon.
That much is obvious... Just I don’t think she has to be a dragon to be an enemy.
Humans can have lots of different enemies in this world. Some can be other humans, different monsters, or the dragons.
This definitely makes the hunt a bit more risky.
"I’m not trying to harm you. I can see the look in your eyes," She speaks with a soft tone as she glances over her shoulder.
"Then why sneak up on me?" I ask with confusion in my voice.
She steps back towards me again and gets pretty close to my face.
"I just thought you were a cute slayer. Not a lot of them come around," She answers with a smile on her face.
"How do you know if I’m a slayer or not?" I question with a serious tone.
~Your heartbeat has increased.
This isn’t the time to be worrying about an attractive woman in my face. I have more important priorities to focus on right now system.
~I’m just stating what I can detect. Your heartbeat has increased since she got close to your face.
"Slayers would be the ones brave enough to check out these scenes... Or maybe knights but I haven’t seen any out this far," She answers with a casual tone.
Flap! Flap! Flap!
Wings fly overhead before quickly disappearing in the distance.
I turn away from the girl and rush out the door.
That was a dragon. I need to figure out where the hell it is heading.... I don’t have time for whatever this interaction is right now. She can do whatever she wants.
Raven probably isn’t that far behind either.
"You going after that dragon?" She asks with curiosity in her voice.
"Yes. I’ll talk with you more later," I respond before running.
Leaves crunch beneath my feet as I run through the forest, trying to listen for the wings.
Flap! Flap!
Wait, that’s actually getting closer so I have to be going the right way. The dragon decided to show itself so this is exactly what I needed.
I use one of my feet to push off the ground for some extra speed, but as I reach directly underneath the dragon it suddenly disappears again.
It is almost like I was never chasing after the dragon in the first place.
~It appears to have vanished entirely.
You’re saying that like I didn’t already realize that. I’m assuming this dragon has good ways to hide itself or maybe some sort of crazy speed.
That’s my only guess.
"Darn. It seems you lost it," The girl says as she appears behind me.
Who the hell is this girl?
